WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — The International Cricket Council approved USA Cricket as its 105th member on Tuesday, restoring the sport in the United States after the expulsion of a previous national governing body.

The move making USA Cricket the ICC's 93rd associate member allows the group to obtain ICC development funding and sanction international and domestic cricket in the United States.

Technically it's a brand new board and hence a brand new member, although clearly it's just USA as an associate member being renewed.

Just in time for USA as they prep for WCL2 and the chance to gain ODI status.

Also just in time to move the Tallawah to Florida.

Seems like the simplest thing to do, really. Which may then lead to the question of if the franchise drafts more US prospects and fewer Jamaican ones, as part of their 'local push'.

In reply to Slipfeeler… Tallawahs stays … new franchise name required.

I tend to agree that the Tallawah name should stay in Jamaica but it's likely up to the franchise to make that decision for promotional/marketing purposes.

After all, "Florida Tallawahs" just doesn't make any kind of sense smile

Wonder if the old USACA brass have limped away with tail between legs or are trying to inch into USA Cricket's good graces

THere is in fact a lucrative cricket market in South Florida, while the sport of cricket is waning in JA, many youths have no interest in the game, only older folks with memories of past, victorious WI teams.

No doubt on the Florida angle. Plenty of West Indians and certainly many others who've emigrated from cricket-playing nations too. From a CPL/WI tour angle it's a market to be tapped.

USA overall, you still have the issues with the sport being primarily played only by first or second generation descendants of immigrants and only a 'thing' in select spots of the country. The challenge for the organisation is to promote and encourage it outside into the wider community, a tough task for any 'non-indigenous' sport in the US.

So it's official that the pecking order in Jamaica is T&F, football, cricket a distant third?
