KINGSTOWN, St Vincent - “When a player reveals they are reading more, and that they are committed to self-motivation training and you have seen improved performances, that tells you that some our players are committing themselves to playing the best cricket for West Indies. Ideally, a selector wants a player that is a self-starter and while that mostly is not the case,” Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne, sees the process he and his team are employing, over time, will work towards the benefit of West Indies Cricket.
Browne also feels that what will help to drive more consistent performances from our players, is having a second tier of well-prepared players to put selection pressure on the incumbent players. However, this can only be achieved by having a well-organized Franchise system with pre-season and off-season programs to enhance and improve the standard of play and players within the region. This would complement the amount of cricket being played, in different formats, by increasing the quality of play by the pool of players that are available.
Starting September this year, West Indies will play India and Bangladesh away; they will return home to face England and India; the one-day team will participate in the Cricket World Cup, May to July next year and there are several other tours to come. That means the selectors will be under pressure to assemble the best units to represent in the different formats. Additionally, there will be World Cup for Under 19s in 2020 and the 2020 World Twenty20 Championship.
That is a lot of cricket and Browne and his team will have to ensure that each team has a fair chance to be competitive and win. Since the West Indies made its international debut as a Test playing nation in 1928, there is one issue that attracted the most talk “selection” and today, nine decades later, that has not changed.

Let start by stating some Axioms :
TO MAKE MONEY YOU HAVE TO SPEND
MONEY TO MAKE OUR PLAYERS FULLY
COMPETITIVE IN THE INTERNATIONAL
CRICKET ARENA .
I do not think that once again I have to cite here the fact that the
WICBC/CWI & the Regional Boards bluntly refuse to change their archaic Structures .
The Problems that beset West Indies
Cricket could be quickly solved by
hiring Our Former Great Players .
Their Stewardship of the shortest
version of the game demonstrated that they have the knowledge & ability to harness & hone the talents of Our Players .
OUR PLAYERS MUST BE FULLY
COMPETITIVE IN INTERNATIONAL CRICKET
TO ATTRACT POTENTIAL SPONSORS .
POTENTIAL SPONSORS ONLY GRAVITATE TO
WINNING TEAMS .
It seems that those in the governance of West Indies Cricket seem blithely unaware of this freaking fact .
IT IS ASININE TO EXPECT
PROFESSIONALISM FOR OUR PLAYERS WHEN
THOSE IN THE GOVERNANCE OF CRICKET
IN THE REGION DO NOT EXUDE ANY
SEMBLANCE OF PROFESSIONALISM .

Regional Cricket History informs us
that it was Our former Great Players
who in the shortest format of the game
made our Players in this version of the game the best in the World .
Yet despite this their services it seems is not good enough for them to
harness & hone the talents of Our
Players . This freaking fact has seemingly escaped the attention of the
WICBC/CWI Lackeys in the Media who
claim to be Sports Journalists .

Kuk was treated unfairly by the BCA, but he could had come back strong, by scoring runs .
Leon Johnson is another guy, who did not let his bat spoke for him, after being dropped

You speak with a forked tongue.
Come selection time all kind of excuses will be made for picking an inexperienced team that will have to compete against a well oiled team.
That happens year in and year out. Our boys are never given the benefit of a few matches away to get acclimatized with local conditions. Hence we gain form after losing the series.
Why not pick the best team and stop playing with words?
I wil say it here again.
Pollard should be captain of both short forms of the game. Holder should be told he needs to step up in order to remain on the team as captain. Braithwaite one moment in the sun does not make him captain material despite him being a Bajan.
Lara the superstar was given ultimatums so why not this bunch.

he has always been eligible for T20 selection, however many offers has made to him in recent times to be part of the west Indies Set up, he is yet to accept any of those offers, which clearly demonstrates lack of interest, i have no idea why people are still calling for his inclusion

Those are just some of the key success factors for a player to get into a squad. What Browne emphasized that ideally a player is required to show consistent performances for at least a two-year period (ideally three) to be placed in the elite squad. And then the player is managed based on the role they play in the team over time.

This release is nothing more than unashamed promotion of Courtney. Full of platitudes that are in stark contrast to how the selectors really operate.

Very well stated . In this Forum I have on several occasions written about the fact that Our Players do not
get enough matches to get acclimatized
to both the weather & conditions of the Pitches .
That was not a necessity when the previous format for Touring Teams allowed matches between the Test Matches . It was those matches that
were of tremendous assistance to Our Players skills sharply harnessed &
honed .
THE STARK TRUTH IS THAT IN ERA MOST
OF OUR PLAYERS WERE PLAYING COUNTY
CRICKET IN ENGLAND , SO THEY WERE
ACCLIMATIZED TO PLAYING IN COLD
WEATHER . THEIR SKILLS WERE SHARPLY
HONED .
History informs us that when it was
decided to change the format of
Touring Teams , and England decided
to limit Players from playing Cricket in England ; the standard of
Cricket in the Region started its
decline .
It was only about 8 plus years ago
that it dawned on those in the governance of West Indies Cricket that they should have a Regional League .
IN THE GLORY DAYS OF WEST INDIES
CRICKET , THE WICBC/CWI COULD HAVE
HAD FINANCIAL SPONSORS TO FOR A
REGIONAL CRICKET LEAGUE . HISTORY
INFORMS US ALL THAT THEY DID
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING .
WE are now paying the price for the
Colossal Incompetence of the WICBC/CWI . Our current Standing in
International Cricket is such that WE are unable to attract many Financial Sponsors from outside the
Region .

sounds like something natty been saying on here for awhile now. I also notice they played 5 bowlers in a test match, so I going keep preaching, Browne listening.

I guess someone like a Nikita Miller must not have got that memo about players being selected on the back of "2-3 years of consistent performances"
