Test cricket the greatest?! Crowds galore in OZ

VIX 2018-12-16 17:12:30

but unfortunately for the "purists" and for the elderly, the crowds show up NOT for the tests, but for the Big Bash games!!

mediocre crowd numbers for the Test against India in Perth

we know how well the BBL is doing in cricket sales and corporate hospitality - it is smashing everything.

A so-called marquee test series can't pull acceptable crowds yet some folks refuse to accept that test cricket is on it's last legs!

If this were an ashes series the grounds would be full. One could argue OZ fans don't care about any other team save England and South Africa.

I am expanding on de man's observations. Just adding some meat to the pot.

Unlike the Bajan who said in the classic calypso by Kitch, 'Tek u meat out muh rice'! big grin

Test cricket dead or people not that enthusiastic to go look at their world renowned, exposed cheaters who tainted their name?

Hopefully it is short lived.

Btw, what is acceptable crowd?
Everything is relative.
Twenty thousand/day compared to 30K before this series, compared to a man and a dog in WI tourist venues, except Guyana and Trinidad.

Test cricket might be dying but not based on this transient situation in Australia.

how much longer the "transience" gonna last?? big grin
Acceptable test crowds are those that doesn't have to depend on subsidies from T20's income

I know.
Australian test cricket fans had show resilience so far. I always marveled at their attendance during this great depression (t20 conquest).

Let's see Boxing Day crowd, especially after they win this test, apparently "fair and square" without being caught with balls scratchers.
