Veteran Jerome Taylor has been brought in to replace young speedster Oshane Thomas in the Jamaica Scorpions 13-man squad to face hosts Windward Islands Volcanoes in the West Indies four-day cricket tournament.
Medium pacer Derval Green and batsman Brandon King both returning from injury are also included by the Scorpions' selection panel, which comprises chairman Junior Bennett, Ephraim McLeod and head coach Robert Haynes.
The 34-year-old fast bowler Taylor, who has played 46 Tests for West Indies, last played a first-class match for the Scorpions in April 2017.
Thomas, 21, has a right shoulder niggle, hence the decision to rest him.
Chairman of selectors Junior Bennett explained that Thomas would have been rested even without the shoulder concern

Taylor, Green, King in to reverse Scorpion woes
Oshane has to be carefully managed but Jerome Taylor must be on his last legs, no puns intended.
In reply to Slipfeeler… not at this level. 2018 was one of his best years in awhile.

Well lets all wish Taylor well that he will resuscitate the Scorpion's poor season.
In reply to Slipfeeler taking wickets not our main issue, making runs ...
He [Thomas] is a young player, so we have to manage his workload. Even without that issue we always planned to rest him at different stages in the season, he told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
As per Bennett.
It's interesting that Killa Miller is also been rested after taking 24 wickets in 3 matches.

Thanks (re Campbell as well as making runs).

Well the season is lost, why are the Selectors going back to Taylor, a younger player could have been given the opportunity
In reply to Slipfeeler
I think one of the reasons he gave for resigning as captain was he wanted to become more of a mentor for the younger players so he's probably not going to play a full season from here on.

"Franchise" cricket is not the avenue for blooding/developing players.
Miller is hardly likely to play away games again for Jamaica. He is making his exit from regionals while allow the selectors to find his replacement.
In reply to JoeGrine
Now we know why JA selectors decided to rest Oshane, test selection. In terms of Miller resting and heading into retirement, if Scorpions are thinking regionally that young Offie Bryan Charles, sounds like a great replacement.
