A late change for West Indies after the toss. Ashley Nurse dislocated his finger and has been replaced by Devendra Bishoo

Narper 2019-03-08 14:44:51

'It's a belter', says Jason Holder as he wins the toss and opts to bowl. Just one change for them, Obed McCoy replaces the rested Oshane Thomas.

Narper 2019-03-08 14:45:41

What to expect:
Lots of runs are likely to be on offer considering that the venue provided batting-friendly wickets during the Caribbean Premier League. It is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 26 degree Celsius.

Discourse 2019-03-08 14:55:19

Oh, there you are Narps wink

I see McCoy in for Thomas

Narper 2019-03-08 14:57:06

'The pitch is very hard and even, good for batting. The captains need to be tactful regarding bowling changes, should be another run-fest', says Darren Ganga, in his pitch report

0.3
Cottrell to Bairstow, 3 runs, a run-out chance, but Hope didn't collect the ball cleanly, would have had Hales in heaps of trouble had he did so. Average cricket all-around, full-toss on Bairstow's pads and he worked it to the right of mid-on, the fielder tumbled over the ball and let it slip through. There was a slight misunderstanding on the third run and that nearly cost Hales his wicket

1.1
Holder to Hales, 1 run, short and just outside off, Hales stands tall and punches it behind square on the off-side for a single

Narper 2019-03-08 15:07:42

Holder to Bairstow, FOUR, to third man, edged and four, on a good length and well wide of off, had Bairstow chasing it with hard hands, gets a thick edge that runs away through the vacant region past Gayle at slip

Cottrell to Bairstow, out Caught by Bishoo!! That's a sharp catch at short third man and out comes Cottrell's salute. On a good length and angling across the right-hander, had Bairstow flashing and found a thick outside edge - was flying and to his right, but Bishoo dives across, goes with both hands and held on

Bairstow c Bishoo b Cottrell 12(8 ) [4s-2]

Fabian Allen to Hales, SIX, to long-off

Narper 2019-03-08 15:16:12

3.2
Fabian Allen to Hales, out Caught by Brathwaite!! Six and out for Hales! This was flighted around middle, Hales went down low on the sweep, doesn't get fully on top of the ball - the result is a thick top-edge, high and looping over square leg. Brathwaite circles around the ball and completes the catch. Not the start England wanted, but the hosts are enjoying it for now.

4.1
Brathwaite to Morgan, out Caught by Shai Hope!! Morgan has been strangled down the leg-side, it's going from bad to worse for England. On a length and slanting down, Morgan was looking to help it on its way, just a gentle tickle - went low and to the right of Hope, who dived and completed a two-handed catch.

Fabian Allen to Denly, out Bowled!! Chopped on! England are in disarray at the moment, this waspushed through flatter and quicker, Denly made room for the cut, went with hard hands on the shot and dragged it back onto the middle-stump - off the bottom-edge.

Good spell of bowling by Fabian Allen.

Bishoo pitching it on a nice length and line, with a nice loop too.

Oops! The Bishoo long hop comes into play now. Four more to Eng!

Bishoo's 2nd over goes for 11, the most expensive for WI thus far.

no obed yet ,,, wondering if they think he will be more effective with Batsmen who have never seen him before being under pressure to get him away in the final overs ?

Drapsey 2019-03-08 15:49:04

Is this the Real McCoy?

...
Just couldn't resist!

Norm 2019-03-08 15:53:39

Nice length from Obed in his first over. Six runs from it.

Norm 2019-03-08 16:01:17

Obed bowling too short on off. Nicely guided to the boundary 3 times by Root, who quietly reaches his 50, in 36 balls.
One's over for 16 is now the most expensive of the innings.

Drapsey 2019-03-08 16:02:39

I guess he's not the Real McCoy.

Who's next!

Norm 2019-03-08 16:06:14

Billings runs out Root, thanks to an awesome return from Allen at long on to the keeper.

Norm 2019-03-08 16:08:39

In reply to Drapsey

The man making his debut. What if he comes back and cleans up the opposition?

Billings sweeps Cotterel from outside off to square leg for 4. Incredible shot!

Barbrady1 2019-03-08 16:08:53

Allen is some fielder.

Norm 2019-03-08 16:12:24

Hety overruns the ball at long on and it runs away to the boundary for 4! Cottrell glares at him. Billings moves to 50 now - also off 36 balls.
This Cotterel over goes for 18, now the most expensive of the innings.

Norm 2019-03-08 16:18:23

18th over, from Holder, goes for 6 only.
Eng 138-5 in 18 overs. Carlos B to bowl.
Billings scoops him from outside off to fine leg for 4! Edges the next for 4 more, to fine leg again! Wide, next. 9 from the 1st 3 balls.
19 off this over.
Eng 160-5 in 19 overs.
Obed to bowl the last over. Why?

Norm 2019-03-08 16:25:56

SIX off the first ball, full on middle.
FOUR off the second, to 3rd man.

Allen is a good man in any team.

Hety drops an easy one now. SIX off the now. And 4 more! Caught behind, last ball, but 22 off the over.

Why did Holder bowl Obed in the last over?

Eng 182-6 in 20 overs. Billings 87.

6.51pm Right, let's have some presentations. Here's Jason Holder. "It's one of those games, it's been our worst batting performance, but we've had more good days than England in this series [Tests and ODIs included]. The energy in the field was excellent, the last four overs we didn't execute our skills as we would have liked. We've got to get ourselves attuned to the T20 game. There's still pride to play for, the whole purpose of keeping this squad together was to build towards the World Cup."

Sam Billings is Player of the Match for his innings-saving 87. "It was a nice situation that I could give myself some time, then cash in at the end. A strong bottom hand and close your eyes! Play the field and put pressure on the bowlers by hitting 360. It came off today."

Eoin Morgan: "Our biggest improvement has been that we've adapted to conditions very well. Backs against the wall at 30 for 4, the partnership was outstanding, and we grabbed hold of momentum."

Pick a test team for test and ODI team for ODIs and a T20 team for T20s. Pybus has what experience in this format ?
