Haynes, Sammy question Pybus' return to West Indies

Desmond Haynes was right. The West Indies opening great had publicly questioned the process behind Richard Pybus' return to cricket in the West Indies as high performance director - a post newly created by Cricket West Indies (CWI). The much-travelled coach returns just over a year after he had left as team director.

"It would be great to ask the [CWI] president [Dave Cameron] about this appointment and when was this position advertised," Haynes posted on his Facebook account. The answer, ESPNcricinfo can confirm, is that it wasn't: the post was not advertised and Cameron did have a direct hand in Pybus' appointment, without interviewing any candidates.

Haynes was not the only skeptic. Darren Sammy, the former West Indies captain who led during Pybus' tenure as director, expressed disbelief at his return on Twitter. "Lies lies lies... Must be fake news," Sammy tweeted on February 9. A day later, in response to a reply, he tweeted: "Well I'm still hoping that nightmare is not true #fakenews he's not coming back at CWI."

Piebus response to Haynes

"Hi Desmond, as I'm a FB friend I presume it's for my attention too," Pybus posted on Facebook late on February 14. "To clarify a couple of points, I was invited by Bangladesh to go and meet their board, I didn't apply or was shortlisted for any positions.

I've coached for nearly 30 years, I started the junior provincial program[me] at Border [in South Africa] with Mark Boucher, Makhaya Ntini and Justin Kemp. Went on to set up the Border Academy and coach Border.

Mark and Makhaya both played in that team. Coached Pakistan at two Cricket World Cups, including the final in '99. Fast forward through nine championships won across all formats in South Africa, 3 x double in three consecutive years, Steyn, Morkel, du Plessis coming through those winning set-ups.

"And although WICB [CWI] doesn't seem to get much credit for the three World Cups [World T20, Women's World T20 and Under-19 World Cup] won in 2016, they weren't an accident, the U-19 and women were run by the HP program[me]. I wasn't replaced by Jimmy, I'd declined an extension. Regards Richard."

Haynes' response to Pybus

Desmond Haynes Just to clarify...This article was taken from the Press. Mr Pybus I did not direct ANY questions towards you, however, clearly it would appear as if you needed to validate CWI Presidents choice and reasoning in hiring you... Might I suggest that you send your feedback to the News Media that printed the article, rather than my FB page.
Mr Pybus, let me be clear, you are of No Concern to me!
West Indies Cricket has been my life and I am not happy with the current situation, as an ex-player I am entitled to voice my opinions... and I want better!! I am 100% devoted in ensuring that both our Legacy and our Future will not be destroyed by this CWI dictatorship with its poor administration and disrespect. So ... my question has been answered in an article on ESPN Cricinfo- this 'newly created' position was NOT advertised. THIS IS SO WRONG!

Why didn't Haynes put a link to the article instead of copy and paste?

Here I am seeking kudos again...

When "Super" Dave took over as president of WICB, I was first to express (here) my misgivings of having the people responsible for the welfare of West Indies Cricket all from the same territory.

Dave - WICB President: Jamaican
Morehead - WICB CEO: Jamaican
Hall - WIPA head: Jamaican

Since then Hall has given way to Wavell, and Morehead to Adams, but the count remains constant.

While I have no real issue with the named individuals, I still remain with the firm opinion that those positions must truly represent a cross-section of the region, and therefore must be spread among the representative territories. This would lessen the opportunities for collusion on any particular subject and or issue.

It's like we didn't learn anything from the H&H fiasco. Ok, fiasco might be a bit harsh.

Yuh notice how Tricky Dick tekkin credit for Boucher, Ntini, Steyn, Morkel, and du Plessis? The cricket equivalent of chain migration perhaps?

Great leaders don't toot their own horns ...

Dessie obviously does not like the Tricky One. Next time Pybus takes credit for the World Cup victories, he should also take credit for our current Test and ODI rankings.

We need more of the past players such as Haynes to give their opinions.
Where are the reporters that cover cricket in Caricom?

Are they on mute .

Where did Haynes say he wants pie of the pie.
he is just like most caribbean nationals seeing us
as minnow status with cluess leaders leading us to oblivion.

For over two decades this organization has lead us to minnow status, we are nearly at the bottom of the barrel with only further regression in sight.

CWI is a clueless bunch of morons.

Sammy was just beholden to a different master.

When a next master come een and show that he wouldn’t get the same perks and preferential treatment he got under the previous administration, he start to side with them who he preciously opposed when in the H&H regime. Not only that, but appear to grow some balls. But that is just appearance.

Remember when Gayle first came back into the team and Sammy wit he sour self say that Gyle has to adapt to the new team environment and is up to him to fit in..

Just tired of the bitching about the CWI and the insular pitch! If Cameron leaves today pundits will be still bitching!

The cricket community elect the board of directors they will vote again when that time comes around - can't please everybody!

Governance in the Caribbean is bad all around but one has to allow the democratic process to run its course!

I must admit that after being privileged to certain information, I am now not in favour of changing anything.

I now believe that the administrators are doing the right thing for West Indies cricket and that Mr.Cameron is not really as bad an administrator as most people perceived him to be.

My personal opinion is that Mr.Jimmy Adams and Mr.Dave Cameron do have West Indies cricket at heart and are doing their best to ensure West Indies cricket survives in today's global environment, given the intentional strategic management planning of cricket, not in the Caribbean by Caribbean management but globally by global management. In short, strategic management policies by the MCC and by the ICC.

Under those circumstances, managing West Indies cricket is tough and extremely complicated right now for Mr.Adams and Mr.Cameron and believe me, it is not going to get any easier.
