First thing the Bajan selectors allowed a budding star like Shamar Springer, an experienced bowling allrounder like Stoute and the seasoned FC allrounder Primus to sit down and watch Alleyne,Jones and Greaves struggle to get the ball off the square.
Springer and the newbie Kirton in one innings against Trinidad surpassed everything the specialist bats including Brooks did for the season. Stoute came and show his worth as the top FC wickettaker for Pride while Primus remains on the bench.
Second thing WI simalarily ignore performing allrounders like Cornwall and Reifer for specialist bats and bowlers who can't bring the multi skills they provide with bat and ball.
Memo to these selectors: If the specialists cant do the job....Go FOR THE ALLROUNDERS....Remember Depeiza,Atkinson, Julien,Collis King,Eldine Baptiste and Ian Bradshaw!

Alleyne, Greaves and Jones are approching 25 yo , Primus, Kirton and Springer are 22, 20, and 20 , next time you will seek to replace the later 3 with Bethel, and his u15 team mates.
In reply to tc1
Dude, that's why every sports organizations, have yearly drafts.
A number of first and second round draft choices, will be starting in the NBA, NFL and NHL next season, owners and presidents of teams, want to win.
You just don't keep a player on a team, because of his age, he should be productive.
In reply to openning
Dude..? Man this almost 2020
You seem like you dont know which side of the coin you are, if you study pro team like you said you do, you dont trade a 20/year old for a 22 yo unless one has a great upside.
At this stage of development , you cannot compare professional organization draft in NA with a cricket draft.
In reply to tc1
Man please. Talent no age should dictate this. People like you play politics with this. Sobers then should have waited until he reached 25 before being given a shot. Springer is a talent being wasted in Barbados all you conseevative thinkers are blind and have no foresight. You just continue to hold cricket back. The most talented teams win in almost all situations. You,Conde and Browne
Cannot see this.
In reply to tc1
Do you follow high school and college sports in the states?
If you do, you will notice, it is the same as following young cricketers in the region, some make it, others don't.
Archie Griffin won the 1974 and 1975 heisman trophy, because of his size, he was not drafted, in the NFL.
Australia changed it athletic in the late eighties, having a ministry of sports, and building facilities for training.
Imusic and I had a different opinion about Kraigg, my focus was on the number of centuries he had accumulated, the musician focus solely on his poking.
In reply to seaegg99
I will further say, Primus had an opportunity similar to Kyle Mayers, to cement a spot on a regional team.
He was drafted and played a couple seasons for The Red Force
In reply to openning
Archie Griffin was drafted in the 1st round of the draft, 5-9 running/ tail backs came in the league in the 70s, Anthony Davis USC and Tony Dorsett Pittsburgh to name 2.
KB is not my type of player, many guys said he cannot bat, what he does work for him
In reply to seaegg99
What ?
You have Alleyne, Jones, Greaves, Springer now Kirton , all young players who are you are going to developed.
I never said Springer is not a talent.he has performance todate is avg.
Let me tell you about Springer, he was a late addition to the trial squad for WC16 and outplayed his teammates Len Boucher and Kirton, scored a ton in squad game and made the team.
Springer is in the mix, when you are in the mix, you get a place in the team by your performance in the nets period. you out-bat, bowl and outfield your team mates to be in the final X1.
he has 6 more matches to show his game.

Bim has to rescue Kyle Hope from that team if he wants to continue
playing cricket the Barbadian way. We have a batting and bowling
tradition to uphold.
In reply to TheTrail
covering for your hommie
In reply to TheTrail
Kyle has joined the group of Pokers, being east of thirty, it will be hard to change.
He will remain a good club cricketer, having fans in about 2 years, arguing/debating his Pride selection.

Shamar Springer first match.
Bowling
1st inning 1-28
2nd innings 4-24
Batting
47 (85)
Good outing youth
In reply to tc1
Watched Springer bat yesterday and you could see his ability. Jones is a walking out. Seems like most of they guys these days walk out to the crease ready to walk back in. Springer didn't let the situation even trouble him. Saw the kid in the WC and against Fidel a couple years ago. I saw no fear in him. We do not play a lot of cricket so do not have enough time for a talent to sit around.
In reply to openning
Forgot to add that he walked in with Bim struggling. The situation didn't even matter to him.
Springer 47 and 5/52
Stoute 8/57
Kirton 47
Mindley 6/81
....all four of these players have gotten their chance and stamped their presence.
TCL ...i am not arguing for age ...I am arguing for performance...Alleyne,Jones and Greaves are not doing well this season thats all.
In reply to seaegg99
I have said during the WC that Springer reminds me of Boyce and King batting, he is not afraid to strike the ball, he is a old time bajan batsman.Good start by him
Don't write off Jones yet, he is also a good youngster.
kool
In reply to seaegg99
Fans like us, have moved away from the sixties thinking.
In one of tc1 post, he said Springer scored a ton, that got hm into a Barbados youth team, that should had given tc1 a clue has to the youngster, development.
He got my attention at the WC, and made me a fan.
I am telling the selectors, get Shian Brathwaite into the starting X1
Mosely Alleyne and Jones were collectively dismissed for 29 in the first innings and 32 in the second innings...time to give Primus and young Shian a chance even as a batsman.
In reply to analyst-kid
Good start, but don't write off Alleyne, Jones or Greaves yet.

Some people are just gamers.
In reply to tc1
Jones need an attitude adjustment. He cannot walk out there defeated then proceed to let the bowlers dictate to him.
In reply to tc1
Jones, is similar to your favourite club, batsman Renaldo Parris.
He being a star at Maple, never develop into a 1st class batsman.
I have more faith in the youth program, than the BCA Elite/1st Division program.
The Elite/1st Division program, does very little to develop good sound cricketers.
How many elite cricketer are on any team, in the two divisions?
Jones is a star at his club, can be an average cricketer, and still at the end of the year, be selected for a Barbados team.
In reply to seaegg99
I would not had posted that clip
How many rings is on that guy's finger.
In reply to openning
Nothing to do with rings. Still a great player. Some great practice players cannot perform under the lights,
In reply to openning
Jones can bat period,he made the most runs in the regional u19 in 2014, he needs to settle down.
In reply to openning
Listen Parris was not my favorite player, My friend RIP in Sam, told me Parris was afraid of fast bowling.
he is a decent coach
In reply to seaegg99
He was a great player, but not a good leader.
I put that Video and this, by two great players, in the dumpster.

In reply to tc1
I watched Jones scoring his double century back then and expected more, He is batting scared now though. He is not trusting his talent while Springer does.
In reply to tc1
If Jones wanted to show his development, we would have seen it.
This is a guy that scored 2 (100) and 5(50) in 2015, none since, he will have to change a number of things to become a better cricketer.
Aaron Jones batting stats
Springer's spot on the team
was blocked by both Greaves and Stoute the two leading allrounders in the Pride
2018 Four Day Tournament
Greaves bat avg 399 @ 30.69 4 50s
bowling 18 wickets @ 29.00
Stoute bat avg 284 @23.66 1 50
bowling 16 wickets @ 26.93
but Springer outperformed Greaves in the Super 50 taking the most wickets (16 at avg 14.81) for Pride and avg 31.75 in eight matches. Greaves didn't take no wickets in his 7 matches and avg 11.42 with the bat. Stoute was not picked.
Now Greaves again starts in front Springer but having performed poorly again...Springer now gets his FC start and now they is no looking back!
any comment on Carter's captaincy? Springer Mindley and Stoute did the bulk of the bowling...Nurse got in just 8 overs of spin the whole match!
In reply to analyst-kid
The only problem with Greaves, is selecting him as a batsman, knowing full well, he did not bowled during the local season.
There is money to be made for him, he just need to up his game.
In reply to analyst-kid
My problem is there are playing guys by position instead of on talent. Spinger's bat should be in there just alone. He walks out there and you want to see him perform. WI cricket needs this badly

Charisma
In reply to seaegg99
I first saw Springs as a 12 y/o playing U13 cricket. What strikes me then is the same thing today. He has zero fear of any situation and just plays his cricket expecting one result, to win.
It seems that he has been cast so far as a short form player but he has the ability to transcend all forms and the mentality to be a real superstar. I wish this lad the very best because his success is to his own, BIM's and WI's benefit.
Despite the victory,Barbados batting is still very weak because of the consistent failures of your three top bats...Moseley,Alleyne and Jones.
I cannot see how Primus could sit for them.
In reply to analyst-kid
I agree the batting is fragile, what about Jonathan Drakes in the middle, Primus is a allrounder , you have Springer,Stoute and Greaves.
In reply to tc1
If the specialist bats are not emerging with runs and confidence then the seasoned allrounder must play.
In the 1960s to early 1970s a Barbados squad comprised of just 4 specialist bats, Sobers and three to four allrounders including Holford,Shepherd wkpr Murray,Howard and Boyce.

Jonathan Drakes doesnt even avg 40+ in Domestic cricket Text
you have to put in the name in the stats window
openning is correct...you have to go forward with the youngster Shian Brathwaite..expose him to FC cricket.
He avgs 54.57 with 382 runs in 8 innings and a highest score of 148 in the Sagicor Cup.

In reply to analyst-kid
6 of 1, 1/2 doz of the other, take your pick , it slim , we have a man who scored thousands every year in the elite, but can't make 20 at the regional.
why i said Drakes, he made a good knock in the OD recently.
Shian scored runs, but he defense looks suspect, very aerial.but give him the chance, he may get lucky.

So Primus places third in your domestic batting averages with 60.11 with three centuries, has played at FC before and can't get a play in front Alleyne and Jones who are failing at FC level?
Just like TCL you are discriminating a guy becuz he is an allrounder even though he trumps them locally and regionally batting wise!
In reply to openning
on another note Kenroy Williams scores 36 not out and carries Jamaica to victory and their first win this season!
last year Greaves and Williams held the Pride's batting together over and over in the absence of the test players!
In reply to analyst-kid
Bim selectors are so shortsighted. A player is a player all we do is try to pigeon hole people all the time. Primus batting is getting so much better and he is a young dude also. Many are not improving and those who are might not have the name recognition. That is the stuff shirt Bajan way. You should be looking for players from wherever they come from.
In reply to seaegg99
The problem with the cricket is devalue of the product.
Whoever decided to have an Elite division, competing with the 1st division, need to reexamine that program.
All the promotion and emotion done, is to give fans/clubs some bragging rights.
Aaron Jones, Springer, the Hope brothers, Dowrich should all be playing in the Elite division
In reply to openning
what are you saying, I bet you the guys that are bat top of this year will not appear in 2019, these runs don't mean much.
Kyle pile up tons of runs and can't make 20 in regionals.
you too caught up with numbers, the net catch is weak
In reply to tc1...so pray tell what should be used to pick players?
In reply to natty_forever
That's a tough question, since our guys performed at the regionals, and failed constantly at the internationals.
Academies
U 19, u25 and A tours
Include 2 overseas players to our fc
more grass roots supports in lean time.
hired the appropriate professionals and support staff.
Pray, Pray , Pray
Kyle pile up tons of runs and can't make 20 in regionals.
you too caught up with numbers, the net catch is weak
Drakes and Jones stats represents yearly performances in all formats of cricket their played.
Not everyone who perform at one level is successful at another, Devon Smith, Peter Lashley, Easton McMorris are three that, showed proof to this.
If you can list players that did not perform consistently at the local level in Barbados, and then became world cricketers, it maybe a topic that need to be debated.
Sir Everton Weekes Centre for excellence is an academy
In reply to tc1 I think we should wait on a player playing a few (3) seasons before a look in, too many one season swallows!
In reply to natty_forever
agreed, and cast the net wider since our system is weak
In reply to openning
I agreed with you on the first part of the sentence , and especially since we have a weak system must cast the net wider to make up for this deficiency.
however , you can compare a Lashley or McMorris with Smith since Smith played 43 matches to Lashley 4 and Mcmorris 13.
Smith is a chronic failure at the test level.McMorris is questionable, but 4 test matches is not enough to be label a test failure.
Garry Sobers and Rohan Kanhai would not hh mark.ave made it as batting greats if 4 matches were the bench mark
In reply to tc1
I included Lashley as a point, to show, not only was he a dominant cricketer in the BCA, he was also good at the regional level, but was out of his dept, the games he played for the West Indies.
You can also look at Graeme Hick and Mark Ramprakash.
You listed two guys that should be selected, that have not scored any runs in years.
Jonathan Drakes last ton was 109 in 2013, playing for the youth team and five fifties in the last 5 years playing for Wanderers.
Aaron Jones scored one fifty in 2013, playing for Bdos Youth , and 2 tons and 3 fifties in 2015, playing for Wildeys.
Can you imagine how players like Young Lara feel?
Barbados' selectors have stifled too many players over the years in supporting player power to maintain established cliques in support of Board and Committee appointments. In recent times we have seen it with the captaincy "dilemma" as with many of the individual picks.
In which other country would you see young talent like Shian Brathwaite and Shamar Springer be on the side lines until they virtually become stale? These two, Chemar Holder, Keon Harding, Roshon Primus, Nicholas Kirton all have the talent and mentality to play FC cricket, certainly at the expense of many of the repeated failures and even including some of the underperforming "Test" stars.
We either don't recognize ability or we like to maintain the status quo. In life, we are only as good as our most recent performances. Apart from Shian and Shamar, there is young Camari Boyce who has outperformed all of his Caribbean peers at regional U19s for the past 2 seasons but yet doesn't even get a speculative look by Young West Indies. At the local Elite level, he is easily one of the best slow bowlers on show, but yet others get scholarships, placements and get picked and actually play and bowl at Senior Trials. Who is in this young man's corner?
It really all boggles the mind. You get the impression that this cricket thing is about preserving employment for friends and acquaintances and their family and associates at the expense of all others. Lord help you if you not part of the clique. Its the same at West Indies. The "new" Interim Coach comes in and low and behold two men out and he bring back his good friend and we want to know why everyone is so disenchanted with it all?
I was repeating myself.
In reply to mkcharles
You are preaching to this choir boy.
In reply to openning
...and meanwhile the ones on the inside seem to be immune to the derogative and insulting comments coming from the established nations about the administration and on field performance of our cricket.
As a people, when did we become so ambivalent? Do we no longer have a sense of pride? This really is a case of, "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"
