He could be gone for a while. Is the extras from FIPL in danger?

Hope he's a quick healer and his injury is not too serious.

Philip M McCart: "From his reaction, that's a GRADE 3 quadricep strain ... surgery is more likely than a return by tea. Sorry Paul." It's all speculation right now, but yes, he did look in serious bother

West Indies announced soon afterwards that Paul had suffered a right quadriceps strain, and later said he had been sent for scans, along with Darren Bravo, who did not take to the field all day after injuring his finger earlier in the match.

Neither have been ruled out from returning to action as yet, although in Paul's case that may be optimistic. Full recoveries can take six weeks or more, which would rule him out of the one-day leg of England's visit too.

West Indies' injury worries may not be over just yet, with Shannon Gabriel appearing to be nursing a tight hamstring with his workload increased in his team-mate's absence.

Quadriceps injury facts

- The quadriceps is made up of four muscles that are located on the front of the thigh.
-The muscle is responsible for flexing the hip and extending or straightening the knee.

Injuries may include the following:
- Contusion from a direct blow
-Strain from overuse
-Partial tear of the muscle
-Tendinitis (inflammation of the tendon)
-Tendinosis (degeneration and scarring of the tendon from -repetitive injury)
-Tendon rupture
-Compartment syndrome from increased pressure due to bleeding from a contusion, crush injury, or fracture

The diagnosis of most quadriceps injures can be made at the bedside.
- Treatment most often involves RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation), and sometimes physical therapy is needed to help regain range of motion and muscle strength.
- Surgery may be needed to repair tendon ruptures, muscle herniation, and to relieve compartment syndrome.

In reply to Narper

Me thinks he had a quad niggle before.

He was clocking 140 in his debut test, since then he's been 130ish.

He’s young and very talented.

Best for him to recover fully than to rush back and risk chronic injury

If that means missing this year’s IPL, so be it. Given his talent, there will undoubtedly be future IPL opportunities
