Andre McCarthy century to top Guyana

Slipfeeler 2018-02-09 10:48:10

Andre McCarthy is proving himself to selectors that he is one of our top ODI players, despite missing out on the recent WI ODI team selection. However, since some players will be leaving the playoffs to play T20, if he keeps up this performance consistently, he might be drafted into the team. With so many big bats around him, McCarthy fearlessly leads his team in batting average and at times has to carry the team. I am writing so as to encourage the big bats to start performing, although Rovman, Walton, Allen, Miller, all jumped into the fray yesterday.

This guy is on the wrong side of 30 to be making his debut.

He has played for the West Indies already??

natty_forever 2018-02-09 12:20:10

In reply to Dukes...oh, gotcha. However, if we had allowed more of our players to Debut much older we would not be in this predicament.

Rass. Age 30 is too old for batsmen. Times really changing.

We still haven't learnt any thing from the Shiv, he is well over 40 and still the best bats in the region.
We cannot ignore our talented young players for years although they perform in regionals year after year then when they reach 30, now they are too old to make the team, although this is not necessarily the situation of McCarthy. However, I always support the best players in the team regardless of age or island of origin.

How many successful batsmen from the West Indies made their debut after age 30?

Here is a FACT
36 West Indian batsmen have scored 2000 runs in test cricket while 20 players scored 2000 ODI runs. Not a single one made their test or ODI debut after age 30.

Based on those stats, McCarthy should do what is prudent and give way to a younger batsman who stands a better chance of moving himself and the West Indies forward.

If he doesn't see it fit to quit, the selectors should influence him.

Necessity is the mother of invention, think outside the box, paradigm shift, evolved, think differently, time for a change - We will do well if we remember those terms!

To grasp the telling effect of your "FACT" should we not know how many debuted at an age over 30? What is the sample size being offered by those over 30?

Your statistics speaks more to who have scored over 2000 runs in Test and ODIs than the failure of those who debuted over age 30.

I put out a fact. Now it is your turn to put out another fact to show that my fact is irrelevant.

See what your FACT is doing to WI cricket? We are now falling behind even minnows and an embarrassment to WI fans worldwide. Time for changes for we cannot continue to implement the same strategies which results in successive losses while hoping for new results without a new approach. That is an irrational thinking of only an idiot.
