Bravo recalled for England Test series
RED FORCE batsman Darren Bravo has been recalled to the Windies squad for the Test series against England starting on January 23 in Barbados. Bravo has not played Test cricket since November 2016, after a dispute with Cricket West Indies president Dave Cameron.
With that issue fully resolved, the 29-year-old returned to international duty last month for the limited overs portion of the tour of Bangladesh. The left-hander failed to impress but continues to push for form as he seeks to reclaim his place in the Test side. He featured for the Red Force in their recent four-day victory vs Jamaica Scorpions, scoring a solid 38 off 100 deliveries (three fours, one six) in the second innings.
FULL SQUAD: Jason Holder (captain), Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican.
NOTE: Oshane Thomas has been called up as cover for Alzarri Joseph.

I expect Lil B to do well.
He is a test batsman.
He can work off his rustiness in an innings.

I see they have ignored Keemo Paul.
Warrican and Permaul bowled at Kensington recently....Permaul was the better bowler....but Permaul is being ignored too

I don't understand this.
Is Al Jo fit or not? If not ...don't push him.
Go straight ahead with Thomas....short spells of shock and awe for dem Pommies

Alzarri deserve his spot.. Bowled some brilliant spells for Leewards this season..
I didn't expect Keemo to make the final XI but I expected him to be in the squad.. Just gotta continue doing his thing and he will be back in the squad in no time

I have to disagree with you on pual and permaul, permaul have been tried and failed Paul is not a genuine fast bowler so he have to wait an the alrounder position. This is a team that say you want to win and not just compete.

let us be real. there are only 3 genuine test cricketers in this squad. a victory for us will be our ability to last 5 days. beyond that, this is a practice cricket for the colonials. back to the way things were before the 1960s.
I do admire the hope of the selectors. quite surprised that more players from Barbados not included.

Have to agree, if there is doubts about Joseph's fitness, let him play domestic cricket and monitor him.
Paul should be in the squad.

I don't understand Brownie's concern about Al-Jo. He has bowled with no problem in all the recent matches. Bowled real fast and taken wickets. He is a small islander so it is just a case of putting him under pressure. As usual.

He can work off his rustiness in an innings.
Yep, fair enough; but in that case he should have been playing today.

permaul have been tried and failed
REALLY?
Permaul 6 tests 18 wickets
Warrican 7 tests 21 wickets
Compare the test records of Warrican and Permaul...if you say Permaul has failed..then so too has Warrican
Permaul played his last test in 2015...but has continued to dominate the regional tournament...truth be told Miller also deserves a shot

Al Jo is playing in the 2 day President's XI match starting today.
It is as if they expect him to break down...so they put Thomas on standby for the test

Warrican was selected from his A team performance.
He and Cornwall had a very good outing against England Lions.
We seem to ignore A team performance, or inserting players into the International setup, before seeing them at the A team level.
Have a look at the team's performance against the Lions.

Chase is not good enough to be a 5th bowler. We need a genuine 5th bowler

That A team played almost exactly ONE YEAR AGO
So the current performance in regional don't count?
Why Permaul ....a spinner....at 29 years old...can't make the A team too?
Didn't he cappo the A team at one time?

The selectors doubts couldn't be good for Joseph mentally either.
Does he bowl at 100% to show them he's fine, bowl a couple of long spells and possibly overdo it, bowl at say 90% and hold back a bit?
Would it not have been wiser to call up Keemo Paul as backup & let Joseph play the tour match + do some strength & conditioning, bowling in the nets with the West Indies?

How can you compare an A team performance to a regional tournament.
Regional performance should earn you selection on the A team, and a performance like Devon Smith a year or so ago, should get you into the International squad.
I like the selection of Joseph after his injury, especially his bowling during the regional tournament, and the recall of Darren Bravo.
Cornwall is the only spinner, I would select, ahead of Warrican.

You can't select players based on performance a year ago...that A team against the Lions was ONE year ago...especially when you have a regional tournament in progress on which to judge the form of players
In my view the A team standard is not better than our dung heap standard.
Look at your boy Paint....7 months ago he made back to back test tons....now he can't buy a test run

I would select, ahead of Warrican.
And why would you not select Permaul
Because the kunts didn't select him for an A team?????
ON PERFORMANCE didn't Permaul deserve an A team selection?
Warrican and Permaul are both left arm orthodox bowlers
The big difference is Warrican is bajan....and the cappo is bajan .
If you tell me Permaul will be treated like Bishoo by the bajan cappo...then I will agree to not pick Permaul

Come on Narps.
Why Permaul? I know is your boy, but these guys have been tried before.
Permaul 6 tests 18 wickets
Warrican 7 tests 21 wickets
Don't forget to include their averages.
None of these guys have been given a long stretch like Bishoo;
If I had to include a spinner I would go with Bishoo who has a better average over a longer period than the two mentioned above.
Permaul; 43.77
Warrican: 38.38
Bishoo: 37.17
