Clive lloyd arrives by helecopter at Bourda

The order came directly from the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana: ‘Be on the tarmac at Timehri when the BWIA plane arrives from Trinidad. Guyana needs Lloyd at Bourda.’ It’s not difficult to imagine President Burnham issuing such a directive since his personal intervention in bringing Lloyd home in 1973 when the WICBC had not selected him for the home series against the Australians, had led to him regaining a place in the West Indies side.

Major Larry London of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) had been sitting patiently for about half an hour in the single crew seat of the GDF’s Bell 212 civilian helicopter, when the BWIA flight from Trinidad finally arrived. Lloyd, cricket gear in hand rushed down the steps from the plane and was ushered across the tarmac to the helicopter. He had barely gotten in and Major London was seeking clearance from the control tower.

West Indian Captain Clive Lloyd’s arrival was greeted with thunderous applause. He had still had to change his shoes and adjust his thigh pad at the wicket, before he was ready to commence battle. At the other end his captain, Kalli, was holding the fort, playing with restraint and caution. Lloyd wasted no time in taking the attack to the bowlers, straight driving Jumadeen for four, and later on for a lofty six.

The two left-handers soon imposed their will on the inning as the pendulum swung in Guyana’s favour. By the close Guyana had recovered to 275 for 6, with Kalli on 128 and Lloyd on 71. Their unbroken partnership had produced 163 in just under three hours.

But My Brother, truth be told, I would be embarrassed to tout this as victory off sorts, TT is fielding a club team- their top 17 cricketers- save Ramdin and Khan are not playing

Jamaica and Barbados are also not fielding their top teams for various reasons. Guyana stands alone on having their best players throughout the tourney.

But, you are right, despite TT fielding its C team, given it resources they should be doing much better and for that we are going to destroy the TTCBB and all the Bossrats that are running dong our sport.

Congrats to Guyana though lol lol

Did Guyana really need to run up the score like that??? Poor sportsmanship. A lead of 300 would've been more than enough!

As long as you give yourself enough time to bowl the opposition out then bat for as long as you can/want.

Well that feels like when I played cricket in the road in TT playing against 11 year olds and me 15,
they used to beg me to give up.I hope that parallel gives Runs an idea. You called TT a C team,it must be lower than that. The thing is,when you play TT it is nice for all Caribbean opposition to win, give them a feeling of superiority for a short while.
lol lol lol

That's unfair to say no one gave Guyana credit,I for has,the fact that you do have some young players, you do have some experience on the team. You have one of the best batsmen to ever come out of the Caribbean,Permaul,Reifer,Hetty and Johnson played test cricket, you all were calling for Bramble to play for the Windies, maybe he could, bear in mind, there's no reason to have a carnival because yuh beating up TT.

Emir 2018-01-20 10:44:41

In reply to anthonyp

I did not say they were old, and I am glad they are talented. BTW, you left off Shiv from your list??

Also, in comparison to the other teams, Guyana's talented players and not younger.

In reply to Runs

What excuses brother wink

I have been slammin the TTCBC here since the season started.

We are happy Guyana played their total full strength team but it is ironic in a way: They are able to play their full strength team because their very best players are not good enough to make the WI team and foreign franchises-

think about it. big grin

The lead post is about the current playing XI putting ah beat down on T&T..

Shiv in d playing XI?

Btw he's not even in the squad for this final round..

According to Emir the team not so young.. yet 7 of the guys below 25.. and playing their first season and performing

Runs 2018-01-20 12:55:00

In reply to granite

What does that say for the make up of the WI team? Non performers lol

Emir 2018-01-20 15:00:51

In reply to anthonyp

What don't you understand? Shiv is in the squad as Granite pointed out, the context is about this season and not only this match.

Don't get us wrong, GT did well after all, they can only play the opposition given, but they are not a younger team than the others as you stated.

Please don't miss the other points Granite and I made about the relative strength of Guyana versus the other B and C teams

Our cricket is so shit, champions get hit for virtually 300in little less than a day's play, and that beat up came from the weakest team in the Caribbean.TT only just got Mohammed and he needs 8 more for a great 100.You can't blame me for thinking,if we had the rest, how good we could have been.

Runs 2018-01-20 17:10:06

Them Trikees makin all sorta excuses is 4 yrs now them champeeons not playing hence Guyana winning. lol

granite 2018-01-20 18:43:33

In reply to Runs

Please get this mate,I haven't seen any post that shows Trinidadians showing any jealousy to your triumph. No one presumed that TT would have won,if in fact we had all our players,we surely would have done better,as seen with Mohammed's inclusion,so it is safe to assume, with the rest we might have done better. As we are at the moment,we can't even beat ah bobolee and we all know that.As I see it,TT did dish it out today in a style, that got the Champions by surprise, who knows,if Lewis was there it could have been 400 in less than a day's play. lol lol lol

Norm 2018-01-20 20:31:13

In reply to granite

None of the missing Trinis, except Lil B, want to play for Red Force. Even so, the TTCB is doing its best to screw Lil B. In any case, only Lil B and Sunil could have made some difference.

For all practical purposes, ALL the missing T&T players except Lil B have retired from first class cricket.

Some of the Red Force players, like Webster and St Clair, seem capable but the team seems to lack the focus and determination that this young Jaguars team has. I imagine that the young Red Force players are distracted by the prospect of playing in lucrative T20 leagues, like their missing countrymen.

I think the Jaguars approach - carefully blend youth and experience - is the way forward for all territorial and regional teams. Of course, many would miss that point, and would prefer to portray the Jaguars' continuing success as an accident resulting from the imaginary missing "good" players from other territories!

I expected the big-headed Bajans to whine about missing "Test" (hahaha!) players, but not the Trinis.

Anyway, better luck next season!

granite 2018-01-21 07:16:04

In reply to Norm
The fact that they don't want to play,as you say,is not the point,we have lost first choice players and that's difficult to replace. Now let me say,I am the first to acknowledge the culture of Guyanese and cricket,I will always believe that the better your cricket get ,the better will West Indian cricket become,Guyanese cricket is the best balanced in the Caribbean at the moment,Bajan cricket is close or on the same level with yours, but I feel your cricket has the edge.
What I find strange is how some posters are behaving by beating Trini team that is devoid of any talent,it's a team of nobodies, surely Guyanese posters are better and smarter than that.I can only suspect their pleasure is more than beating TT at cricket, but a derision pointed at the whole of Trinidad,it's no big deal beating TT,ask VOR and the Revo.

cool

Emir 2018-01-21 09:03:59

In reply to granite

Well said mate. The bigger picture is how this season has been of such a low standard and Guyana as the winners cannot simply sit back and say how good they are, somebody was going to win and tallest midget just happens to be Guyana

WI cricket is going backwards, just look at Trinidad, I cannot recall in all my life of following cricket, such as weak state, and I AM NOT only referring to the team, but mainly the administration and the entire fraternity.

That the administration could over the past few years chase away the top 15 players and literally banished them is mind boggling.

Two years ago, we could see it coming and I predicted that we will be fielding a C team, but it has come this season, earlier than I had even imagine.

For WI cricket to progress we need a strong and vibrant regional teams, in Trinidad case, they have done nothing.

Guyana is rebuilding and hopefully in a few years, these younger players will keep on improving.

We need all the territories on board.
