Volkswagen is dealing with another blow to its reputation. The car maker suspended a top executive amid a growing outcry over how much management knew about research that subjected monkeys and even humans to diesel fumes. That research—part of a long effort to pass off diesel engines as a safe alternative—was also funded by Daimler and BMW, who moved to distance themselves from the testing. VW’s admission in 2015 that it rigged millions of diesel cars to cheat on emissions tests has already cost it US$30 billion
