Instead of pointing out that the link in today's Newsday was an error, you prefer to instead label Sgtjones: as a "no credibility asshole."
You never stopped for one minute to check whether it was the Newsday which made the error and that the poster merely provided the erroneous link.

The life and death of 'Dumb Dumb' the pest

A MENACE to the community of Borde Narve Village in Princes Town was how Curtis James was described by relatives and villagers.

James was one of two people killed in an alleged shoot-out with police officers on Wednesday following the robbery of Tiana’s Jewellery Store in Couva. The other person killed was Kevon Simmons, 16 of Concerned Citizens Street.

The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has since initiated an investigation into the shooting.

According to relatives the Express spoke with yesterday, James was not the “good boy” that he was made out to be by some.

A female relative, who asked not to be named, said James had a habit of stealing which began during his primary school days.

The woman said he started his life of crime stealing from immediate family, which then escalated to the wider community.

James, 20, was said to have had heart condition and a speech impediment. He did not go to therapy for his condition. The relative said despite his disabilities, some family members did try to encourage James to give up a life of crime which he promised to do.

The relative said that while James’s death was a tragic loss to the family, no one could deny that he found himself in trouble with many people.

The Susan Maynard mystery

SIX MONTHS ago, Susan Maynard took a deep breath and stepped out of her home. She had told her family she was walking to the parlour next door to buy a phone card in the shop.

Instead, she just kept walking.

That was September 4, 2018.

And as Maynard walked further and further away from her home at Charlieville, not even stopping at the store, the neighbours who saw her did not have a clue that she would be gone, maybe forever.

Maynard had been diagnosed with depression two years earlier and had been prescribed medication for her illness.

Her mother, Clarissa Jones, said that within the first hour and she did not see her come home, she knew something was wrong.

Chaguanas taxi driver killed

Relatives of 37-year-old private hire (PH) driver Ian Joseph, aka “Taliban,” are calling for answers after his body was found with stab and chop wounds in a vacant lot in Longdenville, Chaguanas, on Friday evening.

Relatives at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday said Joseph was working for money to buy diapers for his infant daughter when he was confronted by three men who they believe tried to rob him.

During the confrontation, Joseph was stabbed and ran away from his car, a silver Versa, but the men chased him and caught up with him at an abandoned lot, where he died from blood loss after he tried hiding from them.

Relatives said police were called but found only his abandoned car. After two hours of searching, Joseph’s bloodied body was found by relatives who did a search of their own.

Speaking with Newsday, one relative said Joseph was well-liked and respected in the community and may have known his attackers, as he offered them a drop and seldom offered rides to strangers.

They also said his father, Henry Joseph was killed last month, but were not sure if the killings were related.

“He was very loving and kind. He would try and help others as best as he could. He never went around looking for trouble, but he would do anything to defend himself and his family,” one relative said.

Carenage gangland
Gunmen shoot at each other…

ONGOING war in Carenage which in the past year resulted in at least five men being killed, triggered a massive joint police and Defence Force exercise yesterday.

The lawmen swarmed Upper Haig Street and Abbe Poujade Street looking for gunmen, who residents said, began shooting indiscriminately for over three minutes before police arrived. Both streets intersect at a point called Fresco Junction. The rapid gunfire forced regiment, coast guard and various units of the police service to descend on Carenage arresting two, searching several homes, but recovering no weapons. One of the homes searched according to residents, belonged to a member of the Coast Guard who was not at home at the time.

The uncle of one of the men arrested, who identified himself only as Jason, told the media that the two of them were at home listening to music when his nephew stopped playing and alerted him to the gunshots. Jason had earlier pointed out three bullet holes in his home, one in his front door and two on the roof. After the shooting police came to his house and arrested his nephew.

43 SEX CHARGES
Chinese man, Venezuelan woman in court

SPECIAL arrangements were made at two prisons last night to accept a couple, who at 6.45 pm, left the Port of Spain Magistrates’ court after facing 43 charges stemming from what police have dubbed the “sex ring case.”

The couple, according to police, are Solieht Torres, 23, of Venezuela and her Chinese-born, Guyanese raised boyfriend Jinfu Zhu, appeared before magistrate Marissa Gomez. Zhu, who speaks Mandarin, had the charges translated to him by Carol Williams, while Torres relied on Joanna Boca, to translate what was said to Spanish.

Zhu was taken to the Port of Spain Prison while Torres was taken to the Women’s Prison at Golden Grove, Arouca. The charges all stem from a two-day long police raid on February 5 and 6, in connection with the discovery of 19 Venezuelans – three teenage girls and 16 women, between the ages of 15 and 19. The Venezuelans were rescued from several locations including a house at 61, Western Circle, Westmoorings.

This house is owned by Edward Aboud and was leased to Zhu for over $20,000 monthly, police said. Senior police sources said they are still searching for a man believed to be in Suriname in relation to the alleged prostitution ring as he is believed to be the mastermind.

at this rate we gonna have much less than 30 murders this month, just as I predicted..

So far 10 in 16 days..0 in 3 days (again) and carnival long gone.. ...now that's a positive trend in a country with sooooo many guns and sooooo many idiots..

Criminals are being caught during and right after the act due to sub 5 min response times across the board, even in South, the word is spreading, strategies and new methods are working..

The police service is being sanitized..

Everything I said is being proven already, while all fools can do is highlight the next and sadly inevitable murder ..

There are going to be many more murders reported here, but this month's toll is going to be one of the lowest in recent times, and this year's toll is going to be waay less than last year..

Progress..

Gary: Cops outnumber criminals

POLICE officers outnumber criminals in Trinidad and Tobago and will continue to infiltrate and put an end to any turf war in any part of the country, says Police Commissioner Gary Griffith.

The commissioner said his officers are ready and up to the task at hand to ensure the criminal element does not, in any way, affect the freedom of movement and rights of law-abiding citizens.

“The Police Service is not afraid of anything. We are very aware of situations and we are giving advice to law-abiding citizens that when these punks, these creeps, decide to feel that they can just fire indiscriminately at other gang members, and again, this is where you have those unfortunate words of collateral damage, where law-abiding citizens could actually be hit,” said Griffith.

He was speaking during an interview on radio station i95.5 FM yesterday regarding the ongoing gang war between members of the Rasta City and Muslim gangs in Carenage over the past few days that saw a series of shooting incidents that has left some men injured.

'Creating stronger communities’

COMMISSIONER of Police Gary Griffith wants to keep guns out of the hands of young people.

He wants them to stay away from crime, and instead focus on developing their sporting talents and building their communities.

As the murder toll crossed over 100 for the year so far, Griffith is hoping another, different kind of approach will help turn young people away from a life of crime. He’s hoping young people will battle on the football field and not the streets of Trinidad and Tobago, following the launch of the Commissioner’s Cup football competition yesterday.

He was unable to make the transition from wanted criminal when he was on the police radar for his thieving ways, to an upstanding citizen trying to earn an honest dollar.

James was known in his community of Borde Narve Village in Princes Town as a menace, accused of crimes like petty theft and home invasions.

But when he moved to Railway Road in Couva things slowly began changing.

James met mother-of-six, Ayanna Andrews, a woman almost twice his age.

3 cops in custody for rape of 16-year-old mom

TWO police officers wanted in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at a lime at a police inspector’s house, have surrendered to police.

The officers – a constable, aged 40, and an acting corporal, aged 41 – turned themselves in at the Sangre Grande police station over the weekend.

Last week, the police inspector at whose house the lime was held, was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault.

The offences were allegedly committed on March 15.

It alleged that at the lime, the teenager stole the inspector’s firearm and ammunition, gold chain and wallet.

The 55-year-old police inspector, who is on pre-retirement leave, reported that at around 10.30 p.m. he took his police-issued Sig Sauer pistol, 14 rounds of ammunition and his wallet and went into his bedroom.

He reported that he placed the items under his pillow.

He awoke less than an hour later, he said, and the items were missing.

Time to get serious about the murders

THE EDITOR: Murders are out of control in this country, and getting worse every day. People are saying that all over the world there is crime and that we are only “bringing down” the country. That may be true but it’s no excuse for our high out-of-control crime rate.

TT has about 1.4 million people, about the same as Long Island in New York City, and for the year so far there have been more than 170 murders here. There are many countries with populations four times the size of TT and they do not have the number of murders we have in this little country.

The city of London in England, for instance, with a population of 8.788 million, has only had 46 murders this year – and they are concerned and upset because it could surpass New York, which has 50 murders so far.

This little two-by-four country there have been more that 170 murders and people continue to talk nonsense.

The truth needs to be told. The reality is terrible and shameful. It shows that the authorities do not have a grip on the crime situation.

They are powerless and weak. There is no plan for combatting the murders. All the billions of dollars spent over the years have not had positive results.

Look at Singapore with a population of 5.7 million. In 2017 its murder rate was about 16 and there have been no murders so far this year. Its said that the crime rate in Singapore is so low that shops do not even have to lock their door. Of course they have tens of thousand of cameras all over the city so it would be foolish for someone to commit a crime.

China has a surveillance network of over 170 million CCTV cameras.

The authorities there were able to catch a wanted man in a crowd of 60,000 people. Why can’t we do that here? Put cameras all over the country.

Forget the highway to Manzanilla. Money is being spent in the wrong places.

No government has ever had one solution for the crime problem. Talk and more talk and nothing behind it. The criminals know there are no consequences when they commit a crime.

Do you know that we are No 13 in the world among countries with the highest murder rates? What a shame. It’s time the authorities come up with positive crime-fighting solutions because nothing they try is working. The criminals are wining all the time.

The Government has to get rid of the rotten apples in the system. Time to take crime fighting to another level. It starts by improving the relevant technology. Too much time has been wasted. Let’s get serious about reducing the murders and crime generally and send a strong message to the criminals.

Murdered teen told teacher, ‘Don’t forget me, Sir’

A TEACHER at St Jude’s Home for Girls in Port of Spain, Kevin Peters, gave a moving speech about his former student Netanya Mohambally, 17, when he spoke at her funeral yesterday.
“Mr Peters, don’t forget me, Sir,” were the last words he heard from Mohambally, whom he described as dedicated and committed.

Peters last saw her the day before her 17th birthday, two weeks ago.
“One must be 17 to apply for a nursing licence, and she came with her mother to remind the school’s secretary to register her name so that she can start her course in nursing in September.”

The last word of this once successful student echoed in Peters' ears when news broke that she had been murdered. Peters cried and had to be consoled by fellow teachers from St Jude's.

The funeral took place at Guide's Funeral Home Main Road, Couva. Among those present were other teachers, counsellors, students and friends from St Jude's.

Why the PNM Colm IMbert giving Commissioner GaryG a hard time?

Griffith told the committee, “What I am trying to get now is $47 million to pay off bills that the TTPS owes debtors, approved in fiscal 2017-18 to pay off bills from December 2017-December 2018. I have not even started getting funds for 2018-2019.”

Link
But then Moonilal asked if Imbert was aware that "at this time the TTPS cannot pay TSTT bills, cannot pay landlords where police stations are located and some of the project money has also gone for recurrent expenditure and some of the projects that are critically needed at this time can be impaired."

Imbert replied: "No, Madam Speaker. That has all the hallmarks of fake news."
