BLM: Philadelphia Super Bowl Riots Reaction

‘Glaring Example of White Privilege’

In the aftermath of the chaos that erupted in Philadelphia as Eagles fans tore through the streets celebrating their Super Bowl victory, many could not help but notice the difference in how the public and officials reacted to riots by fans compared to those prompted by civil unrest.

"Somehow, it seems there's a line drawn in the sand where destruction of property because of a sports victory is OK and acceptable in America. However, if you have people who are fighting for their most basic human right, the right to live, they will be condemned," Black Lives Matter New York President Hawk Newsome told Newsweek.

Emergency responders struggled to keep up with rioters as they marched through Philadelphia streets leaving destruction in their wake. Revelers reportedly ripped down light posts, caused entire structures to collapse, and damaged vehicles and store buildings as they celebrated the Eagles' 41-33 victory.

But officials appeared slow to condemn the destruction caused by rioters, offering seemingly gentle requests for everyone to "go home."

Yeah, not really. Civil unrest can escalate quickly and when the authorities are the target it makes sense to nip it in the bud.

Sports related destruction is reliant on a totally different emotion. Euphoria. And it's not targeted at the authorities. Just because you sympathize with a movement does not mean you can turn a blind eye to reality.

You do realise that I didn't write the article, right?

Then why are you posting it? Do you want me to go find the author?

Even by your standards, it's a cop out. When you are posting, either you agree with the substance or you disagree or have an educated opinion, right?

Simples....

I really don't care for either of you coming to my defense?

Hate is hate, regardless of the reason! You can say I hate white folks because they have oppressed my people, and since oppression is wrong that makes me principled. It does not!

Once you start to excuse bad behavior regardless of the perceived validity of your reasons, you are just like those who hate you.

I marvel at those I see right here on this board who claim they are against this or that then display the exact same emotion for a different reason.

Like those who look down on others in the Caribbean because their Country is this that or the other, or they are not as educated or accomplished. But then turn around and claim how they hate Whites or Americans who display this same attitude towards them!

I guess the question then would be, what would the reaction of the civic authorities be if the largely black following of the 76'ers were to "euphorically" riot if the 76'ers won a national championship? Care to posit on that?

For the purpose of a discussion. Nothing more, nothing less.

PS: The link is there. You don't have to go very far if you need to find...

IMO it's not unlikely that the police would bust their heads- with great euphoria...

There has been disorder but to characterize it this way..Emergency responders struggled to keep up with rioters as they marched through Philadelphia streets leaving destruction in their wake iks going over the top.
It is not as if the rioting and disorder is or has over run the City. Far from it.
These so called riots are confined to one main area, around City Hall which separates North and South Broad Streets.
and only two or so store windows were blasted nearby..and a hotel awning was brought down when climbers got on it and dived off
parotting the flight of Eagles. A few were hurt and some arrested. They are and have not destroyed buildings.
The main destruction is uprooting poles for street lighting..too many though as there were no lights at City Hall for traffic
control.
There are scenes of at least one overturn car and two small flames and a guy riding atop police vehicle.

There is a tradition of climbing light posts in Philly to celebrate victories and the police have been proactive
in greasing poles at the City Hall and Northeast area where crowds also gather i n huge numbers.
Drunkenness is a large part of this., This time the Authorities changed to a 'better' greasing substance and
that did not deter the fools from climbing the poles..that part was funny to me as they climbed more than they did
for the win over Vikings.

From all estimates some 25000 were in the City Hall, Broad Street area Sunday night and a further 15-20000 at Frankfurt and
Cottman in the North East area.
I mention the numbers because the article referenced emergency vehicles and their obstruction.
This was definitely so at Broad and City Hall .No parking was allowed on Broad Street and the 100ft wide street
was packed with those people. In hindsight two of seven lanes, preferably in the center should have been occupied by
the Police who would have had a better handle on crowd control and access for vehicles.

The concern the authorities will have is Thursday, parade day. They have changed from Wednesday a bad weather day
and changed the route from City Hall going South to the Sports Stadium. This time they will leave
the Stadium area,up Broad Street around City Hall to the Parkway and end at Art Museum and Rocky Statue
where they have to construct a huge platform.
All schools have been given a day off and 2 million or more expected and planned for.

The City has been calm united and more friendly since Sunday night.
The storm will probably come
.
Along this 6-8 mile route will be 21 bars set up by Bud Light to give away free beers to over 21 year olds.

The aftermath could result in real riots that are being alluded in this piece of reporting.

If that happens, what will he report then ? Let's hope there will be no loss of life because there have been few if any
reported murders since the win and to put it factually, the crowd in the areas of ' riots' were mixed
and the in the case of City Hall Broad Street area, appeared majority black..but as usual the most foolhardy
actions are usually perpetrated by the other race.
Looting, large scale or otherwise is a trademark of riots especially in the lucrative area or the Center City
Stores. There have not been many reports of such.
In large part the people are in celebratory mode and want good order..but there are always the stupid and
their cousins, liquors so one can only hope that there will be a City come Friday.
