Bravo out Leewards clash

Stylish left-handed batsman Darren Bravo was not selected on the T&T Red Force team for the second round match of the West Indies Four-day championship match against the Leewards Hurricanes starting at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba on Friday.

The T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) released the names of the players yesterday, and Bravo who was initially touted as being on the team to face the Leewards was a notable absentee. Coach Kelvin Williams told Guardian Sport that Bravo indicated that he will not be available for this clash but will make himself available from the next round, which is against Jamaica at Sabina Park.

Making a return to the team after their sojourn to Bangladesh with the Windies team is fast bowler Shannon Gabriel and left-arm spinner Khary Pierre. Williams is excited about their return: “It is good to have these guys back with us, and we are looking for great performances from them. Shannon has not played four-day cricket for quite a while, so we are hoping that he runs in hard for us and makes a difference. It is good to have them with us, as we look to get our campaign back on track after losing our opening match against the Windwards.”

New Year means new start for Red Force

Coach of the T&T Red Force team Kelvin Williams is hoping for a new start for his team which will play its first game of 2019 against the Leewards Hurricanes in Cricket West Indies (CWI) Four-day championship at Brian Lara Cricket Academy from 10 am.

Red Force played its opening match of the tournament in December and lost to the Windwards Volcanoes at the same venue. It has not been a very happy venue for the Red Force which has lost all four of its First Class matches contested in Tarouba, San Fernando, to date.

Williams is hoping that after the Christmas break, the team will come back with a mindset of looking to change its fortunes.

"We have not had a good run at the Lara Academy but I have looked at the players coming back after their break and they look to be eager and carrying the right mindset to play much better."

The Leewards opened their campaign with a win over Barbados but fell to leaders and triple defending champions Guyana Jaguars. Whilst the Red Force is last in the standings on 4.4 points, the Hurricanes are third with 22.2 points. Guyana leads with 37 points, followed by the Barbados Pride on 22.6.

Does he really want to play cricket?

Something's definitely off with this guy. I would have thought he would want to play as many matches as he possibly could, to get on the team to face England.

The players got back from bangladesh quite a few days back, and most, if not all of them, are appearing for their respective teams. And Bravo needs game time the most, to be honest, he clearly looked rusty all tour, until they finally dropped him.

Man needs to spend more good time with the Venezuelan.

Perhaps doesn't see LI as any big test for his skills

Agreed. This makes me question how badly he wants to play. He's missed alot of cricket and this is his opportunity to play top level cricket against quality bowlers to get back into the mix. Playing test cricket will give him the time he needs to spend at the wicket without feeling the pressure to score quickly. It's baffling

He is playing at home and still got the jitters...

Leewards with an attack of Aljo/ Jremiah Louis/ Cornwall not a big test? Probably the biggest he will get at this level?
