What is this all about?
It's a dangerous sign.
It's just not Cricket

India's cricket Militarism
In reply to Casper
It will be interesting to see how the ICC responds although on ereport on cricinfo said that the BCCI got permission from the ICC for the players to wear them.
The NFL does the same.
They did due diligence and got the all clear from the people who matters...
Nothing to see here!!
In reply to Devin
NFL's also contracted with the US Dept of Defense in this.
As ICC's a global body, it may be trickier to sanction teams for expressing particular support for a country's military. That said, I can't see FIBA, FIFA, IAAF ever encouraging something along the lines that ICC/BCCI have done.
It would be interesting though, if PCB took the suggestion of having the team wear something to bring attention to Kashmir issues.
Don't believe that that was militarism...that is solidarity.
Why do the players dress up in pink for Jane McGrath's charity?
this honestly is one of those ugly point of cricket
how the icc could okay this, well its not too hard to believe, its the BCCI the ICC wont say no
the indian cricket team has shown that they are willing to remove comradery in favor of nationalism, and they should be lambasted for it. How could you think that military camo hats are showing support for the victims of the attack, i just dont see the connection.
shame on the indian team
In reply to conman
You do realize that the military was targeted in this attack.
India will do what is best for them.
In reply to runout
what does that have to do with the cricket team?
India have lost 40 Army personnel to a terrorist act and I would never condone terrorism for any reason, but the way India is behaving is well OTT,what the cricketers did was foolish and ICC should take actions. If Indians are so upset about this act,why don't they show some feelings about their treatment of the "lower castes".These people are murdered and beaten daily and the authorities turn a blind eye.Just recently petrol was poured over an untouchable and set on fire, burned to cinders, not a finger was pointed at the criminal.Bringing politics into a game is stupid.
In reply to conman
The cricket team, and BCCI, after obtaining the clearance from ICC, engaged in a fund raising effort and a show of solidarity in the terrorist attack involving a terrorist group domiciled in Pakistan.
PCB is making much of this. No other board voiced any concern. Begs the question, why? Ah, who is politicizing this?????
Yeah, allyuh talk nah!

I am glad you are highlighting this. I can tell you with out question the majority of Indians are embarrassed and do not support the BJP and Shiv Sena atrocious response to the entire situation.
The elections makes people do dumb things.
What was particularly bad about wearing military caps is this:
1. It happened on the same day of International Women's Day- tens of millions of Indian women are fighting to end their country inherent discrimination of women and the injustice of the caste system. The Indian team let down these tens of millions of people. Instead of wearing these gun battle caps, they could have wear pink caps to show their humanity.
2. A small group of affluent right wingers wants to copy Western behavior when terrorist activities- The typical go in TV crying, marketing lines etc.
3. The Indian cricket team and top Indian players had an opportunity to break against their tradition by ignoring the poor and injustice. As the nations's most beloved institution, if Sachin, Kohli et all were to campaign against injustice, violence against women and poor Hindus and against the oppressive strain of the caste system, Indian will be transformed overnight.
They missed that opportunity .
Australia better be careful in the next match they might come out with something
more lethal.

Suppose Pakistani players do the same, will you support it?
In reply to positiveg
Of course I will support Pakistan in their demonstration of national unity
Why should I dictate how any team supports their countrymen in their time of disaster?
This is much to do about nothing. And some folks Making tangential posts about which cause a team or players should support is being flippantly ignorant or cunningly deceptive in masking social injustices with extremist violence. Caste and poverty is prevalent in every corner of this world. It may be shrouded in different terminologies. What is not commonplace is to have a neighboring country harboring terrorists and having them kill your soldiers, and then complain that you are expressing support incorrectly by raising funds and demonstrating solidarity.
In reply to runout
Ok fair enough.
But what do you think about the BCCI asking for the ICC to ban Pakistan Cricket from the World Cup
In reply to positiveg
Excessive....unless the Pakistani team us suspect.
In reply to positiveg
Simple. BCCI is wrong. No need to sanction Team Pakistan.
Pakistan cricketers have always been great ambassadors of cricket, and they are truly one of the shining stars in the New Pakistan.
Why raise funds (thru cricket) for the Caribbean territories when they are hit by Hurricanes when people continue to live there knowing those are Hurricane prone..
