HEADLINE: Archer takes aim at CWI administration

CaribbeanCricket.com 2018-12-03 07:29:28

ALL-ROUNDER Jofra Archer has criticised West Indies for questioning the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to poach him, telling Cricket West Indies (CWI) they came calling too little, too late. Speaking to ESPN, Archer responded to CWI’s Chief Executive Officer, Johnny Grave, on the ECB’s approach being unfair and disadvantageous. He took aim at the administrator, making it clear the Windies’ cricket board made their grave mistake by not doing more to keep him as an aspiring youth cricketer.

“I saw the (Grave) article (...) I don’t really have too much to say on it to be honest. I left three years ago so what he’s saying now he should have said probably three years ago,” Archer said. Of course, Grave only joined the board in 2017, and Michael Muirhead was at the helm, so Grave’s opinion is a new one.

“There weren’t any opportunities (with West Indies) which is why I left. I want to say ‘no hard feelings’ but my dream is to play international cricket and with the possibility of it happening soon I think I made the right decision within myself,” he added.

He would still be happy playing for Surrey and Global T20.

With the way players in Demand across the Globe are treated in the Caribbean there is no way he would be confident moving here.

It is good to have options.
It is also good to have companies, wanting your service
Why would any youngster having the opportunity to travel, stay in the region?
The youngster comes home and enjoy Barbados with his boys and relatives, every year.
Just saw him on Facebook and Instagram with Kirk Edwards, on a bench like he never left
He will always be Bajan, just doing what best for him at this time, in his life.

A bit surprised he'd be responding to CWI, but I suppose he wanted to make it clear that it wasn't a case of abandoning the WI fold just for kicks.

If he is lucky he will be able to monetize himself for 15 years. Then he suffers a dramatic pay reduction. He could play for Surrey and Global T20 as well as W.I. T20 and CPL all while he is in his prime. Why limit yourself?

All of West Indies fans should line up and thank the IPL, many of the caribbean cricketers can make million$$ in the IPL, while still staying loyal to the West Indies. If not for that option, many more would undoubtedly pull a Jofra.

So is Archer saying that CWI should have told him three years ago that if he stayed he would one day be playing for the West Indies senior team?

Loyalty is a two way streak, I don’t blame Archer for moving to England and wanting to play for England, but surely if he really wanted to play for West Indies he could have left the option open.

Well that bridge is not Greaves or Cameron's or anyone from the CWI.

Moreover, he did not say anything negative about Barbados or West Indies cricket. He was polite.

His criticism was leveled against the CWI, Greaves, Cameron and perhaps those who have hijacked West Indies cricket.

The people accept that criticism of GREAVES, CAMERON OR ANYONE FROM THE CWI IS NOT CRITICISM OF WEST INDIES CRICKET.

It hurts me to see him go to England at a time when we are really struggling but at the same time, when I think of how WI destroyed the likes of Darren Bravo, Jermaine Blackwood, Pollard, Narine and others, I just can't blame the young man for running away. Dave Cameron and Emmanuel Nanthan brought our cricket to the grave man

Some say don't blame the board. Well this speaks for itself.

This Archer guy is bound for greatness even if it's as a Cricket Commentator (or just a commie in general).

He continues exhibiting his verbal diarrhea acumen.

Jofra hardly speaks at all ....quieter than Dwayne Smith and forced by the press to answer questions...

Verbal stuff came fro wicb..and he mumble four words in bewildered response.

He should have told wicb ceo to go forth and multiply and mind West Indies business

What bridge did Archer burn? WI only showed interest in him after his rehabilitation, in which dey played no part, and he became a talking point. Dere eh have bridge behind him. WI were trying to lay a shaky foundation at de 11th hr
