Hope you both go on to get big scores.

Good recovery by WI... hope Dowrich gets his ton tomorrow... in recent times he has looked dire to be frank ... let’s hope that this has been a bad patch ( really bad ) that he has now come through.

Walco 2018-02-12 18:34:18

Good knock indeed. I was pleasantly surprised when I tuned back in and he was in the 50s. It took him 23 balls to trouble the scorers.

Dowrich can bat...it is his keeping that needs a revolution

TheTrail 2018-02-12 18:44:19

Wait, wait, no love for Warrican? Just last week people on this MB were saying: he should not be in the A team. What gives?

A 100+ partnership and counting... lol

analyst-kid 2018-02-12 18:45:51

Dowrich batting in the one days is what Barbados is missing this year....I am talking iro last year when he was in form. Him , Hope and Kraigg were the top three bats that propelled Barbados to 300 scores

mikelegend 2018-02-12 18:57:52

Dowridge has proven on quite a few occasions that he is a decent batsman. The major criticism of him, is his abysmal performance while keeping.

Oilah 2018-02-12 19:58:23

In reply to robbo

I think he is good enough to fight for a position as a batsman only but it would be hard. I can't see him continuing as the keeper without significant improvement.

tc1 2018-02-12 20:22:21

In reply to Oilah

Can he improve as a keeper, I remember one year we won the first and only Wes Hall cup(centuries ago) and Wes told us the Derrick Murray set the record for the most catches in the 63 tour to England, but he also set the record for the most drop catches.

I hope his keeping improve, he is a beauty to watch when in form.

Lets get real here and put things in perspective. Our number one Test keeper comes good against an A team squad, and we are all supposed to be doing cartwheels and sucking each others dciks. Really, our standards have really sunk this low. Its like Devon Smith scoring tons in local cricket and folks doing back flips. DWL

This youngster was in the dog house, a few weeks ago, had he failed today, this mb would have had, numerous threads.
He has silent a number of people, making people like you, come after his supporters.
We are all supporters of cricketers and teams we like, so Shane Dowrich batting today, should be recognized

jacksprat 2018-02-12 22:50:53

I was one who touted Dowich as potentially the
best batman on the team. Fact is his performance with both the bat and glove has been patchy.

No one could have have complained of he were dropped and someone else given a deserved chance,

analyst-kid 2018-02-13 00:33:48

The fact they they vigorously celebrate dowrich’s centuries against Zimbabwe and an England A team, shows exactly what kind of standard dowrich is at.

Its not that Dowrich just made runs, his effort made a difference and saved WI A with three test batsmen failing from shame and embarrassment. A Jamaica B team actually looked far better.

That is what a test batsman should be doing. Nothing to brag about but something to make ALL West Indians proud.

granite 2018-02-13 07:20:09

What's the reason for all the euphoria,Dowrich is a test player and a top batsman in the Caribbean, making runs at this level shouldn't surprise anybody;Dowrich has been a phenominal failure so I understand the glee among supporters, lets not forget he must carry on in tests making runs, and taking catches, something he hasn't been doing in tests.
I am one of his supporters, not as a W/K but as a batsman.

Elsie 2018-02-13 08:54:21

Dowrich, the Test Wicketkeeper, was inserted into this ‘A’ team squad to (no pun intended) keep out other talented and performing Keepers from showcasing their talent.

Hamilton and Bramble come to mind. The selectors talk about rewarding performance, then they do the opposite.
Why else would a supposed ‘proven’ Test Keeper, keep wicket in an ‘A’ team game !!

Brown threw him a Lifeline…

Walco 2018-02-13 09:02:23

In reply to Elsie

“With a strong England Lions team touring the Caribbean, the selection panel felt that it was a good opportunity to strengthen the A team with some of our Test players who will not have the opportunity to play any first-class cricket ahead of the Sri Lanka series,” Browne said.

“This series also provides some of the incumbent Test players the opportunity to restate a claim for a position in the Test match squad for the what will be two important home series (vs Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in June and July).”

That man is talking out of both sides of his mouth…

What about rewarding the top performers in the local First Class series…? Isn’t that one of his stated Goals also ?
If so, play Dowrich as a Batsman and reward a performing keeper with the specialist job .

Playing Dow as a keeper is suspicious… It seems like homeboy preference ..

Maybe you need o go Youtube his debut knock.

Dowrich has the same issue each Wondian has: -
1. A poor team, with no seniors to mentor.
2. No wicketkeeper can stay keepin for 2 days straight consistently,.
And be expected to make runs consistently.
I am wicket-keeping / opening batsman.
I know what I am talking about.
3. Wondies team is shite.
4. Very few proven international class players.

I am anti-Brung since an issue with Matrix
Many Bajans here know what I am talking about.

Causing Matrix to loose his Wondies pace.

Never liked or supported Brung since.

TanteMerle 2018-02-14 04:22:06

In reply to Larr Pullo

I have never argues for him to be a keeper.

I have always mentioned his batting as being test standard.

AGAIN MY POINT IS THAT PEEPS HERE
WERE SAYING A FEW WEEKS AG HE CAN'T BAT;
NOW THEIR CHANGING THEIR TUNES.
I AM ON THE POINT OF BATTING.

NO world keepers in recent times
are/were successful on a bad team.
Zimbabwe keeper was an exception.
And even experts said he would have
been a lot better on a better team.
Keeping is a lot of work(concentrating each ball)
It's hard to keep for hours and then bat well.

Randum,
Hamilton
Ambris
Dowrich
Shai (hope they do give him the job)
I also want someone take over the ODI job

No matter who keeps on dis Wondies
He will fail consistently.
Until this team can bowl out teams
Keepers workload will ensure batting failure.

Yes, Dowrich is suspect against short-pitched bowling based upon what happened in NZ. So too are KB and Blackwood.

And KP, Hope and Hetmyer are happy hookers susceptible to the leg side trap.

azadtnt 2018-02-14 10:50:01

As I said in my earlier comments Dowrich NEEDS to be consistent with his batting to even suggest that he is WI standards. I strongly believe he is good at the degraded regional level, however, has a long way to go to be what we expect from him like most of the players.

Outswinger 2018-02-14 14:27:29

Seriously, I am glad for Dow. But until I see him stand up to hostile fast bowling again I wont be convinced. He is very talented as a batsman, but I'm concerned about his mental approach since he got hit in the head.

2. None ah wunna darn bizness.
3. Get outta bajan yard.

lol lol lol lol lol

Remember I said that he kpt Matrix outta Bim team,
which translated to Matrix not making Wondies team.
Matrix was at that time playing as a bowler
and late innings slugger for Wondies.

Matrix eventually bettered his bating in IPL
Eventually got back in Wondies team.
By then, he batted with Gayle
who facked up his riddim by:-
1. Refusin singles
2. Turning 2's into ones
3. Pressuring Matrix.

Any fool following Matrix in IPL etc
could see that he was a riddim player
smacking 4's and 6's
taking quick singles and
turning 1's into 2'.

But Shamacian won't see dat.
Young Gayle and old Gayle are like

seaegg99 2018-02-15 09:20:39

Funny thing that Dowrich is afraid of fast bowling. Maybe the young man is in a bad patch but to say he has a fear of fast bowling is not true. Kid have played against faster bowlers and had no fear. The first time I saw Dowrich was as a 15 year old I think opening for Cawmere with KB playing in a second division final. Fast bowler was deposited time and time again to the boundary when they dropped short. Say the kid is in a slump and maybe his poor keeping is messing with his batting. Dowrich is one of the most aggressive batsmen in the WI and he have looked very tentative lately. Bad patch yes, fear I think not!

Andy99 2018-02-15 09:31:00

You are not giving Warrican enough credit. I watched him bat during the partnership with Dowrich and he played some high quality shots. Also, I rate the English left arm spinner Leach. Saw him deceive Blackwood with an arm ball and dislodge Blackwood's off stump. And wasn't Roland-Jones taking wickets for England against South Africa last summer?

you can do that to "shythound" - supports andy's thesis

anyone can do that to Blackwood. Less be a less radical and say most bowlers - supports andy's thesis

My own qualitative view is that this England Lion attack is decent...Leach has bowling action issue
