HEADLINE: Cricket West Indies (CWI) is becoming a “Cameron-centric organization”-Skerritt

CaribbeanCricket.com 2019-03-13 07:52:41

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is becoming a “Cameron-centric organization” and less of a cricket-centric entity. That’s the view of Ricky Skerritt who is challenging Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron for the post of president of the governing body of cricket in the region.
In an address last night to a gathering of cricket administrators, stakeholders and fans at the Errol Barrow Centre For Creative Imagination, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Skerritt said he and his running mate Dr Kishore Shallow had prepared a ten-point plan they believed could become the guide for the pathway forward for West Indies cricket along with inputs from stakeholders across the region.
“I am sure that we can fine-tune this plan to even more simple language to ensure that the C in CWI actually stands for the word cricket. Sadly, it has been my experience that CWI is rapidly becoming more of a Cameron-centric organization and less of a cricket-centric organization. Now, what do we mean when we say that CWI is becoming Cameron-centric? This is not disrespect for Cameron. I am simply speaking the truth. In short, it means the needs and fancy of Cameron have become bigger and more important than our cricketers and various indicators have shown me that the politics of survival in the office of the president matters more to him at this time than our cricket.
“Other indicators tell me cricket matters less than the president entertaining and traveling. The performance of the elite teams matters only when they win, and the answer to losing a series is to fire the coaches no matter what are the financial implications,” Skerritt told the audience that included vice-president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Calvin Hope, Board members Timothy Boyce, E. Betty Lewis Browne and Ignatius Marshall, former president E.K. “Tony” Marshall, ex-Barbados captains Philo Wallace and Kirk Edwards, Steven Leslie, the director of cricket at the BCA and Edison James who served as Prime Minister of Dominica from 1995 to 2000.

Skerritt is about personality politics and not policy differences!

He expressly said that wasn't the case.

So I know you are being less than honest

and therefore that is true!

I am heartened that Caricom has changed its stance on the dissolution but instead the restructuring of the CWI.

Skerrit now can assert that current directors won't lose their posts in a new entity. Allay the fears of Cameron's servile

What's the basis for your statement?

POINT 2019-03-13 13:29:12

In this Forum , since 2003 I have stated that the first order of Business regarding West Indies Cricket
is a Complete Restructuring of ALL
Cricket Boards including the Worst
International Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth , aka the WICBC .

WE MUST EXCISE THE CANCER THAT HAS

PERMEATED WEST INDIES CRICKET . IF

WE INTEND BEING FULLY COMPETITIVE IN

THE INTERNATIONAL CRICKET ARENA THE

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS MUST BE A

TOTAL RESTRUCTURING OF CRICKET IN

THE REGION .

In essence WE simply cannot have a
New Structure , with the Same People
in ALL the Cricket Boards in the Region .

I AM OF THE OPINION THAT THEY ARE

TO STEEPED IN MASA PLANTATION

PHILOSOPHY . IN ESSENCE THEY BELIEVE

THAT THEY AND THEY ALONE KNOW WHAT

IS BEST FOR WEST INDIES CRICKET .

In this new Structure , PLAYERS
must be represented on ALL BOARDS .
Quite frankly the current Structure
has in essence brought a Gulf between those who govern and those
who Represent the Region in Cricket.

The current Structure which was inherited by those now in the governance of Cricket in the Region
inherited this Demarcation which was
started over 90 years ago is at the
Heart of Friction between Our Players & those who govern the game.

WE NEED TO BRIDGE THIS GULF SO THAT

THOSE WHO GOVERN AND THOSE WHO PLAY

ARE ON THE SAME FREAKING PAGE . WE

HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS MASSA

MENTALITY , THAT FOR YEARS HAS BEEN

AND IS AT THE HEART OF CRICKET IN

THE REGION .

While Skerritt, like any other Dottie, wants the WICB to become a Dottie-centric organization.

.... again.

Skerritt is about personality politics and not policy differences!

That is simply not true.

Mr Skerritt pointed out he felt too much money was being spent on the administrative side of West Indies cricket under the current Cameron regime.

He said if elected he would try to have more money spent on the technical side of West Indies cricket where he feels it is urgently needed.

Mr Skerritt even gave an example. He said CWI recently hired an ethics officer even though there is already an ethics committee.

He said that money could have been spent on a coaching officer instead.

camos 2019-03-13 16:10:21

In reply to Fivestar

so he is dancing around structural reforms, he is merely planning to tweak the system? so much or change!

Fivestar 2019-03-13 16:24:38

In reply to camos

so much for change!

It seems to me spending money on the people who are actually playing cricket rather than a bunch of well heeled, fat cat bureaucracts is a wise investment.

Who or what exactly is a coaching officer?

This really aint a complicated matter
but Some wish to make it complicated .
MY perspective is that there must be
a complete restructuring in the WICBC
and All The Regional Cricket Boards .

NOW SINCE IT IS KNOWN THAT YOU CANNOT

TEACH OLD DOGS NEW TRICKS , CURRENT

MEMBERS OF ALL CRICKET BOARDS

INCLUDING THE WICBC SHOULD ALL DEMIT

THEIR OFFICES .

Because they are very likely to stray from the New Structure and revert to the current Structure .

This is precisely why they must not
be considered for Offices .

LOOK THE WICBC HAS COMMISSIONED

SEVERAL REPORTS ,AND RECEIVED THOSE

REPORTS AND DID NOT DO ONE BLASTED

THING REGARDING IMPLEMENTING THE

RECOMMENDATIONS OF THOSE REPORTS .

So Why the Hell must WE believe that
they are going to change their Modus
Operandi , when for decades they have done not one blasted thing .

HELL THEY ALL MUST BE REMOVED !!!!!

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TEACH OLD DOGS

NEW TRICKS . IT WOULD BE VERY

UNLIKELY THAT THEY WOULD WOULD

ADHERE TO THE DICTATES OF A NEW

STRUCTURE .

Have you been beneath a rock?

In reply to Kay

Nobody at the forum asked Mr Skerritt what a coaching officer was or what an ethics officer was. So permit me to take a guess on the former. Mr Skerritt spoke about reviving cricket at the grass roots level through out the region, particularly in the schools. My guess is a coaching officer would develop cricket at the grass roots level.

jelfew 2019-03-15 20:57:38

Yes I was under a rock and crawled out and found the link to Skerritt/Shallow ten-point plan. I like the plan. Let's see how this is played out.

Bro! to think Skerritt is going to make meaningful change to CWI is deluding oneself, they are both trusted insiders that won't rock the board!

If Rocking or not Rocking the Board is the only focus...then...we wasting time ent?

I do not expect one iota to change...

For someone to be viable...the campaign really ought to have started 18 months ago ...

POINT 2019-03-15 22:50:15

In reply to InHindsight

I seriously doubt that Restructuring
the WICBC , AND HAVING THE SAME PEOPLE AT THE HELM , CAN EVER WORK .

Because THEY are too Set in their Ways .These are Persons who for decades
have done whatever they wanted , and
now Presto THEY are going to comply
with New Rules & Regulations .

Any One who believes this B.S also believes in the Tooth Fairy . Look
the Reason why for Decades the WICBC
has bluntly refused to implement the
Recommendations of the various Reports it Commissioned .

Quite frankly the Commissioning of
Reports by the WICBC were simply Machiavellian Tactics , designed to
allow the People in the WICBC to
carry on business as usual without any freaking changes in its Modus Operandi .

POINT 2019-03-15 23:05:19

In reply to camos

I agree with your perspective , it is simply changing One set of Jokers for another set of Jokers .

This is precisely why I firmly believe
that Restructuring Cricket in the Region cannot have those who for decades bluntly refused to make changes .

Leaving them in Place is giving them
opportunities to Sabotage the implementation of the New Structure;
Obviously that makes absolutely
no sense .

Look the Worst International Cricket
Board in the Commonwealth commissioned several Reports ;

HOW MANY SALIENT ISSUES IN THOSE

REPORTS WERE IMPLEMENTED BY THE

WICBC ?????

There is a big difference between
saying You are going to do something; and actually doing it .
