Broken tax system? La Liga football...

It is ridiculous the amount of tax cases being brought against players in Spain...Messi, Neymar, Sanchez...

Look, in the best of societies it hard to convince citizens of the need to pay tax. Now you want to do that to a transient professional who has to account for taxes in his home country too.

It is insane the amount of attempts to collect and the criminalizing of the avoidance mechanisms (which has an incestuous relationship with evasion).

In my opinion, Spain should embrace the philosophy that the monies earned help to grow the domestic economy and seek to tax the players indirectly.

Disincentivize tax evasion and avoidance and innovate ways to foster economic growth from sports....

I disagree.... pay your taxes at the going rate in the jurisdiction where you ply your trade. Same for the large corporations and close down the tax havens!

Despite the verdict, the Chilean will not spend time in prison as he is a first offender and the sentence is less than two years - which crucially, in Spanish law, prohibits jail time.

That's a shame!
