Whose idea was it to have the Lions Tour coincide with...

voiceofreason 2018-02-10 18:35:19

...The Super50?

Now you have a lot of depleted squads. Would it not have been a better idea to have the Lions play in the Super 50 just like they did in the First class tournament a few years back?

Big Idiot again...

Just contradictory to CWI's statement that they want their best players available for the regional tournaments. Add to that how must the Sponsors feel when we have these watered down contests and competition?

Come-on VOr you are not new to west Indies cricket. That is statement is just to sideline a few player. That is not for everyone big grin

But International tours do coincide at times and that shows the bench strength of the teams that lost their key players.

By having this A team series, we are seeing, Cornwall is ready for the next level, and Powell should return to Baseball.
They must be a good youngster in the Leewards to partner Hodge.
What would be your dates for this series? I am sure you looked at the Lion's calendar for this year

They could have let the Lions play in the SUPER 50 instead of wasting money on two English county teams. It would have raised the standard of the Super50 too. So you have three English teams to host. Wow we got MONEY!

How would playing against regional teams, get the Lions players ready for International duties?
You really think India A, Australia or South Africa A teams, would play in our Regional competition?
Our cricket is too poor, to get A teams to compete in the regional competition.
We are attracting teams like Kenya, Scotland and Canada

You not making any sense. If the regional teams comprise of the same international players what exactly is your point? How do you expect to raise the regional standards if your best players are not available to play due to poor scheduling???

Just for the record the LIONS team has played in our regional tournament before.

Dude, Regional teams is not the West Indies A team, so why would the Lions want to play against individual teams.
The West Indies A team, consist of the next group of players, preparing for International duties

Just for the record the LIONS team has played in our regional tournament before.

That was then, H&H and now DD, sent most of the Stars packing, devalue the cricket, so be thankful for the two counties.

Which STARS? Bravo, Narine and Pollard? Stewpss!

You talking crap. Most teams started with their star players in particular Bim and Jamaica. We should have inissted that the English Lions play in our tournament or chose another time to tour. No wonder they cannot find long term sponsors because you got 2nd and 3rd string teams playing and you want this to attract sponsors and spectators? The Guyana vs Leewards game was packed why? A full compliment of stars especially Jimbo Cornwall and we had the most exciting game of the tournament with nearly 600 runs scored!

Apart from Narine, Gayle and Marlon, they were not another star player in any of the squads.
Kraigg, Jason and others are now finding their way at the International level, but they are so far away from being look at, as Stars.

This Lions team not interested in playing mainly one day cricket. The problem with the England team is test cricket not ODI cricket. This Lions side wanted a heavy focus on four day cricket.

Also the Lions dates were fixed and couldn't be moved.

In reply to mikesiva They could have played the super 50 then the test series.

The ECB were extremely inflexible, according to Adams in conversation with Bishop yesterday. They would not arrive until a week into the Super50. Which would mean that we would have to shift the Super50 from January 30 to a February 5 start instead, which would then mean that other teams would get even less use of their World Cup "stars". Also, the Lions would only play one week of one-day matches, after which they would expect to play three "Tests". Bearing in mind that the Super50 is three weeks long, that means that the teams would then be without their "Test" players for the final two weeks of the Super50.

There was one week between the ending of the PCL and the start of the Super50. So, there was not much time to play with. In addition, the ICC waited until the last minute to tell the WICB when the qualifiers would be played, after arrangements had been finalised for both the Super50 and the Lions tour.

Maybe it could be argued that the scheduling of our regional cricket is all wrong. I believe the Super50 should be played and finished in January. I also believe that the PCL should start in February, and run through to June, because it should run alongside our home domestic cricket, the way it does in England, where county cricket runs alongside home Tests. Who cares if the PCL clashes with the IPL...it's not like the IPL players play four-day cricket any more. In addition, that would ensure that our players remain in practice playing four-day cricket, and are ready for a call up to the Test team when Test matches are played at home to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in June and July.

After that, the CPL is played in August-September.

Any problems with that scheduling...because there are problems with the current domestic cricket schedule.

Shouldn’t this be an issue about WI cricket instead of EL? The CWI board has changed their name but NOTHING else! THEY ARE INCOMPETENT in taking Wi cricket to another level. As most of us have been saying “THEY NEED TO GO!!!
