Pick your promising 11 of 2018/19 season
In reply to Spoilt101
Kavem Hodge or Montcin Hodge?

Montcin Hodge
In reply to Spoilt101
Here's the question though. At what age do you stop being "promising"? Montcin Hodge is 31, isn't he? Or does "promising" just mean "not been picked" for the test team yet? Is Montcin Hodge more promising than Blackwood?
Just asking before I post my XI tomorrow.
Brandon King for sure, agreed
In reply to mikesiva
Yes no international call up no test , odi or t20
In reply to Yamfoot
Yeah am impressed by King but really like what I am seeing from Anderson Philips this his first full season and he is showing a lot of control and maturity.
In reply to Spoilt101
Brandon King will play for The Windies for sure but what format may I ask.
In reply to Raggs
Test and odi.
If you put Hodge as promising then you could pick Carter with over 600 runs for the season.

Bro, you're not even close, check his stats below and edit, before they come after you.

De man add ODI and Four day runs together
302 - 2018 Super 50
351 - 2018/19 Super 50
689 - PCL
Dats certainly over 1100. Wat a fraud
Carter 689 @ 40.52
thats what i get for relying on CWI stats
CWI had him as 1100 runs on a Four Day REGIONAL page...I did not know they added the Super 50s scores....now on a Cricinfo REGIONAL Four day page i see 689
That Barbados can come 2nd in a tournament with only Carter avg 40.52 and Dowrich in 3 innings avg 58.00 and no other bat avg over 30 speaks volumes about the quality of this tournament.
Devon Smith at the top of the runs table again:
Smith Da Man Again
King is a proper batsman. So Tests and ODI.
But A team first.

Are those stats complete?
It seems the stats only go up to the previous round.
In reply to Yamfoot
I think the last match is missing because of the asterisk by the names from T&T and Jam.
Brandon king

The stats are complete now.
Before we look at the "promising" players, we have to note that they're still dominated by veterans who've been tried and rejected. This would be my overall team, promising or not.
Here's the final team of the tournament. I've set the bar at over 550 runs and an average of about 40 or more. Bowlers had to take at least 30 wickets and average under 25.
1) Montcin Hodge (Lee) 711 runs @ ave of 39.50
2) Devon Smith (Wind) 745 runs @ ave of 43.82
3) Jonathan Carter (Bdos) 689 runs @ ave of 40.52
4) Devon Thomas (Lee) 685 runs @ ave of 40.29
5) Brandon King (Jca) 630 runs @ ave of 48.46
6) Anthony Bramble (Guy) (wkpr) 580 runs @ ave of 52.72
7) Rahkeem Cornwall (Lee) 419 runs @ ave of 27.93 & 54 wkts @ ave of 17.68
Imran Khan (TT) 438 runs @ ave of 25.76 & 42 wkts @ ave of 22.47
9) Romario Shepherd (Guy) 315 runs @ ave of 24.23 & 37 wkts @ ave of 20.13
10) Veerasammy Permaul (Guy) 42 wkts @ ave of 21.33
11) Nikita Miller (Jca) 41 wkts @ ave of 15.68
Players just outside the team are Sunil Ambris, Jason Mohammed, Tage Chanderpaul, Chadwick Walton, Leon Johnson, Jermaine Blackwood, Kavem Hodge, Alzarri Joseph, Anderson Philip, Sheno Berridge, Josh Thomas, Raymon Reifer, Jerome Taylor, and Miguel Cummins.
I haven't considered any player who averaged less than 30 this season with the bat, or who scored less than 450 runs. I also haven't considered any bowler who averaged over 30 with the ball this season, or took less than 26 wickets. However, as well all know, stats only tell a part of the story. Batsmen and spinners get better from playing more matches, so stats are good for assessing them. However, genuine pace bowlers need to be picked when they're fast, and not necessarily with a lot of matches under their belt, so there's a different yardstick for them.
Make of this what you will....
So, based on that, who are my "promising" players? I've focussed solely on the PCL, so I'm only interested in players pushing for spots on the Test side alone. To that end, I've picked the players who've either played no Tests, or a maximum of six Test matches (I had to find a way to acknowledge Ambris!).
BATSMEN
1) Montcin Hodge (Lee, 31) 711 runs @ ave of 39.50
2) Tage Chanderpaul (Guy, 22) 542 runs @ ave of 33.87
3) Jonathan Carter (Bdos, 31) 689 runs @ ave of 40.52
4) Devon Thomas (Lee, 29) 685 runs @ ave of 40.29
5) Brandon King (Jca, 24) 630 runs @ ave of 48.46
6) Sunil Ambris (Wind, 25) 490 runs @ ave of 49
7) Jason Mohammed (TT, 32) 634 runs @ ave of 35.22
Anthony Bramble (Guy, 28 ) (wkpr) 580 runs @ ave of 52.72
IMHO, you need to average over 30 for the season before you can be considered "promising". That's why I haven't picked Jeremy Solozano, Kasey Carty or Alick Athanaze. If you can't outperform JaMo in the PCL, you haven't told the selectors that you deserve to be picked ahead of him. The following batsmen did all right, but nothing more than all right, IMHO:
Leon Johnson (Guy, 31) 480 runs @ ave of 32
Jermaine Blackwood (Jca, 27) 465 runs @ ave of 31
Chadwick Walton (Jca, 33) 453 runs @ ave of 32.35
SPINNERS
Again, I've only picked those who've either played no Tests, or a maximum of six Tests. Two of them can bat a bit.
1) Rahkeem Cornwall (Lee, 26) 419 runs @ ave of 27.93 & 54 wkts @ ave of 17.68
2) Imran Khan (TT, 34) 438 runs @ ave of 25.76 & 42 wkts @ ave of 22.47
3) Veerasammy Permaul (Guy, 29) 42 wkts @ ave of 21.33
4) Nikita Miller (Jca, 36) 41 wkts @ ave of 15.68
PACE AND SEAM
As discussed earlier, pace bowling is a different kettle of fish. We want to pick them up while they still have raw pace, and they might not be bowling sides out in the PCL. I don't think stats can help with that. However, the following pacers took lots of wickets this PCL:
1) Romario Shepherd (Guy, 24) 315 runs @ ave of 24.23 & 37 wkts @ ave of 20.13
2) Anderson Philip (TT. 22) 28 wkts @ ave of 24.57
3) Josh Taylor (Wind) 28 wkts @ ave of 27.35
4) Sheno Berridge (Lee, 28 ) 25 wkts @ ave of 23.76
And then there's that quietly unnoticed allrounder Kavem Hodge (Wind, 26) 481 runs @ ave of 26.72 & 30 wkts @ 26.43.
Feel free to tear this apart at will, but I believe an 'A' team (of which there will hopefully be one this summer!) should be drawn from these players.

Stats dont lie,
Its pathetic to think that we can even recognise a player who averaged mid/low 30s over a FC season and come to the conclusion that they did well, shows the sad state of our regional batsmen ..
In reply to mikesiva
And in my opinion, the player should be well under 30 to still be deemed "promising"
In reply to mikesiva
One thing I admire about you is that you look at performances in an objective way. People on this board tend to have a "drive-by" mentality and only think of their homeboys and have no clue how non home boys have performed. People are surprised that Guyana keeps winning but if you look at the stats and see 4 fast bowlers and a spinner have all taken 20 or more wickets all at less than 25 apiece and the contributions to the batting by all the fast bowlers, then you realize why. Of course when you have a wicketkeeper who averages over 50 with the bat that helps significantly.
Keep up the good work and keep them honest!!!!
