As the senior TV analyst in West Indies cricket, it was a dereliction of duty by the former fast bowler not to pronounce on Chanderpaul's contribution to the Guyana Jaguars campaign so far in the current 50 overs competition. While co-commentators Curtly Ambrose, Tino Best, Bishop's fellow ex Test paceers & the other guy Higgins were teeing off on the legend's latest struggles today, all bordering on the negative, Bish, who has a say in almost anything else, changed the subject. While some of us including myself feel Chanderpaul is experiencing a bad patch and should be kept in the team given the wisdom his young teammates are soaking in from him, while others disagree, why is Bish afraid to comment on his former teammate??? Isn't this what he is paid for??? Mikey Holding where're u when we need you???

Bishop mum on Chanderpaul's value to Jaguars.

Nothing new with Bish, I am surprised you are surprised. Bish is wrong to not give opinions when required and especially when its a controversial topic.
When he is commentating about the technical aspect of the game and especially about bowling and bowlers, he is almost peerless and a joy to listen too.
However, when the commentary requires color, fun and excitability his lack of skills become apparent and when it requires a prediction, for example a DRS call or picking a winner, he becomes paranoid and for listeners, it just not right.

Man trying to keep he lil pick
It reminds me of the well liked Joseph 'Reds' Perreira's perpetual silence, while commentating, of even a hint of criticism of the New Zealand umpires who were inflicting the worst robbery in cricket history on West Indies during the 1979/80 series there. That though is nothing compared to today as Bish has often stood up for WI's interest, with the recent U-19 World Cup controversy coming to mind.
man learn deh lesson talking against great players out of form ?
shiv should tek the coach wuk man
he ole self nuh able wid this limited overs thing
tho he took a great catch on the boundary

Seems from your statement that there were already enough folks bashing Shiv, and Bish did not feel the need to pile on.Its one thing to analise what is taking place as it relates to the game itself, its another thing to get involved in team composition if one is not aware of what role a player is asked by management to perform. Am curious to know if there was some benefit to be derived from another opinion.

Criticizing someone is not bashing.
In reply to Emir
He said the others were teeing off on him. In my world that is bashing.
In reply to NYCGURU
No, as professionals, they were discussing the merit of his selection. That is not bashing, "teeing off" is just the poster choice of words but that is also not bashing.

Cool boss. As one ages, one is going to come under more scrutiny when performances ship. I was not privy to the tenor of the discussion. Thanks for the clarity.

you see it.he look like ah under 19 player
Look plain and simple, Shiv is abusing the respect of the selectors not to drop his rass for his own selfish ends!! This team does NOT need Shiv to prosper. This team has very good cricketers who are well led by Johnson!! They need to do like Ottis and tell Shiv, thanks for your services, but we are bringing in a younger player, and NO, he's not your son!!!
It's damned unconscionable that he is holding up a spot of some youngster who could use the reps. He's not performing so show some pride and get out gracefully!!!
In reply to Larr Pullo
Larr is the last person to use the word unconscionable...
what a blowhard
Shiv's value to this team remains immeasurable, even if he aint making runs now, the youngsters around him are learning a ton, which is what those in the WI team are badly in need of. As matter of fact there're enough youths in this GT team, Johnson can do so much and no more, given his modest accomplishments at the international level.
In reply to davo... men with agenda all around boss.
In reply to davo
What are they learning from Shiv being in the team?
Oh, an lets say they leave him out of the starting XI, would they suddenly be cut off from that knowledge?
In reply to Larr Pullo... how to be a professional cricketer? No, they would not.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Learning in match play situations is incomparable to practice sessions. One strategic move can mean the difference between scoring a 50 or a 100, a wicket less spell & a haul or between a win and defeat.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Dude.. chill with this crusade...yuh think Shiv is a mook? Shiv know he in a bad patch and is using his clout to get outta this funk so he can be ready fuh fulfill dat County contract in style.... too bad it is what it is but sometimes you have to play the players who constantly play this game....
In reply to WestDem
And if that's what it is just call it by its name. Stop the fuckery and fakery about Shiv teaching!! Shiv not even out in the middle long enough to build a partnership!!!

I think you are being a bit unfair on Bishop. In the match between Leewards and Jamaica I think he was talking about the value of experience life Devon Thomas. To illustrate his point he said Chanderpaul should be batting through the innings but that in this tournament he is not doing so.
There was no need for Bishop to criticise Chanderpaul in this match because orville Higgins had already said everything that needed to be said.
In reply to mikesiva
No one on the panel should be speaking on behalf of the other, more so the least experienced Higgins for the most senior one in Bishop. If that was the case, u need not have anyone else on the panel but the former. Bish is there to give his expressed opinion like the others, on every game development, that's why there is four there. And no one is suggesting Bish criticise Shiv, all that is required is his view for or against the player's value to the team in that specific instance.
In reply to Larr Pullo
tell that to Johnson and other players who credit Shiv and his impact on the team.
