Sammy demands answers over Pybus appointment
FORMER WEST Indies cricket team captain Daren Sammy is calling on Dave Cameron, president of Cricket West Indies (CWI) to provide answers over the selection of Richard Pybus as interim WI team coach.
The English-born Pybus, who is also the CWI high performance director, was appointed last week to serve as coach until the end of the India home series in September 2019.
But Sammy, in a Twitter post on Wednesday, wrote, Now Mr President as a West Indian I need answers, in fact WI demand some answers. Its 2019 and the West Indian public must stand up against this.
Sammy, who has not donned WI colours since his infamous post-game comments after the victorious campaign at the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup in India, outlined a number of issues he has with Pybus, who served as CWI director of cricket from 2013-2016.
Sammy referred to Pybus alleged role in the removal of WI mens team coaches Ottis Gibson (now South Africa coach), Phil Simmons (now Afghanistan coach) as well as womens team coach Sherwin Campbell during his time as director of cricket.

Tricky Dick made lots of enemies during his three years as Director of Cricket. Don't know how this Englishman with only a Level 2 coaching certificate can be even interim head coach of the WI team. We have more qualified coaches here in the WI, including Jimmy Adams and Eldine Baptiste

Richard Pybus is not a native South African...while he did coach there and won many titles with Titans and cape cobras he is in fact English.

Pybus's appointment seems to be reward for the dirty work he has done for Dave n Co over the years. But what start bad will end worse.

This Sammy fellow is a real piece of work - isn't he part of Windies setup - Ambassador!
Plus not getting his facts right! - Pybus native of South Africa?
Pybus ply his trade just like any Windies cricketer or any Carib folks in the diaspora
The same Sammy collected a lot of accolades under false pretense or on the back of many players
When did he become a freedom fighter?
Certainly, he did not fight for senior players when they were put out to pasture but instead enjoyed the perks in their absence
Very hypocritical that Sammy fellow!

Can Cornwall pass the yo-yo test?
Chris and Marlon didn't used to DO the yo-yo test so why not make an exception for Cornwall the same way, based on his consistently exceptional performances? You can't have one rule for some, and another rule for others.
CWI is like a corrupt Nigerian Government that's why they get away with such inconsistent policies.

If the charge is correct, management needs to account! Why Sammy doesn't harp on that misstep? As per usual, he's fighting the wrong fight!
That said, Cornwall is no more entitled than Miller! albeit two wrongs do not make a right!

Most of them on the WI team don't pass the yo yo test
Just recently Hemraj and Sherfane failed the test and they made the ODI and T20 squads...
You really think guys like Nurse and so does pass the test?
The pass mark is 44 or 45 somewhere around there.. Most of the guys running mid 30s to 40 some way less

The pass mark is now 50 so even tougher. Hemraj, Nurse etc won't ever come close to passing that on their current fitness form and yet they use fitness as an excuse to keep the likes of Jimbo and Sarwan etc out. Corruption at its best! The question is, why won't the media dig deeper or expose these inconsistencies by the Board?

Don't know whether players need yo-yo test to claat ball but cricket is becoming unnecessarily bureaucratic when all players need to understand is a bit of physics!

I have to question y'all judgement on this one. If the pass mark is 50 and a player scores a 45 and another player scores 20, everything else being equal would you pick the player scoring 20 or the player scoring 45?

If CWI implement a "must-pass" policy on fitness (and infact, went onto make it tougher by making it 50) then one would assume it is there for a reason. Otherwise, they could just as easily keep in players who don't play well but do well on the yo-yo (oh wait, they do that already!). My issue is, why have a universal policy to begin with if you are not going to exercise it equally. And clearly they ARE picking players who score the equivalent of 20 on the yo-yo (and that too, without all other factors being equal) so why discriminate against Cornwall if they are taking chances with others?
