HEADLINE: WICB cancels Bravo's match contract, serves him notice

CaribbeanCricket.com Nov 15, 2016, 2:05:21 AM

The West Indies Cricket Board has sent a notice to Darren Bravo saying the batsman's match contract has been cancelled due to the "disparaging" remarks he made on Twitter about board president Dave Cameron earlier in the week. In an e-mail sent to Bravo on Friday, Richard Pybus, WICB's director of cricket, warned that if the batsman did not delete the tweet and apologise by Saturday afternoon, he could face further action from the board's disciplinary panel.

While Bravo has not made any comment in public, it is learnt he has not yet responded to the WICB. On Saturday, the WICB had replaced Bravo in the squad for the Zimbabwe tri-series for "inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour", which breached contractual obligations. While the cancellation of his match contract applies to the Zimbabwe series for now, it could include future tours. Bravo is currently without a retainer after he declined a central contract offered by the WICB for the 2016-17 period in November.

Bravo will be back, albeit it may take a movement by the Regional leaders akin to that afforded the discarded star, Chris Gayle, when Don Hilaire was busy earning his reputation.

Raggs Nov 15, 2016, 3:14:31 AM

If he comes back or not. Watch his test average go south from now. No more kissing of the badge.Or great celebrations at the fall of a wicket. This crap should have never got so far.

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com I have said before that Bravo is a jackass. But I was referring to his emotional intelligence or lack thereof. He is however a gifted young batsman who cannot justifiably be given a C class contract, when other less talented individuals are being given "A" and "B" contracts. This was a serious provocation that led Bravo to understandably reject the retainer contract offered.

But Cameron being Cameron (and if Bravo is a jackass, I struggle to find printable words to appropriately describe this piece of work) predictably pushed the boy over the edge with his nonsense defense of the "C" ranking.

If our cricket is to rise again we have to learn to work with talented, albeit silly and self-absorbed people like Bravo, to direct their focus to the team objective and make them better men for it. We DO NOT need to work with the Camerons of this world. This man must go. West Indies cricket should not have to survive another full term of the divisive Mr. Cameron again.

Just saw the below post from Dukes on another thread that far more artfully makes the point than I could:

when you are President of a cricket board, it is unseemly to publically criticize the only batsman in your team who averages 40 in test cricket.
It is even more ridiculous to attempt to justify offering him a C contract that was also given to rank newcomers to test cricket as opposed to Bravo with 8 test centuries and over 3000 test runs. That sort of blatant disrespect and discrimination usually causes twentysomething immature men to say and do unfortunate things and when the end result is the interruption of a test career it is GROSS MALPRACTICE and POOR ADMINISTRATION.
It is INIMICAL to the interests of West Indies cricket and should be followed by his RESIGNATION.

This was so very well put Sir.

This is what i keep trying to get people to understand on here.

Pro athletes are entertainers, a lot of them are as you say "silly", for lack of a better word, and self-absorbed.

Part of the package that comes with their gift it would seem

And you HAVE to learn to cater to/ facilitate them in order to reap the rewards, WE DO NOT NEED CAMERON!!

I cannot understand how people are losing focus of the CRICKET!! Is Cricket we playing!!

If you have to choose between wayward player..adn wayward administrator..the choice is clear!!

We not trrying to win a Board Meeting Championship!!

We trying to win cricket matches FFS!

I did not see him pull down the team in UAE rather saw him as a key player in the team trying to bring it up.

If you want to see someone who pulls the team down dont look beyond Dave and his coharts who do not have a clue about managing atheletes.

WICB is playing by the rules and the letter of contract that Bravo signed.

No problems for me here. He is not banned for life so there is still time for him to reflect and come again.... hope stronger!!!

Well said mate. I had said this during the famous WI victory against Australia in the Champions trophy semi / quarter final when Gayle took it to Michael clarke.

I could see the same passion expressed by many of our effervescent players whose energy, unfortunately, is being spent in fighting the system which is not conducive in guiding the young men to success. If the WICB supports the talent, passion and athletisism of our players they can do a lot better than they do now.

WICB as an organisation is incapable of helping players focus on their game.

WICB would care less If he does not come back stronger or does not come back at all. For them the money through the TV revenues keep coming and they have an U19 team to put on the field. What is lost

This is the kind of thinking rampant in the WICB.

The only batsman averaging over 40, dragging down the team..by disrescpecting an inconsequential and easily replaceable paper pusher.

What exactly has Cameron accomplished?

Is this a cricket team or a respect team?

GTFOH with u dumb shite
