CaribbeanCricket.com 2018-06-19 14:20:28

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados- Keemo Paul will replace Shimron Hetmyer in the WINDIES Test Squad for the remainder of the Test Series against Sri Lanka.

Hetmyer will return home to Guyana to recover from a recent illness. While there, he will continue his preparations to return for the 2-day practice match against Bangladesh in Antigua.

WINDIES Head Coach Stuart Law said, “ Hetty is a big part of our future and now we want him to recover fully from his illness, so he can be at his best for the warm-up match versus Bangladesh.”

The third Test against Sri Lanka is the first Day/Night Test to be played in the Caribbean.

I change to the 3rd test team. In view of Hetty being replaced by Paul. The selectors will drop Devon and Paul will partner Brathwaite to open the batting.

You do know Paul is a duck farmer right? wink

In reply to Narper

Why are they telling us about Hetty and his illness being replaced by Paul? The 2 things have nothing to do with each other. If Hetty was not ill would Paul have been added to the squad?

I think they think the fans are Fools and just maybe they are correct!!!!!

A duck farmer who has a first class century.

Replacing a batsman with an up and coming allrounder,
Paul has to play in the next test, why would you fly a player from England, for only one match?

imusic 2018-06-19 18:20:51

Dey fly him all de way to little England because he already acclimatized? cool

Paul has 4 first class ducks. and an average of 21 with 1 century and 1 half-century.

I can’t see Paul playing in the final test unless someone from the starting CI in the last match is injured or ill.

Why would you bring Paul back to Barbados from England to warm the bench?
That would confirm that CWI has many double digit IQ people.

The move by the Selectors to include Paul might be a bad sign for Cummins, he seem to be the most likely person to be replace, although doing that at his ground will be an embarrassment to him.

Replace a 3rd down batsman with bowler. Or the selectors are just being politically correct... lol

In reply to dayne

I agree. I don't think any of the top 6 would be replaced. However, given that they could not increase the quota for the test, it would seem logical to replace Hety with Paul. Hety would not have played but there is a case for Paul to replace Cummings.

You are the most narrow minded person on this board

For you it ONLY about bajans

You have NEVER supported a single player other than a bajan

Whenever a bajan player is criticized you take it personally...and you have to defend him regardless whether the criticism is valid or not

You mean to say that Guyana's quota of two done mek, mostly to warm bench, fetch water and get an occasional game?
So Peter Hetmyer has to pay for Paul?

I like Cumming's potential. To drop him after 2 tests might break him.
They are always broke, so to find somebody to book a flight and pay passage for Paul to come only means one thing. He is playing. But WICB has not shown much logic in recent decades.

Maybe they want 5 prong?

You could not put it any better mate. It is a travesty that this yougster, one of the few who can get the ball off the square, has to sit and watch a bunch of blockers lull fans to sleep. I have never ever seen batsmen block more half volleys in my entire life. Maybe his future is five years down the road while Paint and Devon get a little more seasoning.

Is the above critical of bajans players, it critical of bajans, You to inject your narrow mindness and insecurities into every thing.
there are 4 selectors, one of them comes from the mudlands who seems to be advocating for the mudlands players.

pray tell me who is the bajan player that you are critical of in the above statement.

This proves once again that there is no selection policy or plan. How do you replace a batsman with a bowler? And please stop this crap about Paul being an all rounder. Maybe one day as he has that thing that Hooper had, POTENTIAL.

I really do not understand why you folks always have difficulty with this. The selectors started the series with a given set of players. With one test to go, they recognize that there is little likelihood that they would need to replace a batsman in the team but they may need to replace a bowler. So with a batsman pulling out, they take the opportunity to bring in the bowler.

Fact is, they have more information now (after two games) than they did at the start of the series and they decide to use that information. What’s wrong with that?

In reply to Narper and JOJO... 5 seamers for BIM test?

googley 2018-06-20 13:47:52

Most likely Paul will play for Bishoo since there are 2 spinners in Chase and Brathwaite.

Team should look like this

1. Kraigg
2. Smith
3. Powell
4. Hope
5. Chase
6. Dowrich
7. Holder
8. Paul
9. Roach
10. Cummings
11. Angel

So that means they had no idea what they were doing in the first place. Thanks for making my point.

Bestian 2018-06-20 14:07:10

Could it be that Holder is also not 100% and may not bowl too much in the final test?

tc1 2018-06-20 14:35:30

In reply to natty_forever

more likely 1 seamer and 4 slow bowlers, not going to happened, the Oval take spinner on a 5th day.

Realsteel 2018-06-20 14:47:22

Bye Cummins welcome Kemo

Seriously? That’s what you got from what I posted?

They have eight innings worth of information that they did not have when the squad was picked. It would be silly of them to simply stick to the initial thinking without taking the additional information into account.

... then Chase comes into play on the 5th day. Did West Indies of old?

natty_forever 2018-06-20 16:20:31

In reply to googley... well I am all for 5 bowlers. Think if we serious on getting back up the rankings, we have to try and win more matches. 6 batsmen and a wicket-keeper, have been giving us less runs than with out keeper at 6. And to use JOJO's logic, we had 4 innings to see that we need to strengthen the bowling.

big grin

Wasp 2018-06-20 21:26:44

Paul will replace Cummings. Devon will play in the third Match and get canned for the next series.

I like your team if they have pacer friendly wickets with Lankans susceptible to pace. But probably not happening.
Smith needs to make place for someone else on the bench.

Cancel dat. Someone on the bench already gone to ketch hassa in Guyana.

Paul will replace Cummings.

Paul will probably replace Bishoo. Cummings and Bishoo (and cappo Holder) failed to provide adequate bowling support to Gabriel and Roach in the second Test. On a pacy Kensington wicket it would make more sense to play Cummins.

Cummins needs to make good use of his natural bowling ability, tho. Youngsters that Paul, Aljo, etc, will replace him soon in the Test team if he doesn't smarten up.

mittheimp 2018-06-21 07:39:21

Paul would strengthen the tail a lot. Looks a good bowling prospect, playing as a change bowler in a 4 seam 2 spin attack takes the pressure away. Hope he plays, Windies test team taking shape. No stars but balance and commitment from a squad of decent players. Just hope the crowds would cme back a bit.

tc1 2018-06-21 09:55:11

In reply to natty_forever

My reference to slow bowlers is that Kemar is now a slow bowler, as well as Jason, Cummins and Paul.In essence only the Angel is a true seamer.
Chase is not a front line spinner at this time.

natty_forever 2018-06-21 10:18:15

In reply to tc1… If that was a joke, you failed. They all are seam bowlers, some Fast some medium fast. You do not have to be fast to take wickets, bowling good line and lengths will.
