Is it the word or the person spreading the word?

When you look at the top TV ministries, are they successful because they are spreading the word or, are they just good at what they do?

In other words, would they be just as successful if the spoke about business or anything other than religion?

Are they just good at inspiration, regardless of topic?

I am talking about TD Jakes and Osteen, specifically.

It's like black and white comparison right there.

TD is just good, while Osteen is just living off his (father's) inheritance.

Nothing against Joel, btw. He has good delivery also.

Charisma is an undeniable element in snake oil sales.

These (above mentioned) are men who preach "the word god" and get very wealthy doing so.

At times, the ethos of these "preachers" can be defined as uplifting and saving/transforming the souls of the lost... and at other times self-serving bitches that exemplify hypocrisy, exploitative and selfish sheep/wolf vultures that take advantage of the vulnerable.

This dichotomy of character is not an indictment of what they do or how they do it, and as long as you know up front - the program and agenda, these salesmen can be of great value to many.

Televangelists and TV preachers don't help people. They are greedy money eyed ruthless businessmen/women who revel in preying on mostly poor desperate and vulnerable people.

They have the best gig and con game in town: sell the invisible product.

And the profits? Tax free. cool

Some of these pastors are able to use their speaking styles to garner considerable influence and following. I think their own convictions have allowed them to make rousing and stirring performances.

And surely their skills are translatable into political, community leadership and business.

People often fail to realize these preachers are men and not God.

They are very inspiring. TD Jakes could just be a motivational speaker similar to a Les Brown.

I think they have to be great speakers first.
