Capitalism operates on the premise that anyone can become successful with hard work and dedication, but the fact remains that most people in America or anywhere, will only achieve low to middle income, status.
These same people are seeing billionaires popping up everywhere. Some, are becoming super rich, while most people are struggling.
Unless, this trend of some, having more than they can spend, while most are struggling, people are going to become less satisfied with the status quo.

Has capitalism been too successful (for some) for its own good?
In reply to black
Ask yourself this Bro: can you create or generate capital (wealth) without labour?
That's not capitalism. That's Murican pipe dream propaganda.
The most basic definition of capitalism is an economic system which allows for the operation and control of private or corporate ownership of capital without state or government intervention and control and for profit.
In reply to black
For a minute there i thought you were making an analogous point, as in..capitalism is to financial success as communism is to freedom.
But alas grammar escapes you.
Also...
Was someone giving away free commas?
In reply to SnoopDog
I am all for capitalism but you also have to look at the reason why people like AOC are gaining traction.
There has to be ways of correcting wage gaps, whether, it's wage increases (voluntary) or Government intervention.
In reply to black

When you have corporations like Amazon raking in $22 billion in profits and paying $0 in taxes you'll understand why there is an ever widening income inequality in Murica.
In reply to SnoopDog
You know how that goes. The wealthy are equipped to take advantage of tax avoidance schemes, etc. The not-so-well-off don't have that access (or knowledge).
In reply to SnoopDog

True, but that does not fix the problem. The problem is, wages are not keeping up with inflation. Minimum wage earners are probably making $8.00 less (hourly) than they need to make to keep up with inflation.

In reply to black
I think you're very naive about crony (corporate) capitalism and how it has infected and infested the entire political and economic system in Murica.
Wages are only a symptom of the larger problem: income and social inequality. This ever widening social and income inequality is a result of decades of de-regulation of markets, anti-labour and union animus, and massive corporate welfare vis taxation policies and legislation.
Ask yourself why some billionaires like Warren Buffett are imploring politicians to tax the wealthy? They see that this current system which is creating this ever growing and ever widening inequality is ultimately unsustainable.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
What's the value of their labour relative to the profits of the company?
In reply to RemainsUnknown
15 to 17.

It's the only relevant argument in this context.

I agree, it is a big problem but it's not the total solution. People are going to be super wealthy, regardless. Workers need to have a better standard of living and the Government would not (and should not) have to subsidize them.

Guys read this article:
How Capitalism Made Americans Poor, and Socialism Made Europeans Rich
A brilliant article.
In reply to black
But last holiday season... I wanted to get some exercise in and since I didn't want to go running outside... (too frigid and therefore, uncomfortable) I decided that going to the Gym would be a good alternative.
Then, I thought, why pay to go to the Gym when I can get paid to exercise if I apply and go "work" in the evenings for one of Amazon, Fedex, or UPS? I mean, it's holiday time and they can use the extra hands since they are usually overwhelmed with packages and Christmas gifts.
I decided to undertake the challenge, along with 3 of my other co-workers who also wanted to get some exercise and one, better yet... needed the 2nd job.
We went through the hiring process, background check, drug test, etc... I passed. No resume needed as this was not a job for a rocket scientist.
None of the other 3 co-workers got thru. for different reasons, can't work the shift, passport expired, etc... anyway...
my point is... it was extremely simple to get hired as long as you don't have any demons in your past and don't do illegal drugs and pass the physical and mental test and you make exactly in the range what you $uggested, above.
I get it... not everyone, for whatever exceptional reason, can do it, but for the most part... most should... there is no excuse to stop pushing for something if you really want it.
You WILL always find an EXCUSE for something you don't really want and don't really have the DRIVE to do. SIMPLE.
In reply to black
So ask yourself why should anyone from the middle class pay taxes if government would not and should not subsidize them?
If $22 billion in profits Amazon doesn't have to pay a dime in taxes why should Joe Public have to pay as well?
Let's have a grand Libertarian utopia where the market is allowed to run free without interference and regulations and no one is taxed. Workers can withhold their labour until companies agree to pay them a commensurate wage relative to the profits their labour generates for the company. Roads will pave themselves, hospitals and schools will maintain themselves, bridges will build themselves, and the country will defend itself by re-introducing volunteers and conscription.

Good on you!!!
If everyone was like you, the world would be a better place but we are always going to have stragglers in society and we have to find ways to take care of them.
By the way, I have worked 2 jobs before but I'm too tired now.
In reply to pelon
It goes back to the very simple question I asked at the very top of this thread: can you create or generate capital (wealth) without labour?
Americans have become so brainwashed with the idea of capital (wealth) as the ultimate indicator of success that they have completely ignored the value of their labour in creating and generating that capital (wealth). This whole argument of wages is hilarious especially coming from people who now view labour unions as parasitic or "un-American".
Thanks for that article as well. This piece is especially prescient.
In reply to black
Can you tell us which stragglers of society got $700 billion in taxer payers money in 2008/2009?
In reply to SnoopDog
Would that be Trump?
In reply to black
You know the answer. Why do so many Americans think that only the poor and middle class are recipients of government assistance?
The wealthy and super wealthy are the biggest welfare kings and queens. Always have been and always will be. Socialism for the rich!
In reply to SnoopDog

Look, Governments are always going to favor the rich, it's just the way the system is set-up. In the US, they have lobbyist working on behalf of the rich, while the poor keep getting ripped off.
In reply to black
I'm glad you finally understand this.
So please stop vilifying poor and middle class people (who pay their fair share of taxes, unlike Amazon) as "stragglers" even though they get less government assistance than the wealthy and super wealthy.
In reply to black
and they you answered your own question...

If everyone was like you, the world would be a better place but we are always going to have stragglers in society and we have to find ways to take care of them.
By the way, I have worked 2 jobs before but I'm too tired now. lol
So then what is the incentive to ever care about the poor and middle class?
What makes you think it will ever change?
This is where you all do not see life for what it is.
Communist and socialist Government are by design supposed to put the majority ahead of the minority in terms of ffocus.
Yet you all are always slow to admit that in a capitalist system the focus is on the minority who has the money!
You villify one and promote the other when in reality there are pros and cons to all and none result in the happiness of the majority.
Yet you all think this will change.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
$700 Billion was Bush/Paulson's initial blank cheque to Wall street.
The actual blank cheque after it was all said and done was $475 Billion.
And then you have idiots on Fox "News" asking "but...but..but how can the government pay for free tuition, or healthcare, or libraries, or roads, or bridges, or hospitals, or healthcare?!?!?!?!"
In reply to Ayenmol
Communism is a total failure, there aren't incentives to work hard.
Now, some socialism, if integrated right, can work in capitalistic societies.
In reply to black
Bro, did you even read the article posted by pelon?

black's posts are truly fascinating like that.
Start with a faulty premise.
When shown the premise is faulty continue the debate nonetheless.
Cmon black use google.

In reply to nick2020
Come on dude, who the fcuk is asking for text book definition? That's why I used the word, "premise".
In reply to black
But what Nick is saying (and I agree) is that your premise itself is faulty.
And a premise is usually based, even loosely, on a definition of the subject matter. Is it not?
In reply to SnoopDog
I was talking about the "intent".
In reply to black
Sorry Bro. You were talking about pie in the sky Murican propaganda.
Half the country should be filthy fucking rich if everyone was rewarded for hard work and dedication.
In reply to SnoopDog
prem·ise
/ˈpreməs/
noun
1.
LOGIC
a previous statement or proposition from which another is inferred or follows as a conclusion.
"if the premise is true, then the conclusion must be true"
In reply to black
But black honestly people cannot know what you mean unless you say what you mean.
If I tell look at my new "white" car and you go looking in the parking lot and cannot find it only for me to mean the exterior is black but the interior is white can you blame someone for not finding the car?
Second point that I have brought up before is your topic and premise do not make any sense whatsoever. The whole thing is incoherent and it makes one wonder if you understand the subject matter.
Has capitalism been to [sic] successful (for some) for its own good? - Nothing wrong with this statement.
Capitalism operates on the premise that anyone can become successful with hard work and dedication - Huh? Capitalism does not operate under that premise. You mean the "American Dream".
But so as not to be difficult we understand the point you are trying to put forward. Carry on.
The Super Rich: The Unjust New World of Global Capitalism

Well, you are fcuking retarded.
Did anyone else question the premise until you jumped in?
Stay off my threads!

Did anyone else question the premise until you jumped in?
Ummm...I did.
That's not capitalism. That's Murican pipe dream propaganda.

Yes, after he said something.
I did not say it was not a faulty premise.

Yes I do. I was wrong.
The history of the North Atlantic countries has always been about the wealthy elite using one system after another to exploit the poorer masses, and using them to enrich themselves.
Capitalism is just the latest of those exploitative systems.

black derives a sense of importance to posting threads on this platform. After all it is important to him so it must be important to everyone. He believes he is good at it and the proof is in the overwhelming responses he gets to his topics.
We are jealous of this and no amount of denial will convince black otherwise. Actually, explaining this whole thing likely strengthens his conviction.

My first post on this thread came at page 2. The reason why it made it to page 4 was in part because of my "disruptive" posts. Else this may have made it to page 3 at best. Also am I psychic that I know which of your posts would not go the distance?
You have created an alternate and fascinating bubble to live in. But I know this as you seem to derive an unnatural sense of importance posting here. Maybe your time posting riddles was like crack and you are hooked on the attention.
In reply to nick2020
I don't have time to respond to all your nonsense but the Manafort post was current news, it would be pretty obvious what you were trying to do.
And, you can tell if a thread is gaining traction by the speed in which it is moving.
In reply to black
Point taken on judging the speed of a thread.
As I am not a prolific post starter I wouldn't know those things.
If not for mine and nik's input this thread woulda been dead on the first page!
It was dead from the time pelon posted that link debunking your sheeple belief that capitalism is successful.
Of course you never read it or had anything of value to say about it...but you started the thread...tells you all you need to know about why you start threads!

You called me all sorts of names when i posted early the Lakers losing record...you called me a fool...gang up on me with Jah jah, said i was a fool, hater, basketball illiterate, it is early, the Lakers gonna be a 4 or 5 seed blah blah.
So now that i have been proven right instead of exorcising your demons you prefer to hate on me and attack me under pretense rather than be a man.
Too bad!
Better to just face your being wrong than hold a grudge.
Hate is not good for the soul.
Loony we have never had any conversation about Lebron or basketball. i have never ever discussed any sport on this MB outside of cricket not even tennis and i play tennis.
i will grant that you could have been mistaken. but then you developed a whole theme around something that did not occur to advance an argument about it.
you need to get help.
In reply to sudden
Maybe he had a dream about it or it's some sort of brainwashing technique.
Watch out, he is trying to convert you.
In reply to sudden
Really? So explain your hate for me then!
If i had not had anything to do with you why do you hate me?
In reply to Ayenmol

Good to see Black encouraging discussions again. Not good to see that Black still has some of the worst lead posts!
Capitalism is "successful" just like slavery - for a minority, but it never made promises to anyone, unlike ideologies such as socialism.
Lacking political objectives, however, is probably the reason for over production, depletion of essential resources and concerns about the long-term sustainability of capitalist economies. So, if by "too successful for its own good" you were alluding to long-term sustainability, the answer is probably "Yes, capitalism as currently practiced, is not sustainable in the long term."
In reply to Norm
I was alluding to the fact that socialism is becoming more popular in America. Capitalism has delivered, big time for some but it's also leaving some behind.
In reply to black
The system is broken and will never support it as constructed. Too many Americans are uninformed and gullible and that is a bad combination. Legislators are elected and drive policy. The person with big money donors has an unfair advantage getting a message to the voters. Elected officials are beholden to their donors.
Healthcare is broken. Everyone wants it but not everyone can afford it. The solution is always to fix the system but you need to educate the people first.
In reply to nick2020
the problem with educating people first is that these people dont want to learn so you must show them practically and even then there is a problem.
see how many wanted to get rid of ObamaCare but not the ACA
In reply to sudden
That depends on whether you consider propaganda education.
Lotsa folks need to emancipate themselves from mental slavery and judge each other by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin first.
In reply to Runs
Interesting...because right here on this board i see people siding with color of skin above content of charachter...some of your closest associates in fact!
Never once haave i seen you disagree.

In reply to pelon
you find so? Capitalism by its very nature does not have to make promises whilst promises for want of a better word is implicit in socialism.
i find the explanation by Norm a bit trite if not redundant
In reply to pelon
Disagree completely.
Well worded? Yes. Capitalism is an ideology. It does not speak for itself or exist outside the realm of it's proponents.
The entire premise of the thread is based on the belief in it's promise.
That is all i will say on this Political issue.
There are pros and cons to every form of Government, Governance and ideology that is used to lead mankind.
People are quick to point out the cons of that they oppose while touting the prose of whatever selfishly works for them.
Fact is though that there are benefactors and disenfranchised created in every one of these.
None results in 5he happiness of all it's citizens.
Quite frankly, if you want to dig deeper, none of these in and of themselves contribute directly to anyone's happiness!

Capitalism is exploitative.
Socialism distributive.
Neither effective for ALL, both with flaws yet the balance is a hybrid
#Saudi business man, Sheik Suleiman Al-Rahji has donated so much money, that he kicked himself out of the billionaires club. As of 2011, his wealth was estimated by Forbes to be $7.7 billion, making him the 120th richest person in the world.
Al-Rajhi is a billionaire who chose to become a poor man at his own will without having any cash or real estates or stocks that he owned earlier. He became penniless after transferring all his assets among his children and set aside the rest for charity.
Once an interviewer asked him, So Sheikh Suleiman, have you become a poor man again?
Yes. Now I own only my dresses. I distributed my wealth among my children and set aside a portion for endowment to run charity projects. As far as I am concerned, this situation was not a strange one. My financial condition reached zero point two times in my life, and therefore I have had the feeling and understanding (about poverty) well. But now the feeling is accompanied by happiness, relaxation and the peace of mind. The zero phase in life this time is purely because of my own decision and choice.
why did you choose this path?
All wealth belongs to Allah, and we are only those who are entrusted (by God) to take care of them. There were several reasons that prompted me to distribute the wealth and that resulted in performing this virtue. Most important among them is to foster brotherhood and love among my children and safeguard their harmonious relationship. This is more significant than any wealth in this life. I was also keen not to be instrumental in wasting the precious time of courts in case of any differences of opinion among them with regard to partition of inheritance. There are several examples that everybody could see when children entered in dispute over wealth and that led to the collapse of companies. Nation has lost many large companies and their wealth that we could have been saved if we tackled the matter in a right manner. Apart from this, every Muslim should work on some endowments that could benefit him in the life after death.

That is a wonderful thing to do and kudos to the sheik.
If every single billionaire did the same would that change the plight of the World still?
