Eating Raw Food

Raw meaning uncooked. Not the Mighty Sparrow meaning.

This article makes me think this is just vegan substitutes as opposed to uncooked meat, which I don't see a reference to?

Tried to find out more but the business website isn't functioning right now?

Uncooked vegan. No meat.

My cheeky reference to Sparrow must have misled you. big grin

My body loves raw foods. Did that for 21 days back in October 2013. Lost 5 lbs but the major boost was no more joint pain! I had also given up coffee and dairy.

Yamfoot 2019-01-10 14:25:52

Well I did about 90% raw. Had some cooked channa and lentil some days.

DirtyDan 2019-01-10 19:11:17

So name some raw foods that you eat.

Yamfoot 2019-01-12 01:17:54

Mainly fruits and veggies (salads). I also included raw plantain in salads and smoothies as well as raw sweet potato which is divine!

Was the raw sweet potato just peeled and eaten or was it prepared in any special way?

You destroy some of the nutrient value of food by cooking it. However, let us not forget cooking food has the very important benefit of killing bacteria.

Look at the Romaine recall.

And the reality of life now is we have introduced too many points of failure in the food chain.

Caribbean people are smart and typically overcook our food which is why we do not have many outbreaks of food related diseases.

I found the article interesting. I do not plan to adopt the raw food diet. As the article shows there are some folks who may need to adopt the diet for health reasons. Moderation in all things, even moderation in moderation. wink

I eat nuff raw veggies and nuff fresh fruit, but I still love cooked food.
I haven't eaten red meat for 40 years this year, but I love me some seafood and/or bird.

Sorry! lol

Peeled and blended in the Nutribullet. Gave it a creamy texture and a wonderful flavour.

Raw conch. Or live, even, if you just dive it. Likkle lime and hot pepper. Good nyammins.

I generally prefer my sushi raw too.

And when I make steak, it's barely warm. Dunno if that counts as raw?

Put me in for sushi. I'll eat a tuna maki any time of day.

I've heard steak rare is the best but I'm still coming to grips with medium (growing up in a Caribbean family, meat of course was always cooked "well done").

...and then some. smile

I think to be honest the best steak is medium rare, cooked sous vide, and quickly seared over charcoal.

I am just now coming to grips with eating pork at med-well or even medium. So much better, but hard to get past in-grained programming.

WRT to tuna.. my wife introduced me to a Hawaiian thing called poke. Fantastic!

There is only one meat you can truly eat raw. Though, it does come with risks too.

my wife introduced me to a thing called poke. Fantastic!

I see you already know. You ate raw poke and now you are married.

I love Bahamian conch salad. Used to make it quite often.

Can you still get fresh conch in Jamaica?

It's kind of sad how they have overfished conch in the Bahamas to the point where even in the Family Islands you have to go way out to get it, and it's only the juveniles. Used to be able to walk out at low tide and collect.

Thanks. Sound good if one gets the right variety of sweet potato. Recently discovered that although we mainly see 3 or 4 varieties there are over 100, many of which are not edible.

Well, me never see white sweet potato until I moved to Grenada. I disputed my colleague, until I tasted it.

Strange thing about Grenada. Apart from Ja they seem to grow the widest variety of foodstuff there: yellow yam; ribbon cane; naseberry (sapodella) in quantity, not a few like T&T or Barbados; and a variety of spices including pimento. I believe they even have custard apple.

I must admit, I like battered and fried everything. I have done the research and eating this way makes me feel good.

People give up on dieting because all that raw and “healthy food" tastes bad.

Go for it. You only live once. Every once in a while a man who is a smoker and a drinker lives to a hundred which shows that the odds can be beaten. Good luck.. lol lol lol
