HEADLINE: CWI NAMES 13-MAN SQUAD FOR T20I AGAINST BANGLADESH

CaribbeanCricket.com Jul 30, 2018, 3:06:04 PM

ST JOHN’S, ANTIGUA – WINDIES will now turn its attention to the three T20Is remaining on the Bangladesh tour of the region with one match in St Kitts and the other two in Florida, starting tomorrow at 8pm.

The Selection Panel has assembled a 13-man squad to face the visitors. The squad reads:

Carlos Brathwaite – Captain
Samuel Badree
Sheldon Cottrell
Andre Fletcher
Evin Lewis
Ashley Nurse
Keemo Paul
Rovman Powell
Denesh Ramdin
Andre Russell
Marlon Samuels
Chadwick Walton
Kesrick Williams

Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne, says “we have rested Chris Gayle and have added left-arm pacer, Sheldon Cottrell for variety to the bowling attack. The team reflects the last squad that performed well in the charity match in the UK.”

Going forward, the panel thinks the talent pool for the T20 version is widening and acknowledges “the strong performances of the young players in the WINDIES B team during the T20 series in the Canada's Global T20 League and this augurs well for our T20 game.”

Head Coach, Stuart Law has not hidden his disappointment in the 1-2 loss in the ODI but is “optimistic that the players are beginning to understand the direction they need to go. The players are gradually working harder and we expect the results to turn in our favor.”

What is the basis for your assertion? The fact that he won the last World Cup for us?

Keemo is Guyana’s quota pick????

What happen to Hety????

dayne Jul 30, 2018, 4:55:34 PM

In reply to runout

The Selectors are right to exclude Hetmyer, he has a big future ahead of him, they want him to improve for ODI's and Tests before he plays 20/20, smart move.

I see. So h learns by sitting, instead of capitalizing on his current form and confidence????

Sweet. I can’t make this stuff up.

Thank you. It is good to have differing opinions.

Gayle is been rested, Hety shouldn't be overused; Simmons needs to show his form; Narine should be included in team; Bravo shows no interest; and Sammy is been rested for life.

Why do we keep picking Badree. Are they blind? He's not been the same since shoulder surgery. He's done. Kesrick? Lol again this guy offers nothing. How about Fletcher? Why are we persisting with him?

CITYBOY Jul 31, 2018, 2:10:43 AM

Hola...Buddies...Please analyse Mr.Braitwaithe performances post those massive sixes in the world cup..wherein we all gave him thumbs up..and full support after that ....but
Compare him presently to any of the T20 players in the West Indies and he should not be on the radar..
CWI sent a B team to Canada that whupped some of the best...that team would maul Carlos and his band of merry men.
We are not moving forward..we are recycling junk...\AND WE WONDER WHY OUR CRICKET SUCKS AND NOT PROGRESSIVE>
Carlos B did not progress...its that simple

I don’t think WI can cast aside Carlos just yet, he still is relatively young! I’m hoping he makes progress in both T20 and 50overs format!

OZ has a comparable player in Stonis who isn’t exactly lighting the world afire, but he is always playing from my casual observation!

Yeah why

Done, done, done. Maybe if we had more 'done' cricketers, we would be a better team.

In reply to CITYBOY Hola chico de la ciudad, although he has never quite reproduced that innings against England he has played some good innings, e.g. for Sunrisers in the last IPL, and his T20 bowling is steady and he is an outstanding fielder...at 30 he still has a few more years to give us and I expect him to come good soon...it's nice to know that he is padded up at no. 8 or 9 when runs are needed.

The perfect team. all cricketers with low cricketing IQ,and only 20 overs to display it. Nice group of drug addicts, and head cases...Carlos should be in the one day team he's the best of this group. cool

But the T20 strength of the Windies has always been Jamaica and T&T....

Sammy ..well one can reasonably argue his place as an accurate line & length medium pace bowler and a late innings power hitter.

Braithwaite is built to bowl 100MPH but is a medium pacer. He has proven himself on the big stage ONCE but truthfully, his results since then have been negligible.

The color of his flag has more to do with his selection than his on-field production. Darren Sammy...part deaux perhaps

lol surprised big grin

Cricket_101 Jul 31, 2018, 2:39:43 PM

Hety should have made the team. He’s a clean power hitter
