Another Jamaican batsmen who, despite his enormous talent, doesn't seem to have anything between his ears....

I tuned in late with the score on 93/3...I checked the scorecard only to discover that Blackwood went LBW..first ball

we may never see him at test level again...at least not until he comes to his senses..even a 2nd innings century won't redeem this...not in my eyes.

In the words of the great tennis player John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious"

One match and an inning! The bigger question is how do these guys get into Windies team when they can't even dominate locally

Methinks Windies standard too low - score a little 50 sinting, and boops u on the senior team - ludicrous!

Blackwood went LBW..first ball

This is when every batsman is at their most vulnerable. First ball dismissals ha e happened to the best batsmen in the game.

Suggesting that his career is over because he got out first ball, and WORSE, implying that “until he comes to his senses, even a second innings century won’t redeem him in your eyes” speaks to a shocking naïveté and ignorance about cricket on your part. I would never have previously thought that about you.

Andrew Mason, Ralph Thorne and a CWI media person was praising the Streams and Andrew was promoting the various stations that was carrying the Barbados/Guyana game, logging in to see the Jamaica/Windwards game was not the same.
It took them hours to get the audio going on the first day, and the president is from Jamaica, and his Vice President is from the Dominica.

I appreciate the constructive criticism and more so the respectful manner in which it was put forth...

But please understand my basic frustration about Blackwood...the yute is a more than capable batsman as evidenced by his early returns in test cricket. He was dropped...one can argue rightfully so..after a poor and unproductive series of scores. He then ragained his "place" only to lose it again shortly after the tour to England...

I'm not as naive as you suppose and I do understand that a batsman can be undone on any ball, including the first one. But if a player like Blackwood is to return to form, do justice to his talent and regain his place in the Windies middle order, neither first-ball ducks nor quick-fire 30's will help him.

He has to learn (or re-learn) how to put an innings together and bat within the context of the extended format of the game, the occasional unplayable delivery notwithstanding.

My previous post was more unleashed frustration than it was
shocking naïveté and ignorance about cricket

imusic 2019-01-05 22:06:42

In reply to SirGarny

I figured as much. I am also frustrated by Blackwood’s lack of consistent production.

I am more frustrated by the selectors shoddy treatment of an obvious regional talent in a shallow talent pool.

I still don’t believe that performance in regional FC cricket should be the only metric to determine selection to the test team.

We don’t have a quality FC competition and we lack quality international players.

The selectors have been extremely patient with players like Kieron Powell and Shai Hope. Why can’t that be extended to Blackwood?
