What will Ottis do when...

Devin 2018-01-27 10:08:03

ABD, DuPlessis, Amla, Morkel and Steyn are gone. Those five won't be around much longer.

Steyn will soon be gone, but the other four will be around for Gibson's tenure as coach.

This could be the team in 2020:

1) Elgar (32)
2) Markram (25)
3) Amla (36)
4) de Villiers (35)
5) du Plessis (35)
6) de Kock (27)
7) Philander (34)
cool Maharaj (29)
9) Rabada (24)
10) Morkel (35)
11) Ngidi (23)

Reserves
Phehlukwayo (23)
Bavuma (29)
de Bruyn (27)
Morris (32)
Olivier (27)

Amla, de Villiers & du Plessis are good enough to go on until they're 37-39, and when Morkel calls it a day there are quite a few pacers waiting in the wings.

Your concern is duly noted, but South Africa don't have to worry about the successors to that great batting trio until probably 2022-3, by which time other contenders will probably have come to the fore....

The crux of the batting is comprised of three guys in their mid 30's. Du Plessis is very much hot and cold. ABD recently took a break or retired, and was asked to return. Amla can't seem to make up his mind as to whether he wants to average 49 or 50.

Morkel and Philander are in their mid 30's as well.

Fast bowling talent may not be a concern, but batting is currently, and will be going forward.

Will be interesting to see who gets elected as captain after Faf retires. Some punters have put money on Markram being the next captain , but I'm not sure that will go down well with the ANC and their lapdogs at CSA.

"Some punters have put money on Markram being the next captain , but I'm not sure that will go down well with the ANC and their lapdogs at CSA."

The same Markram that the CSA has just appointed captain for the remaining ODIs?

Another conspiracy theory debunked....

I'm not bothered by the current ages of the Test players right now. They're good enough to play for another 2-3 years. Let's see where South Africa is with the young batsmen coming through the ranks between now and then.

South Africa still has a top class Test team. The ODI team is shite though....
