Well you certainly got the haterz out, that's for sure.

The only real beef with the AP award is that it's seriously biased in favour of Americans; other than that, there's a strong case for Serena getting the honour.

If every woman who won a Slam (including on debut) was in line to receive the AP award then tennis would sweep every year.

The last non-American tennis player to win was Martina Hingis. Shoot Steffi Freaking Graf has only won it once. That's how hard it is for a non-American to get the accolade.

Simona Halep would have a better claim than Naomi Osaka, for what it's worth. But neither would have gotten it over Simone Biles, much less Serena or any of the Americans on the short list. Someone would have to have won two or three Slams to be in the (US-biased) conversation.
