WALSH CITED AS GREATEST ACT OF SPORTSMANSHIP
In reply to Emir
Ask Kemo Paul what he thinks about that act of kindness
In reply to Raggs
Look, as Bish saidm, he was within his rights do what he did.
The Walsh sportsmanship was different though.
In reply to Raggs
No need to. The records have the answer. Walsh's team lost that match. Keemo's team won. West Indians remember Keemo's act with a smile, but they don't even want to remember Walsh's.
In reply to Emir
I think Walsh's act in Jamaica when he publicly supported Lara who had deposed him as skipper
that spoke volumes of the type of man he is
Had to interview him once and he was a great guy very humble beautiful human being
I saw that live it memory serves me right. It was a great moment for cricket, Ive never forgotten it, nor has my respect for Walsh waned.
But me Id have run the sumbitch out and danced a cha cha cha in the doing of it...
In reply to Emir
Does make me feel good.
I used to watch Walsh as a youngster play on the 'sand lot' off Red Hills Road (behind Dunrobin HS), and predicted then that he would become a great one making us all proud.
In reply to Drapsey
Did you watch Yagga bat there too??
//
In reply to Ewart
No, saw him play on another sand lot, Maxfield Park (that's where they later built the the German Engineering School). But that was after he had become world famous.
Was the incident investigated for potential spot fixing?
In reply to Khaga
No need to back then, that was way before the emergence of the ICON.
In reply to ponderiver
What about when he allowed Ikon Samuels to be banned for two years...when his only crime was stupiditY
In reply to Narper
Richie was the culprit there
Please enlighten me if I missed something!!??
In reply to Drapsey
who was the youngster, you or Walsh?
In reply to Khaga no Indians involved, no need.
In reply to ponderiver
which language limey
I'll run him out everyday of the week
Walshie is by far one of the best sporting personalities of WI cricket. A true ambassador of the game, a fair, fierce competitor, and at the same time a decent human being.
In reply to runout
I said it then and I say it now. Walsh gave away the match. The Pakistani was cheating. Why was he not observing the rules of the game? Note the Pakistani Government could afford to give him a medal for sportsmanship. They won the match. His sportsmanship cost the West Indies team. Some say it was also self preservation because if he had ran out the batsman that way, there would be a riot.
One may also recall when the WI was given winning against the Australian when Walsh bowled the last ball of the last over to their last batsman...oh that fast bowler whose name I can't remember now and he was given out. One commentator said at the time that the umpire was brave to give him out. I have seen several replays of that last ball and I don't see where the ball touched the bat.
HAVING SAID ALL OF THE ABOVE, WALSH HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE A GENTLEMAN AND SPORTSMAN OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.
The Pakistani was cheatingIn reply to jelfew
Agreed ....Run his rass out..rules say he should be within the crease on delivery...outside and u r fair game.
not unlike baseball when they try to steal a base.
