The replacement do not have to be an opener, it should be to anyone who performs and is willing to bat at that position.

sunfish 2018-12-01 12:39:04

The selectors need to find balance between chop and change and 'there for life even if failing'.

Ridge 2018-12-01 12:43:07

Kraigg continues to disappoint big time.
No improvement from him..

imusic 2018-12-01 12:59:51

Maybe, just maybe, performance in Regional FC cricket is not the best, or at least, NOT THE ONLY ARENA, to determine who is suitable for test cricket.

The current test selection criteria mandates it to be the only arena where one can be eligible for test selection

Just sayin

Tagenarine Chanderpaul and John Campbell are off to good starts.

Barbrady1 2018-12-13 16:18:24

T Chanderpaul and K Braithwaite would have to be the most defensive opening partnership in test cricket.

I think Campbell and Lewis are our best prospects in this position.

WICFan 2018-12-13 16:23:53

In reply to Barbrady1

Lewis shouldn't be considered until he plays some FC cricket.

openning 2018-12-13 16:54:17

What I saw from Campbell today, tells me he has been working on his game.

Yadi 2018-12-13 17:49:31

Campbell even hit Brathwaite for six.

JoeGrine 2018-12-13 18:59:14

Campbell:

(+)
1. He has all the shots and a fairly decent defense
2. He has been one of the two most consistent regional openers over the past two years.
3. He also bowls competent spin.

(-)
1. way too in love with the sweep shot
2. Needs to play with more value attached to his wicket

Yes
But he must have spent hours, learning to sweep from both side
I did not see any of our guys, attempting to get out of Dodds,(Jai) in India or Bangladesh.

In reply to mikesiva

Don't you think you should be a little more accurate with your stats and put down how many games each has played after 3 rounds? I mean...just so you don't look like you have an agenda Mikey rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

Dukes 2019-01-09 06:58:15

In reply to Judgement

The fact that the amount of runs is posted along with the average means that one can deduce the amount of innings the person was dismissed. If you are incapable of deducing the amount of matches then blame your teachers not mikesiva and certainly to impugn his character is unnecessary.

JoeGrine 2019-01-09 07:15:30

So you are asking him to use sound "judgement" big grin

mikesiva 2019-01-22 04:15:07

After five rounds....

1) Montcin Hodge (Lee) 470 runs @ ave of 67.14
2) Tage Chanderpaul (Guy) 362 runs @ ave of 51.71
3) Chadwick Walton (Jca) 359 runs @ ave of 44.87
4) Devon Smith (Wind) 346 runs @ ave of 43.25
5) Kasey Carty (Lee) 288 runs @ ave of 36
6) Jeremy Solozano (TT) 285 runs @ ave of 35.62
7) Chandrapaul Hemraj (Guy) 153 runs @ ave of 76.50
cool Trevon Griffith (Guy) 131 runs @ ave of 18.71
9) Shane Moseley (Bdos) 130 runs @ ave of 16.25
10) John Campbell (Jca) 118 runs @ ave of 29.50
11) Kyle Hope (TT) 104 runs @ ave of 13
12) Amir Jangoo (TT) 92 runs @ ave of 15.33
13) Kraigg Brathwaite (Bdos) 84 runs @ ave of 21
14) Anthony Alleyne (Bdos) 82 runs @ ave of 20.50
15) Kieron Powell (Lee) 27 runs @ ave of 6.75

At the halfway stage of the PCL, only five batsmen have scored over 300 runs and are averaging over 40, and four of them are openers. The other batsmen is wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble.

Since you are supposedly mathematically challenged here is little maths quizz for you.

Tage has scored 362 runs with an average of 51.71. With that info alone, did he play 4 matches or 5 matches?

Hint: 5 rounds of matches have been played but not all teams or players have played in all five rounds.

Here's a little maths help for you...that's what averages are for. Think about it!

mikesiva 2019-01-22 08:22:57

In reply to Maispwi

So, who exactly are you saying is being treated unfairly by the stats presented above? Kieran Powell? Kraigg Brathwaite? They've both played two matches, and their averages are appalling in this season's PCL to date.

In contrast, Hemraj has played one match, and has a good average from that solitary match.

It's what you make of your opportunities...the number of matches you play is the least important of the above stats.

Maispwi 2019-01-22 08:42:34

In reply to mikesiva

Did I say dat anyone was being treated unfairly? Ah was simply making the point dat de number of matches and innings provide context for the average and dat it not always possible to determine de number of matches or innings played from a runs total and an average.
