HEADLINE: PM Mitchell quits sub-committee

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada (CMC) — Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell said he has resigned as Chairman of Caricom’s sub-committee on cricket governance because he was angered by the behaviour of “a couple of our leaders in the region”.

Prime Minister Mitchell did not call out the names of his regional counterparts, but accused them of undermining Caricom’s position by making “divisive” public statements after agreements would have been reached at the heads of government level.

In an interview with Grenada sports, Prime Minister Mitchell said he has suggested Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St Vincent and the Grenadines take up the role.

“I gave it up because I felt angered by the behaviour of a couple of our leaders in the region and the way they behaved when we took a decision, and I felt that they undermined the authority of the chairman of the sub-committee at the time and, therefore, I did not feel I could continue in that position,” the Grenadian leader explained.

We have to speak with one voice. The problem is when you have some of us going in different directions, especially when we make decisions at Caricom level and then one or two of us go off on our own and making opposite statements and claiming that we are not part of the decision,” Prime Minister Mitchell pointed out

Lawd...this is funny. lol lol

This has nothing to do with Dave or WICB. It is all about CARICOM.

A few of us have been trying to tell you folks how all this will turn out. But no. A whole bunch of you keep screaming for CARICOM.

You have to follow the dealings of CARICOM to know how it works. Anybody who knows about CARICOM...and Keith Mitchell and Gaston Browne and Ralph...and all these characters---would know exactly how this whole thing would have turned out.

Said it long ago too, if Caricom can't even govern itself how can you expect it to take any action against WICB?

I told Courtesy that CARICOM was not unanimous and that there were cracks.

Somebody mentioned Rowley but he like Freundel has more pressing issues that WI Cricket.

Seemingly Mitchell and Gonsalves don't have economic and social issues to tackle so they focusing on cricket.

No! PM Mitchell you cannot quit now for apart from Ralph the other PM's in the region are not serious about WI cricket only the occasional lip-service. The young JA PM has his hands full with more serious issues no time for cricket; Guyana just found oil so their Leader making big economic plans; T&T PM would really like to spend more time on cricket issues but like JA his hands are full now; B'dos PM figure that since all the captains are from B'dos do why bother to interfere; Antiguan PM is more concerned about LIAT right now; and all other PM's just want their quota players on the respective teams. WI cricket is in even more trouble than we envisioned but let us all still rally around the players!
