South Africa vs Pakistan, third Test
Been raining a lot during the week.Expect a heavyish outfield.Sunshine predicted for the next couple of days with the occasional T.storm.
Good to see they picked the kid to play.Encourages guys who do well on the SA A Tours and Domestic front that they can play on the intl stage.
I haven't seen a whole lot of Hamza as the 4 Day tourneys are not televised but the little bit I've seen on SACM he looks like a sorted bat.
Elgar goes
Mohammad Abbas to Elgar, OUT, Abbas strikes with his fourth ball and finds the outside edge of Elgar. Good length and angling across off, seaming away. Elgar feels for the ball and tickles it behind. Sarfraz snaffles it and Abbas roars in delight
D Elgar c Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Abbas 5 (6b 1x4 0x6) SR: 83.33
SA 6/1
Elgar out to Abbas for five...one down.
Fifty partnership up between Markram-Amla
SA 58/1
What was Michael Holding doing during his current commentary, by bringing up all those horrendous stories of recent past Apartheid South Africa history?
I could feel the tension among his fellow South Africa commentators as they let Miley carry on and reminisce about his recent and first ever visit to Soweto.
They just remained silent and I sense Mickey recognized their discomfort, but he was not going to stop, he had to get some of those things off his chest.
In reply to Casper
Good for Mikey!
South Africa 108-1 at lunch.
Markram 78*
Amla 22*
Good to see Markram back on form....
Markram out to Faheem for 90.
Amla out to Shafiq for 41. Hamza in for his debut.
Guy McKechnie: "Could be a little terse out in the middle with both batsmen feeling like they are playing for the same spot!"
South Africa 226-3 at tea.
de Bruyn 48*
Hamza 38*
In reply to mikesiva
This Hamza kid looks really good in both defense and his run scoring aggression seems very calculated- perhaps the guy who will eventually replace Hashim.
Is his parents Iranian?
In reply to Casper
Who was his fellow commies when he was making these comments?
When I turned on the tv- he has Niti and Mbwanga in the box with him.
In reply to Emir
Indian South Africans
A story that's very similar to the British West Indies....
Abbas traps de Bruyn lbw for 49.
Mohammad Abbas to de Bruyn, OUT, Another appeal for lbw from Abbas. Umpire Ravi raises his finger, de Bryun knows he has been trapped in front. Nice and full, reverses in, de Bryun, having shuffled across, does not lay bat on ball and is pinned in front of middle. That's adjacent and the batsman doesn't even bother to review. Abbas finally has some success after the break
SA 229/4
Pity as this was shaping up to be a good little partnership.
Mohammad Amir to Bavuma, OUT, Amir finds reverse swing, finds the outside edge, and it settles into the gloves of Sarfraz. Good length and curving away close to off stump, which means Bavuma to play at it. He wafts and sends an outside edge to the keeper, who makes no mistake this time. Pakistan are thriving with the old ball
Rare failure for Temba
SA 238/5
Mohammad Amir to Zubayr Hamza, OUT, No fifty on debut for Hamza! Amir has him nicking off. Good length and reverses away outside off, Hamza thinks about letting this go, he is late to pull his bat away. Ends up feathering it behind to the keeper. Lovely little debut innings, nevertheless
Zubayr Hamza c Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 41 (68b 5x4 1x6) SR: 60.29
SA 244/6
Reverse swing- Pak doing what they do best- come back from the dead but don't be surprise if they lapse again. Meanwhile the commies have stopped focusing on cricket in favor of their golf- real poor of the commies here.
In reply to djdrastic
Hamza just got goat-mouthed Darn
In reply to mikesiva
Thanks Mike, I am very familiar with East Indians in SA.
But Hamza isn't Indian (South Asian) decent like Hash, Tahir and Shamshi.
There was Arab and Iranian migration into SA and I was thinking his heritage is from there.
In reply to runout
Aye but he looks a decent player though
Pak bowling some real quality stuff now.
Behardien is of Iranian ancestry

Outrageous commies- Amir leaves the field mid over as he APPEARS to have a small injury/niggle. The commies have forgotten the match is going on- they are still talking golf- it has been over 5 mins and they haven't even mention Amir leaving the field. They have ceased all cricket commentary now, only Golf.
In reply to Runs
Yes, he is, I mentioned it a few years ago here.
Bavum-vim gone. Saffies meltdown on display.
Amazing how quick this game this turned around.
SA were going at 4+ an over at one stage.
SA 257/7
In reply to djdrastic
Philander out to Hasan for one....
In reply to djdrastic
This is test cricket. Love to see testing contest.
Pakistan needs to capitalize on this session of play. Seize the momentum.
Rabada barbaad.
In reply to runout
Out to Hasan for a duck....
In reply to mikesiva
Pakistan bowling has been unlucky on this tour plus Yasir stunk up the joint.
Is he only effective on turning tracks? IF so They have to play him selectively
Warney is miles and miles ahead of these guys.
In reply to runout
Now de Kock out to Faheem for 18...nine down.
In reply to mikesiva
De Cock crows, Abbas rocks.
Go Pak!
What a collapse in the best batting track all series.
Mikey and the other commies said it was a batter's paradise.
CHOKERS!!!!!!
Hopefully Steyn can come out and hit a brisk 75 to get us back on track
SA 262/9
In reply to mikesiva
Mikey, will be interesting how Elgar skippers his side with a small first inning total. Plus he has no spinner to capitalize on the fourth inning. Interesting times ahead for him.
In reply to djdrastic
Dale backing away. The kitchen is too hot for the cook.
In reply to runout
I can't help feeling it might have been an error to omit Maharaj....
South Africa 262 all out.
Ashraf 3-57
In reply to mikesiva
Agreed!!!!
But great fight back by Pakistan.
In this series they missed a trick or two. And Yasir didnt bring anything to the table. Hence they were effectively handicapped with 3 bowlers.
Wickets galore from the 4th onward.
My highlight was seeing and hearing Big Easy,Ernie Els in the commentator's booth.
Big cricket fan.
Sylvester Clarke and Kallicharran got mentioned among the players he liked. Most others were South Africans.....Pollock, et al.
Scrap. Shan goes
In reply to runout
Philander strikes! Masood out for two....
Two in two! Now he gets Azhar out first ball....
wowowowowow
Philander to Azhar Ali, OUT, another for Philander! Jumps up at Azhar in the corridor and takes a proper bit of the outside edge this time! QDK lunges to his right and takes it. Marginal shape away from Philander. Starts at off, moves into the channel. Azhar defends with an open face and is gone first ball
Azhar Ali c de Kock b Philander 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
PAK 6/2

True dat
He better be thankful to Uncle Opis
In reply to runout
When half your tests are played at home you need a guy who can bowl well in home conditions. Philander does that job for South Africa.
Olivier's not bad at home too...he takes two in an over! Nightwatchman Abbas out for 11, and Shafiq for a duck.
Philander gets his third! Imam out for 43....
Pakistan 111-5 at lunch.
Babar 41*
Sarfraz 8*
In reply to runout
VerNone Homelander..
If you show Philander and ask a question "spot the home team"..
In reply to Khaga
Wow, some folks are still reeling from the 2-1 beating Philander dished out to India a year ago....
Philander topped the bowling stats in the Freedom Trophy
I guess the pain is still there....
Don't feel so bad. South Africa has won every series at home for a while now.
Rabada gets in on the act. Sarfraz gets 50 and out....
Olivier gets his third! Babar out for 49....
Two in two! Faheem out to Olivier for a duck.
In reply to mikesiva
Home Santhi! Home Santhi! Home Santihi..
Olivier gets his five-fer! Amir out for 10....
Pakistan 185 all out.
Olivier 5-51
Philander 3-43
Rabada 2-41

Get ready for the Markram show. What an absolutely breathtaking young talent. Loads of shots and not afraid to play them.
In reply to NYCGURU
What show???
Curtains. Say, by chance, you didnt join the GM crew?
In reply to runout
It's the Amla de Kock show.
Batsmen out. ...
Elgar 5
Markham 21
De bruyne 7
Hamza 0
Bavuma 23
South Africa 135-5 at stumps.
Amla 42 not out
De Kock 34 not out
In reply to mikesiva
Disappointed in Pakistans response in the first inning. Darn it making a 40-50 dont win games. And none of the batsmen on tour, except for Masood, looks like they want to fight this out. Babar, talented and exciting, flatters to deceive.
And Sarfraz has to take more responsibility. His tenure as captain is quickly coming to a close.
For a moment I was expecting the quicks to run through the Saffies like the first inning. But de Kock crowing, and Amla rowing freely.
Advantage South Africa.
I was busy watching Rohit, then I collapsed and slept for a few.
Saw latter part of SA's innings.
Amla....class is class.
Bavuma looks good (not talking stats here).
DeKock....well, that's my other name, profile pic! Love the kid.
In reply to goofballs
Amla gets his half century! Very important in the context of the match.
And de Kock gets his half century too.
Hassan Ali gets the wicket of Amla for 70.
Amir gets the wicket of Philander for 14.
South Africa 232-7 at lunch.
De Kock 77 not out
Rabada four not out
Quinton de Kock gets his century!
South Africa 303 all out.
De Kock 129
Rabada 21
Shadab 3-41
Faheem 3-42
Target 381.
Steyn strikes! Imam out for 35. One down.
Steyn again! Shan out for 37. Two down.
In reply to mikesiva
There have been some caught behind that looks dodgy against Pak.
In reply to granite
That second Steyn wicket looked suspect didn't it?
Olivier again! Azhar out for 15. Three down.
In reply to mikesiva
This Saffie pace attack is relentless, reminds me of our own when we rule the world.Imagine a batsman looking forward for some spin and it never come.Nowadays we try it but it must be 4 very good smart fast bowlers.I hear about the new ones on the horizon from Jamaica, lets hope they improve fast.
In reply to granite
We have a long way to go to recapture our glory days or to catch up with south Africa.
Assad gets his half century!
Olivier gets two in two! Babar out for 21. Sarfraz out for a duck!
42.5
Olivier to Sarfaraz, out Bowled!! Golden duck for the Pakistan skipper. Sarfaraz was probably expecting the short ball. But, Olivier bamboozles him with a length ball that seamed in off the deck. The right-hander was hanging back and played well outside the line of the ball. A big gap between pad and bat for the ball to sneak through. Crashes into the stumps and Olivier is now on a hat-trick.
Sarfaraz b Olivier 0(1)
42.4
Olivier to Babar Azam, out Caught by de Kock!! That's a vicious delivery from Olivier. Too good for Babar Azam and he's gloved that to the keeper. A skiddy short ball that kept coming in with the angle. Add the steep bounce to it - that's a very dangerous combo. Azam can't pull his bat away from it as he tried to sway away from it. Brushes the glove and goes straight into the hands of the keeper. South Africa have broken the partnership and quickly.
Babar Azam c de Kock b Olivier 21(29) [4s-5]
