Someone probably spoke to him and told him he has to be more mature in his innings, as a WI player he needs to be more consistent at the local level or else he going to be a forgotten player by the Selectors.

Did you by chance see his dismissal.

Blackwood does not score quickly, he plays risky shots which creates the illusion that he's an aggressive player. His strike rate is never on the high side. The fact is, he's a blocker that swings the bat wildly ever so often. He doesn't work the ball around effectively yo minimize dot balls. He need to learn how to bay properly, I'm officially out of patience as he's played test cricket since 2014.

Just look at how Virat scores quickly and his boundary percentage is so low. He doesn't hit the ball in the air unless he's going for a 6

I was so disappointed with his effort, given the start we got from the openers. This is a problem I am noticing with WI ODI players, they play to preserve their spot on the team, without any consideration for the team's game position.

Many, many, many years ago I started a thread titled "Blackwood cannot bat." De Jumekans had their say on this thread.

........................

In de Leeds test West Indies needs two runs to win...a whole afternoon to get the two runs and Blackwood was out swinging wildly.

I say again...Blackwood cannot bat and further, he has sand in his head for a brain.

big grin

Khaga 2018-02-03 17:27:33

WI batsmen lack the ability to put it all together even if they have the ingredients.. I am not saying they have the ingredients..

Brother, I am viewing this 50 ova ting looking like cricket going on in the Caribbean...Barbados vs WWI. I watched a batsman who has been touted as a bondar bat...he was just planting his left foot outside leg stump to balls pitching way outside off and swinging merrily. That batsman happened to be Shamar Brooks.

And previous to this...I heard Tino Best say: "Brooks should be in our test squad."

LHM...

I say if this is what we have out there waiting in the wings then West Indies might as well call it a day.

Btw, "bondar bat" means very good batsman.

I think the argument was more so that he doesn't deserve to lose his spot more so than any other batsman based on performance. I dont rate him as a batsman but he was getting 50s and 40s regularly while the other highly touted batsmen weren't doing that so why does he deserve the drop...

All current West Indies batsmen with the exception of Shai Hope (for the moment) can be dropped.

Just Have a look at the test batting average of Blackwood and other so called bondar bats.

Chase has shown some potential in innings management, but seems to have regressed.

He has been exposed with the short ball. You cannot hide weaknesses in the international arena.

Could you imagine Kholi as a bondar Indian bat not being able to play the short ball?

If hope was someone else he would've and should've been dropped. Those 2 RECENT centuries really did wonders for that 33 average (imagine his avaerage without those...and that JUST happened). FYI he only has 3 50s. And for the record all their averages hover around the 30s including Blackwood's. Hence why I said if you want to drop Blackwood then anybody can be dropped too.

Khaga I agree with you on Chase

Blackwood at one time averaged 37 after over 20 tests.

Hope had an average of 5 after 4 tests or sumtin' like that.

Do you see where I am going with this?

Anyone with an eye for spotting batting potential would have persisted with Shai Hope.

Blackwood on the other hand, has been a persistent aerial lucky looper and on a downhill slide after his luck ran out.

But I suspect you are another Yardie.

and after 17 Hope averages 33...

My nationality has nothing to do with it, as I stated earlier I do not rate Blackwood as a batsman, he cant bat, he's lucky. Lucky to get in the test side based on that one season of consistent runs and he's lucky to still be there.

On the other hand Hope can bat but he too is lucky to still be there.

One is still there based on potential, the other is still there because he is not doing any worse than the lot Both are still there because the well is dry. If you disagree with that then I think I know where you're from smile

I am from Saint Lucia...

OK. Given a choice between those two lucky batsmen I would choose Shai Hope by a country mile...would you?

In reply to Courtesy Hmmm...very amusing for you, eh? JB needs some counsel. He has to focus & play the ball accordingly. Play measured shots.

Does Blackwood need someone to tell him the above after 27 tests matches...and as someone earning CWI social welfare money anually?
