Alex Trebek has stage four

Chrissy 2019-03-06 17:32:14

pancreatic cancer. That is horrific.
I wish him the best.

The 78-year-old broke the news in a video message Wednesday.

"I have some news to share with all of you, and it's in keeping with my longtime policy of being open and transparent with our Jeopardy fan base," Trebek says. "I also wanted to prevent you from reading or hearing some overblown or inaccurate reports regarding my health. So therefore, I wanted to be the one to pass along this information. Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer."

Stage 4 cancer means the disease has spread to other parts of the body. The cancer typically can't be cured at that stage, but it can be treated.

That is the one cancer that you can not prevent or detect early or do anything about. The NOTORIOUS RBG, Ruth Bader-Ginsburg has had pancreatic cancer for almost a decade now but her story is highly unusual.

correct. Pancreatic cancer is as bad as it gets. The lifespan after diagnosis is not usually long. i think Jobs tried some experimental stuff in India or somewhere but it doesnt seem that much can slow it.

The worst cancer. Took out my favorite uncle at just over age 50.

One of my good friend survived prostate cancer. In November 2013 i heard he was in hospital suffering with cancer again. I went to visit him and said don't worry man, you can beat this again. He looked at me and said no Richie, i am facked this time. He died of pancreatic cancer in January of the following year.

Sad.

We all gotto go one day, but still a bummer.

Hope he doesn't suffer too much pain.

Hard to diagnose until late.

Also killed Christopher Hitchens, this is as bad as it gets..he's 78 not bad batting as it is,if he makes it to 80 he would have done well,we all have to go sometime and I would take 78-80 anytime..Good luck to a true professional and gentleman..

I don't usually watch sitcoms but I would look forward to Jeopardy every night, till my rocket scientist son at 13 started getting double the amount of answers that this until then "genius" was getting.
lol

Father-in-law diagnosed in June—he died last week. Mother-in-law’s sister diagnosed in August—she is waiting on the inevitable.

What I found interesting was the differences in the symptoms, which I understand is based on where on the pancreas it starts.

Apparently Steve Jobs had a rare form of pancreatic cancer and he could have lived much longer if he had followed more conventional treatment methods.

Indeed, glad this thread was posted. Trebek is maybe *the* greatest and most respected game show host icon over the past 50 years and I think tons of people are wishing him the best here.

Best wishes to him.

Alex looks as fit and healthy as anyone I've seen who is 78 yo.

Just goes to show how Cancer can & will take you down.

One thing I read tho... when you're on your death bed, the one thing you will NOT say, is that 'I wish I had worked more in my life.'

Perhaps, at that point in time, you will say quite the opposite, 'I wish I had worked less, travel more, spent more time with family & friends, etc.'

bitter and hard pill to swallow... but it's the truth... and we must not deny it.... the longer we take to realize it... the less time we get to do the things in life that reward us with the joy we strive for.

Yeah. There's a concern nowadays about stress from being overworked, trying to pay bills, etc., it's easier said than done but we (generally speaking) should ensure we have the time to do the things that bring us joy and happiness.
