Boring Cricket Aus v Ind..

sunfish 2018-12-26 23:14:18

..I've just turned off the TV and reached for the new papers because this match is painful to watch. India's boring batting is driving me to read a good story.

Kay 2018-12-26 23:21:05

I agree ... the decision not to lose has already been made. They will be happy with a drawn series at the end

sunfish 2018-12-26 23:27:37

Better to read the obituaries than watch this shyte..

carl0002 2018-12-26 23:49:50

Blame the oz's for preparing a dead wicket

StumpCam 2018-12-26 23:56:46

I think IND strategy is to bat as long as possible and make OZ bat twice on wearing pitch! However that plan just went awry with Rahane gone LBW to Lyon. 361/5

imusic 2018-12-27 01:58:30

I guarantee there will soon be a thread or post on this message hoard along the lines of “nothing beats test cricket” in reference to this very match

You ain't seeing the finer picture. The pitch is deteriorating at an alarming rate. India batting slow and sure has ensured that Australia only having the terrible part of the pitch to bat on. That 443 for India is pretty much 650 on other surfaces. Did you see the 6 overs India bowled last night? Bumrah making the ball talk. Man done tek a blow to the helmet. Ball jogging alarming.

Pujara and Rahane got out to balls keeping low on day 2 of an Australian test match.

Master stroke by India and co. If Aussie survive this game, i'll say they have done a tremendous job. Tough batting conditions out there. We have to remember that Australian seam attack is world class.

Test cricket epitomised! The senile and the infirm are on the edge of their wheelchairs!

Well said.
Very intense, the struggle between bat and ball on a tough wicket.
Get to study technicalities and strategies to conquer conditions.

Much faster than chess! smile

See I would have batted till this morning (third day) to wear them and the wicket down some more.
The psychological impact of having them bat a few overs late on the second day does not outweigh the advantage of wearing them down another hour or so next day, imho.
Grovel comes to mind.

Wickets atumbling.

It has picked up today but the first two days were a painful turnoff. Test cricket needs to keep the youngsters, brought up on T20, totally engaged else it will continue to lose its audience.

Is it too much to ask, why can't we have five exciting days?

sunfish 2018-12-27 20:52:52

In fairness to all concerned if it were the West Indies grinding it out on the first two days I may have posted a different perspective. Perhaps one of satisfaction.

sunfish 2018-12-27 21:03:05

Did I just write an oxymoron 'West Indies grinding it out'?

CricketLuva4 2018-12-27 21:04:10

In reply to sunfish

West Indians and grinding are not that much of an oxymoron. wink

Australia 101-5. India's boring Cricket paying off. Winning is what matters!!

Groundsmen are highly responsible for this. Once the pitch isn't right, it tends to get one sided. 2018 saw a lot of pitches that favoured fast bowling. Our home series saw purely bowling wickets against SRI & Bangladesh which was rare. Ind vs SA in SA was highly in favour of bowling. Same with Ind vs Eng in Eng. This current Ind vs Aus series, first 2 pitches had nuff help for bowlers.

The other 2 current boxing day test matches are in favour of bowlers. Such is the nature of modern aggressive cricket, that when the pitch has a bit of movement, batsmen get rolled over easier.

CricketLuva4 2018-12-27 21:57:21

This going like one of those Dubai tests when you bat first and grind the team down.

jen 2018-12-27 22:10:54

In reply to CricketLuva4

Correct, that's why it was great by India to take it easy for the first 2 days.

CricketLuva4 2018-12-27 23:03:16

In reply to jen

India should feel dissatisfied if they don't win this series. Their bowling attack is just as good as OZ.

The only reason OZ is competing is because their attack is excellent too.

In fact, with Smith, Warner, Bancroft, et al there, this series was still 50/50 more or less IMO.

jen 2018-12-28 00:02:49

In reply to CricketLuva4

Yes, India went in as favourites and should win the series. But this is what happens when you have a team (Aus) with a great bowling attack. It largely compensates for a weak batting line up.

jen 2018-12-28 00:03:45

And is the game still boring my friends? India largely in the drivers seat. Early on day 1 I told my mates, this game is already India's own. I saw the wicket as an asian wicket. Bat long for the first 2 days and mash up the opposition on a breaking wicket after. Exactly what's happening.

I have to admit, I thought India would have scored faster on day 1. Maybe the pitch was slower than it seemed.

conman 2018-12-28 08:18:00

I swear t20 has ruined cricket where people want 5 days of excitement. Cricket has never been about non stop excitement. As much as there is an art to playing test cricket there is as much an art to watching test cricket, and many people are loosing that art.

Team India has effectively batted Australia out of this test.

Still quizzical decision to bat again...they just had to bowl another 27 overs for the day...and with Jadu and Vihari, that would have been easy...the quicks would have had an easier job. And rain is on the horizon for days 4 & 5. Plus they have the Aussies on the run. Surprising to see Bumrah cranking up some serious pace...and having 45 wickets in 2018...with an inning to spare.

Folks don't understand the nuances of test cricket, hence the insatiable need for bat-up-and-catch cricket.

Game on!!!

As much as there is an art to playing test cricket there is as much an art to watching test cricket, and many people are loosing that art.

I guess there was an “art” to watching network tV series too. People have lost that “art” of being forced to watch 10 minutes of commercials in a 20 minute show,or waiting till next week to figure out “who killed who?” Instead of having the option to binge watch if they want.

People lead busy lives. Cricket is entertainment. People are entertained in different ways. In today’s world, many people prefer their entertainment on demand. It’s why television and cable networks are falling over themselves to secure the broadcast rights to chess.

It’s also why those same TV networks are so interested in securing broadcast rights to a world test cricket championship. The fictional championship that cricket should have as the ultimate test of skill in the game.

it goes both ways, there are fans who want just entertainment (they're not real cricket fans) and there are the purests who'll enjoy anyform of Cricket. big grin big grin

I'm under age 30 and when you have teams like Ind, SA, Aus, Eng clashing, test cricket is the shot. Test Cricket gets painful when the quality of opposition is very far apart. The longer the format, the weaker you are, the more licks you go tek.

T20 yo can be weak and lose by 50, which is very bad loss in T20 but to the human mind, it's a smaller number compare to a 200 run test loss. It's all in the mind.

It is like having McD for Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner!
Which of these youths want to watch pot/stove cook for 3-4 hrs? smile
Little do they know of the charm, pleasure of making a meal from scratch and watching it develop with loved ones, ordering partners to get this, get that.

Ok, watching Lance Gibbs bowl for hours from one end whether for DCC, trial match or for country or region (West Indies) with or without taking wicket!

An interesting meal/treat was him bowling to the wall Jayantilall. The man bowled pace, leg spin in addition to his usual repertoire of variation to try remove him, but the West Indies couldn't out Jayantilall at all!!
My group of spectators loved every minute of it.

Coming to theaters near you soon ......5X5 in yuh tail.

Disclaimer: I am an allrounder, equal opportunity fan.
Love ODI and 20X20.
Cannot handle 10X10. By the time I pee, half of the side out!

Now let me fix this for you:

I swear t20 has saved cricket where people want a few hours of excitement instead of 5 days of boredom.

Cricket has never been about non stop excitement, but with with the advent of T20, it now is!.

As much as there is an art to playing test cricket there is as much an art to watching test cricket, and the elderly and infirm will continue to enjoy it til their last days. lol lol lol

I tell you, this so called modern trend to not ensure follow on when they have such a big lead, bowled few overs and HAD Aussies on the run, now they are overwhelmed with CUMMING which have them bawling and moaning as they go down.
Always baffling to me.
Momentum lost.
Rain should fall just to show them.....a bird in the hand is worth two in de bush.
Evidence is there, based on India's folding under Cumming that the match would have been done soon.

Bro...they still have the Aussies on the ropes. 340+ on this wicket is a very, very tough ask.

Advantage Team India...barring rain India wraps this up tonigh or early Day 5.

Rain come down yet?

This game would have been done by now but for some silly reason they had to go and bat again. To pad averages?
Didn't work.
To be in vogue, just because....

I believe in two foh one!
A bird in the hand might now get away in de rain.

I love all forms of Cricket - they all have their place.

I've been more glued to the Ind vs Eng & Ind vs Aus test series than I have been over any franchise T20 league except the CPL. International cricket rocks - Cricket to sweet to settle for something 3 hours long as the only option.
