171 Dot balls

What are the coaches coaching in this WI team? The amount of Dot balls the team accumulate has been a ongoing concern for a while now in the ODI's, it seems like the little things are not stressed in their planning sessions.

Folks around love Tage, Paint, Alleyne, etc. Just wait until they become WI players.

In recent times in limited over cricket...WI has always had a problem with dot balls....however WI had many upper and lower order 6 hitters which compensated for the dot balls....now we don't have the 6 hitters

Who was the biggest dot ball culprit in the innings?

Lil B, I believe.

Doesn't matter. It becomes a regional epidemic if you allow some to advance, or survive, by poking.

He has been a dot ball culprit all his ODI career.
I couldn't understand why people would expect different from him today

Coaches should be fired.

Hope, Bravo and Samuels. All 3 cannot play on a 50 overs team in 2018. The game has changed.

We risk using up 150 - 200 balls at a 70 SR. ie 105 - 140 runs. Even if we score at 120 for the remaining 150 - 100 balls that is 180 - 120 runs. Total 285 - 260.

It's the WI dilemma:

The longer Hope, Bravo and Samuels bat the lower our SR and score. If they get out early we have bowlers batting at the business end of the innings.

In the context, Shai Hope bats well for the current WI ODI team. Lil B cannot rotate the strike and Samuels does not care about rotating the strike.

The solution lies in replacing failing players with others who have earned a call up, including players previously dropped. If failing players are not dropped, the situation becomes more hopeless (no pun intended).

Narps, You are confusing between defensive and No Stroke wonders.

In my book Dravid was a good defensive batsman. Be had solid defense but can play all the strokes. When there is a ball to hit be can.

But when you talk about KB and his ilk they are slow because they do not have strokes and cannot score. When you see KB defend Over Pitches and full tosses that is not good batting.

Scoring at 40 SR by two batsmen does not mean they are similar.

Perfect summary. Shai Hope has really developed in ODI with decent SR.

Lil B can be strangled since he is very limited in Leg Side. That might work in tests but not in ODIs.

Sammuels, still tries to look cool and does not seem to care what is needed for the team inspite off playing International cricket for close to 20 years

It's been happening for a while.

The mindset needs to change, 5 dots + 1 boundary/maximum per over doesn't cut it.

Rotate the strike, push for the extra run, put pressure on the fielders.

There is plenty of muscle in the Windies team when it comes to hitting the ball hard, there doesn't seem to be much brains, when it comes to strategy.
