Sloane who?
In reply to Chrissy
Sloane's biggest sin is beating your goddess
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Osaka in the crosshairs too?
In reply to nick2020
I know
In reply to Chrissy
Sometimes players dont want to be at certain tournaments
Not saying Stephens didnt legitimately get beaten by the way
BIg match tomorrow.....Felix vs Tsitsipas

Will be watching

What a joke - I was the first person here to predict that Naomi would win slams.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Nah - when she thought she was better than an injured Serena - I don't deal wid peeps who have no respect for their betters.
Serena is the most decorated tennis player in the Open era - male or female.
Let us be clear - Sloane is no Serena Williams.
In reply to Chrissy
Against Serena?
In reply to nick2020
Naomi beat Serena before the summer slams last year. Some of us actually watch tennis outside of the slams.
Serena, like every great athlete will eventually lose - age gets the best of them.
She will be remembered as the most decorated of both genders.
Those of us who followed or are following her entire career (and knew greatness when we saw it) will have wonderful memories of one of the greatest sporting family stories of all times.
Her parents tore up the elitist script forever and many of those white working class Eastern Europeans and others have benefited from the script.
As a student and academic in the discipline of sports, politics and society, I can tell you that the Williams family are or will be in every text book.
Naomi has all the talent - does she have the heart, guts or discipline like Serena?
We shall see, but if we've heard the entire story of the parting with her coach, the signs aren't too good.
Say what now?
In reply to Devin
Say whatever? She has more slams than Federer - fact.
In reply to Chrissy
Federer has 100 singles titles. Serena isn't even in the same zip code.
Serena isn't even loved in the US, and has NEVER been a fan favourite.
Roger Federer is by far and away the most revered, the most loved, and the most celebrated tennis player of all time.
He is also the sports greatest ambassador.
When i tell you it isn't close, believe me, she's not on the same planet. This is like having a serious debate as to who is a better batsman; Brian Lara or Marlon Samuels.
In reply to Chrissy
...so how many Margaret Court has?
In reply to Chrissy
Finally you are admitting Serena could be a male!!
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Open era and for the record this only came up when Serena got too close.
In reply to Devin
This is not popularity contest here bro - these are the tennis facts. No ther player in the open era has 23 slams - mek dat mad allyuh haterz. A big bodied African-American woman from Compton, California is leading the pack in the Open era.
It sweet me yuh see
Actually, it is a bit of a popularity contest. Because if you win a bunch of titles and people don't talk about you, then you're never really in the conversation and your accomplishments go unheralded.
Federer - 100 singles titles.
Serena - 100 titles combined(singles, doubles, mixed doubles, Fed Cup, Hopman Cup).
Fed also had 8 doubles titles which includes a Gold Medal.
The fact of the matter is, Serena matters to black people. Their isn't a country in this world where she is more respected or loved than Federer.
Also, when all is said and done, Fed played in an era where his two greatest rivals will go down as two of the top 5 greatest tennis players of all time.
Serena played in an era with Sharapova. There was no Graf, Evert, Navratilova. There wasn't even someone who consistently won when Serena was injured, sick, or knocked out early. Perhaps Henin, that's about it.

First set and a break to Felix. This 18 year old een easy a blow wow- early days still!
This is his first match against a top ten player.
Double break lead in the 2nd
6-4; 5-2.
Serving fi di match.
Game, set and match Felix - amazing
In reply to Chrissy
Hail Felix!!! Felix is the real deal
Felix was mostly on his game today. Tsitsipas wasnt at his best
Interesting stat. Commentators said that coming into this match, Tsitsipas had lost 7 of 8 sets to Felix on the previous occasions they played each other. Looks like Tsitsipas has always had trouble with Felix
In reply to imusic
The kid 'gats' game.Physically he reminds me of Ashe.
In reply to Chrissy
One shot in particular from felix was amazing
Tsitsipas serving down 2-4 and 15-30 in the 2nd set. Rally ends up with Tsitsipas hitting a patented backhand to the ad side of the court with Felix standing on the deuce side.
Felix gets to the ball with a short sprint and then one MASSIVE stride to the left, plants the left foot, and hits a backhand tracer bullet down the line beyond Tsitsipas despairing lunge.
The only other player Ive seen do something similar is Djoka. Impressive!
Giron looks like a player. Has defensive specialist de Minaur running all over the court.
de Minaur making some incredible gets, which is a staple of his game, but Giron impressive in not losing his composure and just keeps painting those corners.
In reply to Devin
Who was in Margaret Court's era?
In reply to imusic
Stunning upset dat
Down goes Madison Keys, one more second tier player.
Stewwwwwwwwwwps
Monfils looking good 4-1 3rd set.
Venus coming up - hard match dis one with Kvitova
In reply to Chrissy
You have time dealing people who love denigrating black people and telling stories how any time a black person reaches the pinnacle or achieves something great, they didn't deserve it. It's always the usual suspects on this board.
Serena played against more than just 2 accomplished competitors. All you hearing is Feder this, Nadal that and Djoka these...or whatever.
With Serena, it's Venus, Sharapova, Davenport, Henin, Klijsters, Capriati etc etc. That's not 'competition'? If Serena only had to worry about two players throughout her entire career, maybe she'd have 30 by now. Just maybe. Many ways to look at this.
True, she and Graf met when Steffi was on her way out.
Not even going to bring up her contributing to running Swiss Miss, the cerebral one, out of tennis. Boom Boom.
PS: Does Graf win that many if Seles isn't stabbed?
In reply to JahJah
Nice post bro - leff dem fi true

Career Winning Percentage
Maybe if one wants to analyze someone's career we should look at that person's entire career? Instead of just looking at slams? Cuz just looking at slams is the kind of kindergarten analysis you would accuse me of and throw in a 2020 joke.
But I would defer to Devin. I heard he was a world beating tennis player in Bim
Kvitova won the first set 6-4. Venus just took the 2nd 7-5.
4-4
Venus 4-6, 7-5, 6-4
Great win
In reply to Chrissy
How the hell would I know who was in Margaret Court's era? Must be the same people in Bradman's era. I never said anything about Court.
What i know is that from the late 60's into the 90's, Women's tennis enjoyed its best years, with some of its greatest champions.
Evonne Goolagong, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles.
In reply to Devin
You have already said you don't like Serena.
The simple truth is she has won more slams than everyone in the Open era.
In reply to Dan_De_Lyan
Lol. Serena would have been great in any era, and most likely the best. Her power off the ground and her serve would've been too difficult a proposition to overcome for most, if not all her opponents.
In reply to Devin
You know your sports- we agree on dat but yuh nuh like Serena's game. I understand you and you're not one of the fools here, but yuh biased over the game you want over results. Slams are the big games.
In reply to Chrissy
Bill Russell is an 11-time NBA Champion. That's five more Championships than Michael Jordan. Bill Russell is rarely, if ever, referred to as the greatest Basketball player. He isn't the most celebrated or decorated player either.
For women's tennis, Billie Jean King probably deserves that title more than anyone else. She's accomplished so much on and off the court.
In 1972, she was the joint winner, with John Wooden, of the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award and was one of the Time Persons of the Year in 1975.
She has also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year lifetime achievement award. She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 1990, and in 2006, the USTA National Tennis Center in New York City was renamed the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. In 2018, she won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award.
In reply to Devin
Team v individual sport but I get yuh point
By the way no student of sports does not acknowledge Billie-Jean's place in tennis but it goes way beyond on the field matters.
In reply to Chrissy
Serena is the greatest Slam Champion, no doubt about that. I just think when you combine everything in terms of success, popularity, likability, sportsmanship, etc etc, she falls behind a few of those that came before her.
No one can really dispute what she did on the court.
In reply to Devin
When I think of what she and her parents achieved in this elitist sport, I don't worry about the combinations. I just ignore the haterz - racism is a big reason they dislike her and her peeps.
And I don't mean most of the fans - I mean the establishment.
In reply to Devin
No one can really dispute what she did on the court.
Who cares about those things when she's the GOAT? Only her HATAHS.
There you have a scum like DJT as president and adored by almost 90% of what makes up the GOP base. Explain that.
Serena is the greatest at her sport, period. She will be great as a business woman and people like you will continue to try to your dying day to take her down a peg.
Now, the 23-time Grand Slam winner is seeking to expand her influence by investing in women of color. Williams told Adweek that she is looking to invest more in female entrepreneurs, who receive less than 2 percent of funds raised by venture capitalists, specifically focusing on promising Black businesswomen.
Serena Williams has spent her career dominating professional tennis, but also navigating the intrinsic racism of having a Black body in a traditionally white space.
Devin should read that article.
In reply to Casper
Everyone should read it - Devin does acknowledge her greatness even as he attempts to diminish it.
In reply to Devin
Two statements of fact:
Chrissy (the tennis player not the poster) dominated her era by winning more often than Serena. 9 times out of 10 when Chrissy stepped onto the court she won. She played 18 years of pro tennis and has more matches under her belt than Serena's 25 and going.
What johnny come latelies to tennis do not seem to understand is modern players have a far easier schedule than the players of yesteryear. Serena has the most slams in the open era. Fact. Serena has the lowest win percentage among her all time rivals. Fact. What does that tell you?
What is also interesting is she won half of her slams (12) at a time when you typically are called past your prime in female tennis - 29. She won 10 in her 30s. Did she do what none of her rivals did and get better with age? Or did she outlast her competition?
And Serena's behavior is not something Chrissy would normally condone. Ducked a drug test, stealing people husband, calling women bitches, blaming a girl who was raped for getting raped. Yet she stay mad that Sloane did what many champions do - feel they are the best.
Edit:
Kareem and Karl have more points than Jordan.
Both played more seasons.
If Serena played 18 seasons of tennis would she have the most slams?
In reply to nick2020
Solid post. Can't argue with anything there.
In reply to Chrissy
And that is that. The blind could see that.
In reply to nick2020
If Federer stopped playing tennis at the age Bjorg (initially) did, would he have won as many Grand Slams as Borg did?
If ifs and buts were candies and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.
Talk about simplistic eh! Longevity IS indeed part of one's greatness! Compute that.
In reply to Casper
Why would he want to read anything like that? Blacks are inferior in every aspect, and so the story must go on.
BTW:
Link
In reply to nick2020
What does all of that have to do with Serenas greatest as a tennis player?
Does any of this make Chris Evert any less a great player?
Wunna does talk a lotta shite.
As I said before, your kind would do and say anything to knock Serena off her rightly deserved pedestal
In reply to JahJah & Casper

Chrissy hates on Sloane for something as trivial as that. Yet Serena...
In reply to JahJah
Again:
Most points all time:
1. Kareem
2. Karl
Yet no one considers them better scorers than Jordan.
Most rushing yards all time:
1. Emmitt
2. Walter
3. Barry
11. Jim Brown
Serena is the queen of longevity and props for that. But the major reason why people say she is the greatest is her slam total. She had 7 more years of chances at them.
In reply to Chrissy
Venus is Serena's black sister.
Venus was once the highest paid athlete in North America.
Venus was far less criticized than her sister.
Maybe people don't like Serena because she is not likeable. Because she is foul mouthed. Because she behaves badly.
Venus is classy.
Serena? Just look at the Osaka final.
Edit:
Agreed. Some people hate her because she is black. Some people hate her because she is successful. And some people hate her because of everything you saw in the Osaka final.
But just how they hate her because she is black is probably the same reason why you champion her. And JahJah. On a side note breakfast at JahJah's house must be interesting. "Down with whitey! Not you honey. You cool."
In reply to nick2020
So if Hingis had 10 more years she'd have the most slams? Oh, Evert was going to win 10 more slams if she continued for 7 more years?
You're now reduced to talking about Kareem (who played alongside Magic) and Karl who never won a championship. These two men were parts of TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
George Weah will always be a greater footballer than the lucky sod who happened to be part of a World Cup winning squad, but sat on the bench the entire time.
Yes, that was an extreme and in no way meant to disrespect the great Kareem. One of the greatest of ALL TIME!
As for you bringing my household into this, you are indeed simplistic and stupid. You think because one demands equality, and reject White supremacy, it means that he or she hates White people? Do you listen to yourself, or re-read what you write?
Clue for you: There are White people who rejects White supremacy. Does that make them 'less White' or traitors?
FOH with your nonsense!
In reply to JahJah
Hilarious. Yeah it is okay for you to launch personal attacks at posters with kindergarten name alternations and be homophobic but don't mention your household.
Grow up Sonny.
In reply to nick2020
And some people hate her because of everything you saw in the Osaka final
And some people are using that as excuse to hide their real motivation.

THIS!
In reply to Chrissy
I was a big fan of Venus. She is classy.
You ever going to address how she said a girl was to blame for being raped and the men who raped her got too harsh a sentence?
Probably not.
In reply to black
True.
And some people excuse her behavior.
Also true.
In reply to nick2020
Dude, is reading comprehension something that escapes your grasp? Did I address your post as being a personal attack?
No I addressed it for what it was. A misguided piece of codswallop.
Now please to fact off, you jackass.
PS: Pathetic efforts to talk about mere picong on my part noted.
In reply to nick2020
Nothing you say has a damned thing to do with Serena Williams being the most decorated tennis player in the Open era.
You are the one scratching around like a yard fowl looking for reasons to diss her.
Please to KYS!
imusic this Giron young man is interesting fi real
Won the first set 6-4 and just served to go ahead 3-2 in the second
Nicely done Venus 6-4; 7-5 - McWho?
First set to Felix 7-5.
Nishioka won the second - great fight back going on here - back on serve. hehehehhe.
felix to serve 4-5.
Naomi won the 1st set 6-4 against Collins and is up a break in the second
from 1-5 to 5-5 - gwan Felix
Felix loses - was leading the tiebreaker but lost. He will win many slams.
Naomi 'dust out' Collins good and proper
In reply to nick2020
What is also interesting is she won half of her slams (12) at a time when you typically are called past your prime in female tennis - 29. She won 10 in her 30s. Did she do what none of her rivals did and get better with age? Or did she outlast her competition?
1. How does one outlast their competition? Not by being better for longer?
2. The longer one plays, de more opportunity there is for de younger generation of stars tuh knock yuh off de block. Right? So why hasn't that competition done so against Serena?
3. How old was Steffi when she won 23 slams in singles? How old was Martina when she won 23 slams in singles? How old was Hingis when she won 23 slams in singles? How old was Billie Jean King when she won 23 slams in singles?
In reply to Trinidave
Leff dem bro
Nicely done Venus 6-4; 6-4
In reply to Chrissy
After a little hiccup in the 1st. set, she came through.
I don't why this happens to Venus, but whenever she's serving for a set or even a match, from a commanding position, she often serves to lose her game. She has to put herself up against the wall for a second or third time before she comes through.
From now on it will become tougher for Venus, but if she continues to play a steady game she might surprise many people at 38 years of age.
Go Venus. Surprise us.
In reply to Casper
Naomi got another beating last night - just watched her match - tough loss.
Mugaruza getting beat like a stepchile by a Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu
