HOW DOES A GOV'T BECOME ILLEGAL? How is a government formed in the first place? Through an elections. At the last elections, a Coalition of parties, led by David Granger, were able to form a government because they won most of the votes at the elections, giving them more seats (33) than the opposition (32) in the National Assembly. The government can only continue in office if it has the authority to do so. On the night of December 21, that authority was removed. A majority of members of the house voted for their removal; the Speaker of the House and the High Court has established that the vote was valid and legal. However, Article 106 (7) of the constitution allows the President and the government to remain in place until new elections are held and a new president is sworn in. But the very constitution clearly says that the period by which they can remain in office is, not whenever they choose to, but exactly three months. Only a vote of the National Assembly can change that. There has been no move to the National Assembly to extend the deadline for elections and no court has so far put a pause on the effect of the No Confidence motion. If nothing happens by Thursday, the government then becomes illegal, in that, it has no authority or mandate to remain in office. It would then be assuming power unto itself, and hence the country could then be described as a dictatorship.

The current government says it is too incompetent to hold elections in 3 months, and therefore it should keep power until some unknown time.
Incredible logic, based on a new principle called Rule By Incompetence!
This way, the current government could hang on to power forever, just by claiming that it cannot hold elections. Guyana could make a killing off this novel idea, by patenting and selling the product!

In reply to Runs Super duper patriot! What if DAG was 25 years younger?! Discuss.
In reply to BeatDball
What is DAG?
In reply to Norm Who? David Arthur Granger!
Granger is ok, but his supporting cast is the same waste that Burnham indoctrinated about "party paramountcy" years ago. Why else would the newly elected party leader declare that she will give jobs only to PNC party members?
If she wasn't so darn stupid, Charandass might have put up with the PNC (Granger's party) a bit longer.
Anyway, get ready for PPP rule for the next 25 years.
In reply to Norm Normy, I look into my crystal ball & dont like what I see. Even granny & naany of Essequibo County are apprehensive...
In reply to BeatDball
The PPP is far from perfect, but they are much better than this current lot. The only thing that would stop the PPP would be a coalition of smart and morally strong youngsters.
They have not appeared yet tho.
Gecom says Nov will be earliest for elections, PPP says they do not agree with that.
Opposition Leader and General Secretary, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo wishes to make it clear, that the PPP/C will never accept the November 2019 date for the holding of elections as is being put forward by the three APNU+AFC nominated GECOM Commissioners and the unilaterally appointed Chairman.
In reply to BeatDball
Minister of Defence I would have put him to head in my Administration.
In reply to Runs Heheheheh. See what I mean.
In reply to Runs
So, hold a general strike or two.

I wonder what would of happened if the PPP had done this when they were in power.

Check your history.Like a typical American even events that took place in this century you are unaware of.
Hopefully other countries put pressure on the PNC to follow the constitution.

Is DT smart enough for you ?
GECOM office at Coldingen on the ECD is on fire
In reply to Runs Office of the Elections Commission...why dont they burn down that dutty looking building with its high concrete fence?! Real third world shoite. As a matter of fact, why dont they rebuild all important govt buildings in GT for a more modern, class & elegant look? I had a glimpse of the Supreme court & shook my head. Old brukity skites. The sign wasnt centered, but to one side all wooden & shoite. Anyway, hopefully, with the oil boom...all will come to fruition. Who vex, vex.
