HEADLINE: Broadening cricket voting pool a necessity, says new president

Giving more members of the Caribbean cricket fraternity the opportunity to vote at annual general meetings of Cricket West Indies is among the plans outlined by new Cricket West Indies president Ricardo “Ricky” Skerritt in a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Kittitian Skerritt, who defeated Jamaican Whycliffe Cameron at the annual general meeting in St Andrew last Sunday, polled eight votes to Cameron's four. There were 12 votes available, two each to the six member territories of the Caribbean region — Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, the Leeward Islands, the Windward Islands, Barbados, and Jamaica.
Skerritt, and his running mate, new vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow, were supported in identical voting fashion by the Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, the Windward Islands, and Jamaica, while Barbados and Guyana felt that Cameron and his vice-presidential candidate Emmanuel Nantan were doing a good job after three terms in charge and should continue.
While he does not yet have a formula going forward to have a broader representation of balloting, Skerritt is adamant that the current system is not the best and is skewed toward the incumbent.
“These are highly technical but urgent matters. From what we have just been through, the campaign process, the lobbying process for votes and the actual implementation of the electoral process,it needs to be revitalised, renewed and improve.

I have no problem with what the incoming President stated . However
THE RESTRUCTURING OF ALL CRICKET
BOARDS INCLUDING THE WICBC IS ALSO
OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE .
In the WICBC , there are several Reports that can be used to obtain
a Good New Comprehensive Structure
for the WICBC . This must also be done .
There is no reason why the People in
the WICBC cannot :
" WALK & CHEW GUM AT THE SAME TIME".
There is absolutely no reason why these two very important Changes cannot be done simultaneously .

I love it.
That should give the Windwards Islands voters from at least Dominica, St Lucia, Grenada, St Vincent; Leewards from Antigua, St Kitts, etc. If they're each allowed 2 votes, then that at least would ensure that Mr Skerritt's tenure surpass the longevity of his immediate predecessor.

Ultimately it will come down to six groups, because the delegates from each group will all vote alike.
What would "broadening the voting pool" achieve anyway? Make it less likely for the likes of Dave to gain power? Dave gained and kept power by exploiting administrative weaknesses within the territorial boards, and in the relationship between the regional board and the territorial boards.
What Skerritt could do is weaken, or regulate, the administrative power the regional board has over the territorial boards. This would allow the territorial boards to express themselves more freely, without fear of retaliation from the regional board.
Also, the electoral process in the territorial boards should be more transparent, much more free of regional board interference, include as much public participation as possible and be subject to regulation by local laws in a clearly defined way.
Just "broadening the voting pool" will simply broaden the chaos and give more power to smaller groups who will be added by "broadening".

Or as directed by their current board president, as was the case under Dave, Sanasie, and others in territorial boards, or in the ICC.
