THREE FORMER West Indies wicketkeepers, Jackie Hendricks, Deryck Murray and Jeff Dujon, have questioned the decision by selectors not to include Denesh Ramdin for the forthcoming Test series against India.

Dujon, who represented West Indies between 1981 and 1991, says Ramdin’s experience will be needed against India despite an unimpressive batting average.

“While I can vaguely understand the explanations by selectors regarding his average, especially when comparing it to other keepers around the world, but in the current context of the West Indies team, his exclusion, at this time, doesn’t make sense,” Dujon told Cricbuzz.

“Considering how experienced an opposition India is, his experience and his value as a good player versus spin are still key.” Ramdin averages 25 from 74 Tests with four hundreds, the last coming two-and-a-half years ago against New Zealand in Hamilton.

The former Windies skipper has struggled with the bat in his last 11 Tests over a 12-month period, averaging just 22 but showed signs of form in his last two innings on the tour of Australia, scoring 59 in Melbourne last December and 62 in Sydney last January.

I have to agree with them. I see no one as a better glove man than Ramdin, and certainly no better batsman.

Ramdin best usage as a catcher is when Narine is pitching.

Otherwise Dowrich can keep.

I will shed no tears for Rammo, but his exclusion makes no sense when you contextualize it to the fact that these same selectors had him batting at #5 in odis.

I'm happy for Dowrich, he is a good prospect

My take as I have stated elsewhere in the Rum Shop , is that Budgetary considerations if Ramdin is not selected will be a primary motive for
his non selection .

In reply to Wally-1I have always said ramdin's continuous selection in WI team is not base on how good he is but what the alternative are, they are still much worst on-till there is some one better the selectors should tap in to his experience,Brown is the new chairman of selectors wants to make his presences felt,its all power struggle once their ignorance is on display west indies cricket can go to hell,very sad

Ramdin drop cant be because of cricket.

His keeping is competent or better and his batting compares to our best keepers over time. In times like now when our batting is so poor, even more reason for him not being dropped.

This drop has to do with Ramdin the person and friction with the WICB, as many here have pointed to.

As for the best glove man theory put up by these legends. Its just another cricket "truism" doesn't hold water when one looks at the history of the game.

All playing nations have picked the best Wicket keeper batsmen they have. The playing history of Hendricks, Murray and Dujon bear fruit to that fact.

Clearly shows that WI not interested in winning the series .
It shows the dark side of sports.

WICB just want their paltry check and with India's TV rights back home they will be making a lot of money.
Meanwhile WICB will be paying off their 42 mill owed to India.

The players are just pawns.
Look at the venues.

Are the WICB really interested in the diaspora seeing their brethren from India?
Heck no.
Browne maybe does not know a Gujrati from a Punjabi.

If by theory Ramdin as a keeper/batsman is being omitted for his batting average, then the primary batsmen should be omitted as well! This is one of the weakest WI team in history where Ramdin performances is averaged for this team.

Selectors you all are the pros making the decisions, so how and why you all screw up every time by not understanding the opposing team's strength and weaknesses, conditions of wicket and environment being played and whom and what you have that would compete against the opposing team?

India is a strong batting team and you have only four bowlers, this is a lot of pressure on these bowlers especially Gabriel and Cummings and Bishoo.
Also India is a strong spin bowling team with supportive wickets, how many of our batsmen can hold their end with such attack?

The eleven from the thirteen would be a tough one that would be very interesting to see how they perform in a FIVE or may be 3.5 days!!!

Dow rich is not a good keeper! Because a man dives about doesn't make him a good keeper. It says a lot about his positioning or late sighting.

As to batting he seems ok but will disappoint you yet again concerning your inability to truly spot talent.

They should play Ramdin until he drop...on the pitch, then and only then, they should groom another Wicketkeeper.
