Would you buy a refurbished Ipad???

DAVE400 2018-12-09 07:59:44

Shopping for new tablets for my kids...was looking to buy ipad mini or new samsung ...however, in price range I am seeing some good looking refurbished ipads...

thinking that these tablets take a beating when they take them to school...

Why not buy refurbished?

Anyone with experience here to lend? How reliable are they? Should the batteries be a concern?

Yamfoot 2018-12-09 08:22:18

Nope. I dont want any used goods. Used clothes is ok

I have an iPad in perfect working condition, and its not refurbished. It even has a screen protector on it. DM me if you want to buy it.

Is “refurbished” better that second-hand, especially if it’s ”fingered too munched”?

Larr Pullo 2018-12-09 09:24:19

In reply to Casper

Yes refurbished has the weight of the company behind it. It's usually an item that is bought new and returned. It cannot be resold as new so they check it out and resell it as "refurbished".

In reply to Larr Pullo

I meant to ask “Isn’t” not “Is”.

I knew what “refurbished” is all about.

Ayenmol 2018-12-09 10:10:47

A refurbished item cannot possibly be fingered too much since companies only refurbish items that are returned as defective within a period covered by their return policy.

So what? 30-90 days?

They replace the defective part with a brand new factory item.

So it is foolish to think you are getting a bad piece of equipment.

Buying new, most of the items are fingured, to make sure they are in proper working condition...then you pay a premium for the idea that you are the first one to touch an item that was just made by a cold machine.

You know what is funny? The one item today that has the longest replacement plans are phones, tablets, computers...people pay insurance on them for years....what do you think they are replacing them with?

Thanks much

Just bought a refub iPad on Amazon for my little girl. When you get it MAKE SURE you get the extended 1 or 2 year warranty. Makes the deal rock solid. She has had it for 2 months. No problems. Looks new brand.

Now seeing this..ordered it without warranty.

Ayenmol 2018-12-10 11:04:22

In reply to DAVE400

You don't have to have any warranty if you do not care for that.

No more do you need a warranty on a refurbished item than a new one. That refurbished item was once new too.

The same parts occupy them both!

Contact Apple for an older brand, I had one replace a few years ago, by Apple for $50.
They will not replace a computer, but will be happy to replace your iPhone with a new iPhone 4 or an original iPad.

That is "open box" as opposed to refurbished....

Lol....Apple sends you a refurbished item...screen might be new as well as what ever part was defective, even the aluminium back.

But that tuing is not brand new....

DepEnds on the company.

An official Apple refurb has good weight behind it. Due to the drop in price between a refurb and an original, you can afford to drop the lil bit exta on the warranty.

You all just love spread the Apple propaganda.

A refurbished item is no more likely to fail than a new one! Otherwise it would simply be a defect in the Manufacturing process!

As was the case with the Note8!

Any item coming off a manufacturers line is liable to have a part fail for any number of reasons. Once that item's failed part is replaced it does not make it any more likely to have another failure!

Good way to recycle Dave. Keep tech stuff out of landfills.

Personally I would save myself the headache.

Currently using a refurbished iPhone, no problems so far(about 6 months in). I think I saw the same iPad deal on Amazon, I was tempted but there was no use for it

Buying someone else's problems or trade-ins is not a good idea unless there is a worry free warranty and return policy.

Ayenmol 2018-12-10 15:09:24

In reply to XFactor

How nyou mean someone else's problems...You do realize there is a difference between refurbished and repaired?

A manufacturer refurbished item was bought new, then returned to the manufacturer as defective within the period that is allowed by the manufacturer.

Broken screens wear and tear and other such are not included. In fact i use to purchase tese broken items from Assurion and repair them...not the same as refurbished!

In fact I would not be surprised if many items sold in te Islands are refurbished sold as new!

Thus the lesson is this...That item that is now being sold as new? Could be a refurbished item in a month!

In fact, it could be an item that was tested by the manufacturer, was defective, fixed and still sold as new!

Ayenmol 2018-12-10 15:22:48

In reply to XFactor

You know why you prefer to buy it new? Because the Manufacturer has programmed you to think that new is better, it's special. You deserve it.

Why you think they make all these adverts?

All I wanted is a replacement for my iPad.
I tried doing the same with my MacBook and was told it was ancient, had to buy a new version last year.
I was told by Mac Support that Vintage or obsolete products, are knowing repair by Apple, and can be replaced by an older version.

If they send you an original Ipad to replace a newer version then you are being wronged! Cause that original Ipad aint new, and you are being sent an inferior product!

I did not say that, my iPad was A1395 an old version, bought it in 06, could not get it to power on, took it to an Apple store,
They told me, they will have it replace.
I received the same brand a week later.
I only deal with Apple support team, when my wife an I have problems with our four Apple products.

Ayenmol 2018-12-10 16:00:13

But that is what I said.

And who else are you going to deal with? Aple does not authorize anyone else to repair their products.

Again folks, a refurbished item is when the MANUFACTURER does the work on the item!

When you are buying refurbished just ensure you are buying from a reputable source!

That's the catch. Anyone on Ebay can say their item has been refurbished.

Amazon ensures that sellers provide a receipt showing the item was bought from a manufacturer endorsed reseller, and sometimes you even need to provide a waiver from the manufacturer that you are approved to sell that item!

Open Box means it was never sold or invoiced.

Why would Apple sell a refurbished iPad/Iphone, and not a refurbished MacBook?

Ayenmol 2018-12-10 16:28:26

In reply to openning

You will have to ask them that...Apple is weird.

Although I believe that they honor the system for the sake of their carriers...otherwise they believe they have the gumption to tell you to kick rocks or buy another new product.

Which is why I have never owned an Apple product!
