ponderiver 2019-03-22 12:31:31

In reply to Ewart

The real crisis is that this opportunist continues to have a voice and influence in west indies cricket.

I saw Sammys plea on facebook it was cringe worthy he came across as an entitled twat

camos 2019-03-22 12:32:53

so what you guys think Beckles want?

Chrissy 2019-03-22 12:35:20

That was my seminar title back in 1988 - The Crisis in West Indies Cricket - hosted by Professor Norman Girvan.

Closing argument before the election.
Hope someone can post his ten point plan for CWI/WICB future.

Ewart 2019-03-22 12:36:30

In reply to camos

1. He wants the High Performance Centre restored.

2. He gave the impression he wanted a new approach... but at the end he said he wants a change in personality!

Ewart 2019-03-22 12:38:32

In reply to camos

No. Died a few years ago at age 72 following a fall during a hike in mountainous territory.

camos 2019-03-22 12:38:58

In reply to Ewart

but at the end he said he wants a change in personality!

thought so too, a new guy would be receptive to him, Cameron would say see you later!

lol

Not only personality, but governance.
He went over the Patterson report, to let the listener know, it is sitting somewhere, catching dust.

Ewart 2019-03-22 12:42:16

In reply to camos

He gave his ten points he would like to see.

Then he basically said current leadership (read Cameron) is not going that way and is instead extending quarrelling among stakeholders.

Girvan died after falling off a waterfall cliff in Dominica - he was alive for a few weeks but never conscious - a lovely human being.

camos 2019-03-22 12:43:03

In reply to openning

but he was a director since that report was presented, did he leave in protest of it not been adapted?

InHindsight 2019-03-22 12:43:29

Brilliant statement by professor Hilary Beckles.

Barbados I do acknowledge that academically you are the most advanced society in the region.

You are selling yourself and the entire Caribbean short if you will sacrifice the long term development and who we are as a people in the interest of personal gain.

It his shortsighted to think that the status quo will bring about meaningful change and replace us as a reckoning force in world cricket.

My call or the changing of the guard is because of the stubborn resistance to these facts. Being unawre that all along those who held the reigns of power have been well place to effect this change.

Nepotism had blinded us as well.

I plead with directors in the interest of WI cricket to make about turn and arrest this crisis.

Well said Dr Beckles
Do the right thing Barbados.
Do the right thing Julian Charles

Chris, you know better than most of us, Independent directors, only meet at board meetings, a few times a year.
Case in point, the Challenger.

InHindsight 2019-03-22 12:47:26

In reply to camos
You
So stop the dilli dalli.

This is about WI cricket. Cameron has done some good things but he refuses to implement or convinced fellow directors away from this piecemeal approach to cricket development.

InHindsight 2019-03-22 12:49:29

In reply to ponderiver

Do you even understand the issues and what needs to be done to fix them?

Chrissy 2019-03-22 13:05:52

In reply to openning

Where was he on the Lucky Report?

InHindsight 2019-03-22 13:13:15

Sammy was personal. I ain't.

big grin

camos 2019-03-22 15:09:35

Were you able to discuss West Indies cricket, any time with Beckles?

doublecentury 2019-03-22 19:06:09

In reply to camos

What tax payer resources?

Barbados government owes UWI $200 million ...they make students free and then dont.pay the fees.

Beckles got Sagicor to finance HPC....Cameron ran them off.

camos 2019-03-22 19:08:33

In reply to doublecentury

Beckles is at Mona ,I think the financing for that is Ja gov.

doublecentury 2019-03-22 19:53:47

In reply to camos

Well he is vice chancellor , so head of all three campuses...but he was cave hill and built the three Ws ground at cave hill and put the HPC in Barbados. But I was asking about your comment that he uses taxpayer funds for personal use. That would surprise me greatly.

tc1 2019-03-22 19:59:04

In reply to doublecentury

Poor Camos, trying to justify voting for Dave.

Chrissy 2019-03-22 20:34:56

In reply to doublecentury

The Three Ws ground at Cave Hill preceded Beckles.

Poor Camos, trying to justify voting for Dave

for what reason, Dave has not done anything for Jamaica?

Slipfeeler 2019-03-22 21:10:40

In reply to positiveg

Beckles should know, he started the crisis.

doublecentury 2019-03-22 21:47:44

In reply to Chrissy

There was a cricket ground ...Beckles got Sagicor to upgrade it at significant cost to meet ICC first class standards...it is very hard to deny that sir Hilary beckles was the driving force in obtaining major sponsorships for the cricket ground, the HPC and even the business school.

ponderiver 2019-03-23 04:42:55

In reply to doublecentury

Beckles was on the board of Sagicor and Clico and we all know how that ended Yeah he good at securing sonsorship smh
