LR Gibbs - one of the best WI bowlers ever

Lance Gibbs was definitely our greatest spinner ever by leaps and bounds. I don't even know who is our second best ever? Thoughts anyone?
If Brancker could get 4/13, what you think that Gibbs would do

Those two pals of mine, Ram and Val

Richard Martin "Prof" Edwards, is a former cricketer. He played five Test matches as an opening bowler for the West Indies on the tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1968-69. After leaving The Lodge School in Barbados, he played for Barbados between 1961-62 and 1969-70
Edwards 19 5 61 5
Edwards 10.4 1 46 2
Glendon Gibbs was Lance Gibbs cousin
Rawle Brancker is married to a Guyanese
Seymour Nurse never scored a century at Bourda, says he just never had any luck there
Carlyle Miller from DCC did a perfect imitation of the Garry Sobers walk (even better than dukes)
Pat Legall had an Indian sign over Cammie Smith getting him out cheaply frequently, sometimes even with long hops.
Colin Wiltshire the DCC opening batsman was the father of Squash champion Garfield Wiltshire. I wonder where Colin got that name from. They used to call him Colin Blind
Peter Lashley was like Bradman at Bourda.
In reply to Dukes
Are you sure? Glendon was a white Englishman, born and raised in British Guiana.
In reply to Norm
You must be thinking about somebody else. Glendon Gibbs was an Afro Guyanese who was a Permanent Secretary who died of a heart attack in his mid fifties.
In reply to Dukes
You may be right. I may be confusing him with Leslie Wight. The photo of Glendon Gibbs that I have does indeed show an Afro Guyanese. Here is what I have on my site for Glendon Gibbs:
Glendon Gibbs died in Georgetown on February 21, 1979, aged 53. He was, until his death, Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board of Control and represented it on the West Indies Board of Control.
I have to fix that site. It is reporting infected graphics for Windows users.
In reply to Norm
Actually,I have been trying to confirm that Glendon is Lances cousin but no luck. That first wicket record was broken by Gayle and Garrick.Leslie Wight was indeed white and used to live on Church Street opposite Bourda. One time we were playing cricket on the mall between church and north road and he spotted Lester Luke who was a fast bowler and he got Lester to join GCC because he felt he had talent. Sadly the next year Lester died by drowning in Surinam.Looking back I am surprised Leslie missed my leg breaks and googles. LOL

I learn something new everyday! I didn't know Carlyle played FC cricket for Guyana

WI next best spinner after Gibbs is his fellow countryman
Clyde Butts!
In reply to CricSham
I tend to agree.. Glendon may have been from a different Gibbs family.. Lots of Gibbs in Guyana. Very few played cricket.
In reply to Jacksprat
Back in those days Carlyle had the most graceful run up for a left arm quick. More Graceful than Gary, Julien or English.. And he knew it....

If you look at longevity, then it's Bishoo....

There was a cricket writer Michael Gibbes...white guy...can't remember whether he was in Guyana or Trinidad?
The second best West Indian spinner is either Ramadin or Valentine.
