Hetmyer, Thomas could set off bidding wars in the IPL auction
Shimron Hetmyer
It always helps to play in a series in India in the lead-up to the auction. When West Indies toured India in October, Shimron Hetmyer attracted attention with his heavy-hitting. His ability to play spin and clear the boundary with ease makes him a very tempting option.
Hetmyer had finished the ODI series with 259 runs at an average of 51.80 at a strike rate of 140. Before the India tour, he also had a very good season in Caribbean Premier League, scoring 440 runs from 12 innings at 148.14. Hetmyer is available throughout the season and is in form. That's a lot of boxes ticked in an IPL auction: Hetmyer is likely to attract a bidding war.
Oshane Thomas
An important attribute that scouts and analysts look at is bowling speed. Although the numbers for bowlers who clock more than 140 kph aren't remarkable, speed is a key skill that every team wants to have. Billy Stanlake started well last season while the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Joffra Archer have had their moments. With every franchise looking for such quicks, one cricketer who has improved his chances is Oshane Thomas. His pace and bounce troubled the Indian batsmen during the recently concluded ODI series.
The 21-year-old has taken 26 wickets from 17 T20 matches at a strike rate of 14.3 and an economy rate of 8.27. With a possibility of the IPL being held in South Africa and many franchises, looking for overseas fast bowlers that are available, the odds for a bidding war look good.

CWI as usual waited too long to select Oshane Thomas, he should have been on WI ODI and test teams from about one year ago. The youth might now question CWI loyalty to his career when making his professional cricket decisions. Let's hope he remains in the WI team set up but allowed to play IPL matches.

Here is the new order. Blood the young and promising in T20s and F50s. Then elevate based on performance to test. Only the best for test.

Allyuh clinging to some long ago fantasy about test cricket
Test cricket for West Indies is gone. Redundant. A pipe dream.
Our FC cricket is a shambles. The whole PCL thing is a sham. I supposed to be franchise cricket. So why is every franchise filled with over 90% local players? Why are pitches the same as before? Who have umpiring standards not improved?
Any good and solvent business would focus on its strengths. West Indies strength is in T20 cricket. That what all the youth want to play. Its where they focus their attention. Its where weve been most successful in the past decade and more.
Concentrate and focus on our strengths.

West Indies strength is in T20 cricket
indeed not.... we have been sliding down the rankings, i don't have exact numbers but i know we lost a lot more games than we won in the last 2 years
our cricket is poor across all formats

Thats purely because of selection policy
Theres a captain who cannot make the team and isnt a good captain
Our best players in that format dont get selected....so they retire
And regardless of rankings, it is undoubtedly the format that were the best at
Gayle
Russell
Lewis
Bravo
Bravo
Simmons
Hetmeyer
Rutherford
Powell
Narine
Pierre
Pollard
Pooran
Ramdin
Hope
McCoy
Nurse
Allen
That nucleus is stronger than any other t20 collection on the planet.

shouldn't that be our "best" players in this format don't make themselves available....T10 and T20 leagues are their choice.
and even when they do, we don't see the results, it is however the format we are best at after all 8th in test, 9th in ODI and 7th in T20....one has to concur

How can you forget the fact that right after the WC victory the selectors said that they are going to go young and discarded most of the players in the winning team?
How come it always ends up being players mistake?

Pollard can mek the team and not Carlos. What criteria you using?
Pollard had never done anything of note in windies colors...at least Carlos had a moment.

U should not blame CWI when Jamaica was not selecting him! How can u not select a man bowling at over 140k? Best asked of Ja selectors

Well Gayle pointed out the same question over a year ago. Everyone seems to think that the Regional Cricket Boards are in bed with CWI

Hawk is not a board member or even close to it, nor would he ever want to be ( at least not with this current structure). Hawk calls it as he sees it and is prepared to tell anyone if and when they are wrong.
i just don't see the results to say we are strong in any format of cricket. In our best Format (T20) we are sliding down the rankings, we are at 7th following some heavy defeats this year, even with the squad Imusic selected, i am not convinced we will win consistently, most of the "stars" are a spent force due to their league commitments, the up and comers are simply not ready, it is only now Hope showing some solid consistency.

CWI will lose a few of the young ones to IPL.
Will they now make themselves available to play
for CWI? Interesting times lie ahead.

IPL is not the issue, since virtually no international cricket is played during that time, interesting times are already here by the way
