In an interesting development coming to hand is that the owners of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is allegedly looking for the buyer for the tournament.

With the league expected to get underway in the first week of August, Guardian Media understands that talks are in progress with a potential buyer from India but nothing is concrete just yet. CPL has been pumping money into the product since the inception in 2014 and is yet to turn around a profit.

What they have done though is create a product that is now a viable one and a sale at this point in time could fetch them a handsome amount, to offset the funds they would have pumped into the league.
Only last year, all six teams were picked up by owners and prior to this CPL had to bankroll the teams that had no owners. This cost a handsome amount and with regional governments not coming on board as before because of the current economic climate in the Caribbean, the business model has been struggling.

this is interesting...but not turbulent, CPL at this stage is prime for take over with the six franchises having owners and not needing any subsidies, the operational cost will be reduced, the travel between Islands remains an issue, but i believe bringing LIAT on board could prove beneficial in the long term. The expansion into the US, where a huge Sub Continent and Caribbean diaspora exists would also be in its favor, I expect the Indian interest to be keen on this product as they look for an "IPL" away from India,
PROs----the buy out could bring some much needed investment and TV audiences to the West Indian product
CONs----most games may be played during the day to facilitate Sub Continent prime time viewing

Yeah most likely to them, seeing they almost indirectly funding this thing.
So it's a good step to reduce the 'Red" on their books.

Want to also add that selling of a sports league is a good investment. Hoping the potential Indian buyer doesn't try to change the league into something matching the IL. Let it still be what it is. Look the amount of American and Asian owners in the BPL, still the league stays true to it's English roots. Though I'm hearing of some complains of how "corporatey" some teams have become. Still though it's an exciting league to look at, folks making money, TV revenue keeps growing, football top notch and it's providing good monies for the economy. Something that's badly needed here. The investment in the youth factor must continue, in 2 years a lot of the older stars would have retired or be a fraction of their younger self, so once who ever takes over realises the importance of youth academies then I'll be cool.

I don't see much changes to the structure, I don't even see the availability of Indian players for the League as the BCCI will continue to limit their player to the IPL only, a concept we should consider where our contracted players are limited to 2 T20 leagues per year, the CPL must be one of them but I digress. I see it remaining a Caribbean league owned by Indian Interest

Causer they are buying a Caribbean product and the best thing is to leave it as is
Come in for the financial benefit that you can add and get, pump the money into the local economies, grow the league and that's it.
It would be nice to limit the number of T20's player can play but i think only contracted players could possibly be held to this.

The only reason an Indian will buy is because he expects to have Indian players involved so that he can have a shot at the huge tv audience in India. That is where the money is. You think he cares about the WI fans and their small change?

The matches will start very early like 9 o' clock to coincide with prime time in India. But is suh we like it....

I hear the English is restructuring their T20 competition to replicate the bigbash and will be played the same time as the CPL. If that happens and they offer more money, the CPL can suffer from quallity players etc.

Well that goes back to what i spoke about early, when i said what changes will come with new ownership
Thing still though will the BCCI allow its players to play outside of the IPL?
And something dont' think you realise, our players the WI players are a huge draw to T20 fans worldwide so having them is highly valuable for the lauge so to me it's not dependent on the fact of getting Indian players. As it is now the numbers are growing without them. yes having them would be even better, but think about this, what effect of having Indian players in the CPL have on the IPL?
See we always look at it as the other way around, time we start to value our own.

For sure Contracted players only, this is to ensure their availability to represent The West Indies when required, non contracted players should remain free to earn a living where ever they can.
